  1. I am posting this here because it has the potential to alter draft plans. A "former first round pick"?

That has AB's fingerprints all over it.

He has always played on the right side. If nothing else, he will provide quality, veteran back up depth to Dawand and Teller.

I think this could signal the end of the line for James Hudson as a Brown.

I'm no jeenyus, but we have met with a lot of O-linemen. Might be a clue to our intentions.

I hope you are right Reg. Wills blows and we have no depth at tackle.

The OT from Yale and the one from BYU could be within our reach. To me, this is the biggest remaining weakness on the team.

He’s an elite run defender and has been for a long time. So when you factor that into his evaluation, he’s a better than average 1st round pick. Better than average NFL starter. But not by some huge margin.

People have way overhated on him bc he wasn’t amazing. I don’t even wanna like him bc of how he F U’ed my Cleveland Browns out the door, but he is/was pretty damn good.

This is where I am at.

Refusing to go in the game at the other DE just because he didn't want to??????????

Last I checked, TEAMS win Super Bowl - not individual aging players. And if you ain't on board with that concept - GTFOOH. I have no use for you on my football team

    What a flipping entitled SOB.

There are plenty of us in the general public that would give certain body parts to possess the kind of athletic talent Jadaveon has. Too bad it is with a 10 cent brain.

  4. After the Michigan State victory, we sit at 16-12 with 3 regular season games to go.

    2/29   NEB

    3/03   _ICH

    3/10   at Rutgers.

Nebraska is ahead of us with a league record of 10-7, BUT...... they are 9-0 in league play in Lincoln, and a dreadful 1-7 on enemy floors.

_ich is the worst team in the B1G by a mile. 3-14 league record and included in that is a 1-8 road record.

At Rutgers to close the season could be a tough way to finish. Like us, they are 6-11 in league play. But they are 4-3 at home, and historically the RAC has not been kind to visiting Buckeye teams.

BUT...... just for the sake of this post; I say we find a way to sweep the remaining 3 games. If we do that, we probably land in the 11 seed slot in the BTT. That means a Wednesday game aginst the 14 seed. (_ich). If we win that, we would then have 20 wins on the season.

With 20 wins on the season - do you think the NIT extends an invitation? I say yes. I took a look at last year's bracket and approximately half the field had 19 or fewer wins. And we all know how well Buckeye Nation travels. That cannot hurt their chances.

    Thoughts?

  5. The dominoes are beginning to fall. As expected, Bill Belichick and the Patriots have parted company. What I did not expect so quickly was that Jerod Mayo is named as his replacement.

That also means that for Patriot All Pro LB Mike Vrabel will not be heading back to New England. This is who I thought the Patriots would land on.

I would not be surprised if due to our defense's success in 2023, another NFL team throws enough cash at Jim Schwartz that he leaves us for that opportunity. If that happens, I would be blowing up Mike Vrabel's phone with an offer.

Granted, we will be far from the only team making him an offer. And there also is the distinct possibility that he is long gone before we need a replacement DC. But, if the stars align properly - here is why I think Coach Vrabel would be a perfect fit on the North Coast.

    • We are no longer a extremely young team. We have very skilled, younger players - but our core players are now a "young veteran" team with a bunch of players on the cusp of superstardom. Right in Vrabel's wheelhouse.
    • If he comes here as the new DC - all he has to worry about is coaching defense. All the other issues that goes with being the top dog are Stefanski's deal.
    • Listening to Mike's pressers, it is clear has one vision for the game - WINNING. Same with Stefanski. He wants his charges to "engage in the fight" to get it done. Anything else? No bueno.
    • Stefanski, for all his success, is still a younger coach. Bringing Mike on board is a significant resource to tap into when things go awry. Vrabel has had success as a player, coach and head coach in high school at Walsh Jesuit, in college at Ohio State, and in the NFL at Tennessee. If Stefanski is all about winning and who cares who gets the credit - Mike would be a fantastic hire.
    • Lastly, I think Mike would be a great coach wherever he lands. But I think he is much better suited for the NFL game than the college game. The is alot of BS that goes with up and coming stars at the college level who think theirs doesn't stink. In the NFL, it is "Did you get the job done? Don't care why - did you get it done?" That's where I see Mike being happiest
  6. Yes I certainly would rather have DHop kicking for us on Saturday. Dude has been MONEY.

But Hornby's point is spot on - unless a kicker's hammy is 100% healed, there is  a grave chance for reinjury that puts you further back than where you started from.

Injuries bite the big one - but they are what they are.

But on that note, in light of this news - AB was able to successfully pivot to Riley Patterson. So far so good. Andrew is kinda good at GM'ing.

Other than a few guys getting more reps than usual, this game is basically a preseason game.

And given the fact that Cincy will be playing their starters, I fully expect to lose by 2+ scores.

And it doesn't matter. This is a bye week for a team that is battered and bruised and hasn't had a bye since week 5.

Plus the starters get 2 plus weeks off from game action. That should go quite a ways to healing bodies.

Great point Reg - I forgot the team has not had a bye in 14 weeks. Thanks, NFL.....

  8. This is a big opportunity for Ced Tillman to show he belongs at the NFL level.

He certainly has flashed his ability at times this season.  Those mostly have been on quick slants over the middle

That is good, but it certainly not enough. He needs to transition from flash ability to showing consistent production.

I know he has had issues with drops. And on a few of Flacco's recent picks, it certainly looked like Ced either ran the wrong route or didn't fight through to the finish of a route. Two stats back this up .

Ced's contested catch win rate is 59%, and as MKC reports the QBR when Ced is targeted is just 25.1 - Yikes

Like Stef said "There are no more rookies any more". Time to produce.

  9. Njoku had 134 yards receiving last night. That puts him at 882 yards for the season - or 118 shy of the 1000 yard mark. With one game to go, that mark is certainly attainable.

Having (2) 1000 yard receivers on a team that is on their 4th quarterback of the season would be amazing. But the pregnant question has to be "With the playoffs clinched, is it smart?"

As much as that would be very cool to do - there is NO WAY I left 85 see the turf at Paul Brown Stadium in ten days. If you want to be the responsible adult, then be the responsible adult. We need to look big picture and long term. Njoku is far too important to this offense.

Put him in bubble wrap right next to 15.

  10. I just went behind enemy lines and looked at the Jets gameday thread.

    Two themes very clear

1 - They are resigned to the fact that their QB will have a long night. They are almost ready to mail it in that their OL will struggle mightily against our pass rush. I know the Texans (miles ahead of the Jets and in the playoff hunt) scored 22 on us, but.....

All 22 were against defensive backups and special teams fiascos. Starters pitched a shut out.

2 - They are ARROGANTLY sticking to their guns re: Flacco. They are glad he is seeing success here (cough, cough) but they are just as glad he is not in New York because he didn't help them.

Translation? Robert Saleh and staff are idiots if they can't get talent out of Joe with Garrett Wilson as a stud WR.

    Gonna be a fun night.

    Round two WR

    Round Three TE

    Round Four RB

    Respectfully disagree.

LT is at the top of my board.

I think Jed has played his last down at left tackle. He is tradable - only having a $14M contract for 2024.

The only way I see Jed on this roster next year is if they flip flop tackles and put Dawand at LT.

NOT my ideal situation. I would prefer to draft a LT (Patrick Paul of Houston), end the James Hudson experiment and make Jed your swing tackle.

  12. Special teams gets a double down.

Because they couldn't do their jobs and cover a kickoff, Hopkins got injured trying to make a tackle.

And because Hopkins was out, Corey B was injured on the ensuing kickoff.

And because the are incompetent, they don't cover an onside kick - keeping an inferior team in a game they never should have been in.

    Beautiful just fricking beautiful....

Now get off my football team.

  13. Buffalo beating the Chargers last night means the Browns cannot clinch today.

However, if we handle our business and beat the Texans, our playoff probability increases to 99% - with the putrid Jets coming to town on Thursday.

People need to abandon the thought that this offense is going to be run oriented

Good point. With the current banged up state of the offensive line, asking them to hold extended blocks is silly. So, to be successful, ball needs to come out quickly out of Flacco's hands.

  15. I was wondering where we may have an advantage on Sunday.

I asked myself, "Who is our most consistent offensive weapon? "

Flacco has risen Njoku up to star status. So I looked at the stats of how Houston has fared against tight ends in their 14 games.

They have surrendered 72 catches for 806 yards and just 2 TDs. That works out to an average of 4.8 receptions per game. The yards per game is 53.7. Pretty pedestrian numbers.

But if you do a deeper dive - 41 of the 72 catches and 496 of the 806 yards came in just 4 games. That's an average of 10 plus catches a game and 124 yards a game.

Those four games were against ATL (Kyle Pitts) ARI (Greg Dortch and Trey McBride) JAX (Evan Engram) and NYJ (Jeremy Ruckert and Tyler Conklin).

Some of the better TEs in the league.

I think we can exploit the Texans here.
