  1. I heard a podcast today, The Ringer, and they were saying that Latham is universally seen as one of the potentially elite tackles - above Fuaga, Fautanu etc - by the league. And that there is a collective helmet scouting issue with fans - all of which have probably been burnt at some time by a Bama olineman drafted high! I think he goes to the Chargers after they trade down to 11 with Minn
  2. Yes. Wilson changes nothing for them. I think it’s highly likely they take Nix at 12.
  3. It really would be an awful situation for a raw QB - particularly when they don’t have a decent vet option so they would likely be rushed in and will have no draft assets and no money to build a team around the young QB. If they were sensible they’d totally rebuild and if they feel like they have to have a young QB now, they’d be better off trading back and taking Nix
  4. Why do you think that is? Just because he’s older? Seems like an easy guy to root for to me.
  5. While I agree with you - and I have Nix ahead of Penix for the same reasons and I agree that on paper, he fits what appears to be the scheme Getsy will run, I can see a world where AP wants a more run heavy, play action, vertical game. And in that world, I can see them taking Penix and bringing in some speed weapons around him. I also wouldn’t be totally against it either if that’s what they decide to do. The Getsy fit and current offensive personnel would concern me, but Penix’s arm and temperament would excite me. They would have to do some very creative things in the draft (RT at 13, double dip for speedy WRs, possibly a RB) and continue to invest in offense in post June FA in order to make me feel confident about it having a chance of working though.
  6. Interesting way to look at it. If the trade from 44 to early twenties to grab your QB cost you let’s just say your 3rd and a high-ish pick next year. Even going by the picks this year is Fuaga and Penix/Nix that much better than say - Penix/Nix, Suamataia and Khyree Jackson or any combination of 2nd and 3rd round combos? Plus the other picks you have to throw in? Im not too sure…
  7. Similar - but perhaps slightly better signing than Van Roten last season. Fairly steady vet on the decline but with enough to hold the fort depending on what happens in the draft. Id expect a few of these to begin trickling in…
  8. I do this exact position sequence a lot with mock drafts. I like the depth at CB and how the skill positions line up later too.
  9. Probably feel the same. And equally, not my first choice to trade up for or QB to take at the cost it would take - but it would give me some confidence if Telesco went all in on him, given his naturally conservative disposition. And like I’ve said all off season - what if the QB you choose if you do select one early does reach his potential and he is a franchise QB. I have massive doubts with Daniels - but you just don’t know and I feel quite ready for a gamble one way or another…
  10. I would like to think that if you remove the bravado that online posting seems to bring out in people, surely no one in their right mind would be totally confident that one QB will be a guaranteed hit and another a guaranteed bust. While we might all imagine we are better at GMimg than actual GMs, the sheer quantity of bad QB draft picks and bad projections from pundits and fans is evidence enough that it is one of the most difficult decisions to get right in, well, pretty much any aspect of any profession known to man.
  11. Chargers are trading out. Harbaugh doesn’t value WRs that high. I’m pretty convinced they’ll move down
  12. Having re looked at mine - I’ve already changed my mind. I should have waited!
  13. https://youtu.be/Y5VHHXcorWA?si=yrl6Mx4e_N4mWCKJ This is the QB school - JT O’Sullivan - who many on here rate, just to offer a different perspective. He ranks them: 1. Williams 2. Daniels 3. McCarthy 4. Maye 5. Penix 6. Nix Sounds very high on Penix - just has him lower due to the injury concern. There really is such a range of opinion. I’m still very much on the fence in terms of picking any of the top 6 early. With so much difference of opinion amongst even the most respected pundits - statistically and historic probability wise, there’s as much chance that the 5th/6th guy becomes a franchise QB as the 3rd/4th Whether you personally prefer Daniels over Maye or JJ over both or Nix over Penix - there’s as many people with the opposite view. And given my comfort in admitting that I really don’t know how good these guys are actually going to be - if we did take any of the top 6 early, I think I’d find enough comfort in knowing how much of a crapshoot it is and that, even if it wasn’t ‘my guy’ I’d be happy that we were willing to gamble…
  14. I’m an NFLN guy. Love Rich Eisen. Like @Darbsk - being over the pond, it’s pretty late. I usually record the 1st round to watch the next day - as I’m at work and try and stay up on Friday for at least the 2nd round drinking and eating myself awake! It really pisses me off that it’s on a Thursday. Absolutely daft for it not to be Fri, Sat, Sun. Makes no sense at all!
  15. I’m not sure it would be that level! No one was talking about Ferrel or Leatherwood being picked anywhere near where we took them. There are as many pundits who believe Penix is being under rather than overvalued and that he should be picked early in the draft and ahead of the likes of McCarthy. And there’s plenty of mocks that have him going 13 - even Daniel Jeremiah’s. No one was mocking those goons to us as no-one in their right mind thought it was possible for a franchise to take them that high. That’s not the case with Penix. Plus, it’s the nature of the QB position and gamble you take. Because, what if? What if your roll of the dice pays off…
  16. I’d guess he’ll end up coming back after dust settles post draft and after comp formula deadline.
  17. Love this. Would pretty much be my ideal 1, 2, 3 - both player and position wise. And the positions later on too.
  18. There was a great bit in a recent ‘Tape don’t lie’ vid where they discuss Telesco and how the Josh Jacobs decision showed you then and there that he is making these personnel decisions. That had AP had a say on JJ, he would’ve signed him up no matter what. It’s been a while that we’ve had a GM making the call and I too am really interested to see what he does at QB and how he navigates the draft around that need. You get a sense that he has an appreciation of value - at least early in the draft where he has rarely seemed to reach - and of other team’s intentions.
  19. He seemed to get some flack recently for comments he made about southern college fans with some people twisting it that it showed he didn’t care enough about the game. All totally overblown. I agree that he seems smart, measured and well balanced. I think that could bode well for him in the pros. That and his experience which should help him not get too high or too low. Still my favourite realistic option. I think he could carve out a really solid career.
  20. Plus, it’s a couple of weeks or so away from the comp picks for next draft being set. I’m happy that we have a more conservative GM, who recognises that there is as many vets available after the draft than just before it - and with the added bonus of getting comp picks by being patient. About time imo
  21. Good. I was interested to see him more after a promising preseason. I think he may have gotten a couple of games filling in. Still young. Depth at least.
  22. Plus, whilst a ‘lockdown’, no.1 CB is of course desirable, I’m not sure it is absolutely necessary. And I would argue even less so on our current defense. We have the dline, solid LBs and a reliable pair of safeties. I think that Hobbs and Jones give us a pair of playmakers and they, along with Bennett would benefit just as much, if not more from a vet presence as much as a highly picked rookie. I won’t complain too much if they do get Mitchell or Arnold as they look like top prospects, but I wouldn’t now have it as as high a priority…
  23. With this logic - are you sure you would risk picking a Fuaga or other position at 13 in the hope you can move back into the first for Nix? Everything would have to fall exactly right for that scenario to unfold. I’ve been round and round with this all off season and it’s why I am pretty firmly in favour of picking whichever of the QBs is there at 13. Be that Nix or Penix. It seems like a fairly unique draft with the quantity of first round(ish) graded QBs. It is rare that the 5th or 6th rated player in the position has the potential that these guys do imo. They seem like significantly better prospects than the Malik Willis, Hendon Hooker, Jake Haener’s of the world where you had to close your eyes tight to see any potential. These guys are more on par with Rattler and Pratt etc. arguably the 4th tier guys - not the 2nd tier in other drafts… Plus, a rookie QB would be going into a pretty decent situation with the QB room taking the pressure off and some high quality weapons. Just feels like an ideal time to take a punt..
  24. That would be my dream draft. Not sure I’d have the balls as a GM to not just take the QB at 13 though. You’d have to be really confident in your intel about other teams plans…
  25. I agree. I have Nix ahead of Penix, but have a feeling Den will go Nix just ahead of us. I am confident enough that we can get a CB and oline with the other earlier round picks plus the post draft FA, which is usually good for a few solid vets. That way we can just take our guy without fear of losing out
