Oden was a defensive assistant for HOU when Saleh was an intern there. Maybe Oden is one of Saleh's guys and doesn't have as close of a relationship with Shanahan.

We couldn't sign Rosen to a future/reserve contract. He was on the 53-man roster, not the PS. Rosen is an ERFA according to Spotrac, although Overthecap has him as a RFA.
-
Niners also signed Tyler Gaffney to the PS. He was a decent prospect coming out of Stanford, but was consistently injured through his few years in the NFL. I don't think he ever even played a game. He then retired to play baseball (he was a 24th round pick of Pittsburgh) for a couple years and is now trying to make an NFL comeback. He probably won't amount to anything, but I'm rooting for him.

This is likely a career-ender for Mullens. If he was a good starting QB, then he would likely be able to bounce back from it in 2022. But who is going to want to take a chance on a below-average to average backup recovering from TJ surgery? Mullens was a borderline NFL player before the injury. Can't imagine he'll be worthy of a roster spot after this. -

His book was actually pretty lame IMO. He had very few stories in it that were not previously written about. If you are looking for brand new insights, you will probably be disappointed. If you want a nice trip down memory lane of the Harbaugh era, then the book is probably worth reading. -
Week 13 GDT - Buffalo Bills at San Francisco 49ers

Tied teams are ranked via strength of schedule with the weakest SOS picking first, second weakest SOS picking next, etc. -

Fair enough, but the safeties are much more interchangeable now than they have been in the past. Then again, who knows what our defense will look like next year or who our DC will even be. Moore might be a better fit if the new DC (if Saleh gets a HC position) prefers two high safeties. I just really prefer safeties who are great communicators and Moore has seemed to struggle mightily with that aspect of the game so far. Here's to hoping he improves and we can focus resources elsewhere. ✌️ -
Week 13 GDT - Buffalo Bills at San Francisco 49ers

Of course they are different players. They do essentially play the same role though (or they are at least asked to play essentially the same role), they just do it differently because they have varying strengths and weaknesses. And I clearly never said they are the only two options. Instead, I asked you for your preference of the two players. It is actually an extremely simple question. Would you rather have Tartt back on the minimum (or near minimum) or would you rather just hand the reins to Moore? -

But you would still agree that Tartt > Moore right now though? Would you rather have Tartt start 10-12 games and Moore 4-6 games or have the inferior player start all 16 games? Or are you thinking that the communication would improve in the secondary if Moore just took over? I mean, Garoppolo can't stay healthy either. Would you rather sign Garoppolo for the minimum and have him start 8 games with Mullens starting the other 8 or would you rather just have Mullens start all 16? -

Buffalo is hard to dislike. I hope they win the SB (safely assuming that SF is out of it) -

Yeah, Moore is having a terrible game. I am not convinced he is a future starter for us. I hope we resign Tartt this offseason -

Moore really needs to improve his open field tackling. -

Yeah, I've just never been a fan of keeping a 3rd QB on the 53 unless it is a young guy you don't want to lose. Especially since you can keep a handful of vets on the PS now. I wouldn't mind him being the PS QB, but he doesn't deserve an active roster spot IMO -

Mullens sux. He doesn't belong in the NFL. Maybe if a team kept a 3rd QB. He has little potential to improve though, so it probably isn't worth keeping him as a developmental 3rd QB. -
Does Garoppolo have trade value? I don't know what to think. Some writers around the web seem to think so, others disagree. Some NE fans have proposed sending a 2nd rounder for him. Some people think nobody would take on his contract. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts, fellas.

I'm sure he hates the idea of starting a rookie QB right away, but why would he hate the idea of handpicking and grooming someone who could excel in his system? He liked Beathard enough to draft him on day 2. If a QB is available at our pick and Shanahan thinks he could be a star, do you still think Shanahan wouldn't draft him because he "hates rookie QBs"? -

Maybe a not-so-crazy idea: Let Shanahan pick his QB of the future in the draft (assuming that QB exists and is available when we pick) and sign Alex Smith (likely to be released by WAS) to compete with Mullins to be a stop-gap starter. Smith could probably learn the playbook quickly and has a quick release. -

He actually got called up in December because other teams were sniffing around (according to Barrows). But then he was cut before training camp, which is weird. SF didn't want to lose him to another team, but then willing cut him loose, only to bring him back again. He is the offensive Dontae Johnson. -
