  1. Id prefer Baker or Thrash over several of the guys mentioned higher. The McCaffrey kid is nice, McCorley is decent in his way, the Florida kid is nice but I think is getting pumped up higher than Id like when getting a draft value / sleeper.
  2. We seem to have the conversation almost every year. His fall wont be as bad as Tunsil or La'el Collins but when you are looking at apples that look very similar it gives you reason to set that big apple aside and keep picking other apples.
  3. I doubt that. Nobody hurt or anything, no reports of altercation. If there was any thought of taking him in the second though it makes that much less likely. It will depend on if teams had discipline concerns (eating, work ethic, play book learning, film study habits) or partying concerns, if they did this would reflect that and could put him on Do Not Draft lists or revisit later in the draft lists.
  4. The concern with Sweat for me is you are getting a limited snap player, that will likely never really give you more snaps, but a dwindling less at some point. Could he be an anomaly? Possibly, but unlikely. You might get two to three quality years out of him, maybe 1 or 2 good ones unless he does a 180 with conditioning. Im not trying to say he is anything bad or really judging him as lazy or anything just that if you had to guess, it would be that it goes that way. Risk vs reward obviously. I'd lean heavily to somebody that Id expect to be employed with the team potentially for a 2 contract term, rather than crossing my fingers to get through one. I prefer to look at the draft from and 8-10 year perspective when it comes to your 1st & 2nd round guys especially. I would liken Sweat a bit to the TE Washington. I was nowhere near the fan of him as pretty much everybody else, but even I thought the potential value at that late part of the 3rd was too good to pass up at a position that could use some improvement and depth overall. I do like Sweat's ability and snap to snap play a lot more than I liked Washington. If we get two great/quality picks in the 1st & 2nd, he might be a reason to move up into the early third.
  5. Legette has become my favorite fit for this team in this draft. I dont like how this draft has turned out thus far. I think we should come away with two perceived blue chip type prospects with our first two picks regardless of position. I would hope that one of those is Oline in the first unless its a blue chip corner like Mitchell. The second round is more flexible and I hope with my fingers crossed and breath held that Legette is there. After that its really just find players that are desirable for us. If there is a player we really want early third or even second consider moving those two third rounders. You come away from this draft with three players that you REALLY like, its a win. I would really like a draft of 1. Jackson Powers Johnson - C 2. Xavier Leggette - WR 3. Mike Sanristil - NCB or perhaps Max Melton -CB or a coupl other options. Heres my thoughts on the OT's in this class and our teams current situation. There are more high level potentials in this class than just about any class I can think of. Howeva, many of them are not close to finished ready products that will take over and dominate on a pro field day 1 or year 1. They will need work and time and some will have their struggles in areas. Id be fine with the Glover kid as a project, hes probably not much less than many of the blue chips that are bandied about. A Mims has started 8 games in college and hes gonna be our Day 1 starter ? He has all the issues B Jones has head and hands reaching with less experience on how to deal with the shortcomings. I don't crumble at the thought of Dan Moore or some combination of guys like Anderson or Cook at RT or LT if need be. This team has lived without elite level tackles for the last 50 years. Max Starks and Marvel Smith, Al Villanueva & Marcus Gilbert. John Jackson & Leon Searcy. Thats about the best we could offer. Some of the guys we are mentioning as third and later round prospect guys would probably be late 1st mid to early 2nd round mentions in most other classes. One guy that I have seen get beaten more than anybody (except maybe the Michigan RT) with regularity is the Rosegarten kid from UW. Seems to be a media favorite, I havent studied him closely because every game Ive watched hes getting blown by on just about every play so I dont see the inspiration to even be concerned with little time to view other prospects. If we went OT in this 1st Id preferably like to pair him up with some kind of potential Center prospect in the 2nd, even projection guys like Haynes as we could use a guard waiting in the wings as well. There are several 3rd round type WR and nickel corners that I like and should be there in some combination.
  6. Sweat or Fiske , P. Wilson is best player there but the health and next years great ILB class make that not very wise. Have a feeling R Wilson has Tomlins interest even though not as ideal as other guys for us. The trade looked like a good idea but not loving the fallout at this point.
  7. Was never really a fan of Peat. At the moment, all I can think of is rhymes with beat. He primarily played OG in the league during his career and for a reason. He's also had a lot of injury issues.
  8. That guy is just collecting paychecks anymore. Gaming the system on his old reputation if anything. He's missed more games than hes played over the last 4 years . A lot more, and in many of the games he has actually played hes missed a good deal of snaps.
  9. I voted JPJ but the trade is very intriguing. I just think solidifying that center spot for a decade to come with a player that is versatile capable if needed is highly desirable. Not to mention there are really only a few centers in the draft that are ready to step in and hold up this year. There are some good development guys though but Day 1 starters not so much and would be teetering the 2024 team on the edge. If we signed Connor Williams then Id be more ok with taking the trade route risk and believe he was healthy enough.
  10. Its seeming to me that there could definitely be scenarios where the Steelers phone is ringing on Day 2 about the availability of either of their QBs..
  11. He played soft in Arizona from what I could see, lot more like a DB than an LB.
  12. Same. I haven't done a full breakdown on him but when I see him make the plays he does I get excited especially with this offensive coordinator and offense and the possibility of opposite GP. I don't really care who the QB is because a guy that size that can pull away like that and make contested catches as well, sign me up. They talk about a one year track record but he was making those goto type plays last year it wasnt just out of nowhere and Rattlers Oline/protection was typically chaotic, like the Pittsburgh Steelers 1st half of the season bad.
  13. Mid to late 3rd round maybe. He caught my eye initially when I 1st scoured the WR field in December but it felt more pedestrian than spectacular, but it was plus side potential. There was quality ability and play there. Was surprised a bit by the combine numbers. Id be happier in the 4th or later though.
  14. The CBA is kind of like the Constitution, they don't really budge for the latest tremor. It would make way more sense for the league to adjust to adding a second bye week and or their desired additional game than to jump at a two to three year run of an NIL effect. Otherwise things will essentially go back to a degree of normal after a couple years, just like they always did before this run of underclassmen coming out in droves, way more than ever should of. From the NFLPA and vet players perspective they aren't going to shake up the league, give up their salaries to fight for spoiled kids that arent even part of the club yet. Running backs for one definitely have a much tougher weight to balance with their decision to stay or leave as it is definitely desirable to have less wear on your tires long term and shot at next possible deal but at same time they are the most famous in college and get your bag now while you can. O-lineman can make some NIL but not many making top level money to keep them out of the draft. The most likely positions to be affected would be QB, RB, WR & Pass Rushers, the ones that get a great deal of attention and an occasional dominant DT. What is more likely to happen is there will be some guardrails created for NIL and transfers (especially transfer windows) to keep stability in the NCAA by the NCAA and states laws. TBH there should be some degree of liability on the players part for signing an offer of a scholarship and then abandoning that agreement, a buyout in a sense with clauses in such cases as the head coach leaving or they haven't received so much playing time after so much time. What is interesting is the effect of the power of these top players having the mindset to say they will or wont do this: first the bowl games which affects the NCAA more than the NFL and now more and more the workouts, specific drill at the combine, medicals, the combine all together, visits, interviews etc. Its always an interesting balance and could work either way for any prospect.
  15. I don't think thats really fair not just by you but that whole narrative. The first game without Canada was a firestorm of figuring out who was gonna do what and an OC getting his first opportunity to lead putting an entire game plan together with and another guy a play caller switching his role back to something he did about 6 years ago all in 5 days. Not just Pittsburghs situation but historically you wouldn't exactly expect much the first week of that transition except a lot of signs of the change being obvious. Kenny did what was asked of him quite well that week and of course Diontae dropped and easy TD and then the fumble on the ensuing play. Shouldv'e been an easy 23 points that game and not to mention they likely would've taken control of the game and been able to run even more. Then the next week he was playing with the bad wheel and then injured it on a lousy play. Again that narrative of Glass Joe is pretty fair. One thing that I think Kenny made a fatal mistake of was not admitting the times he was injured, I think it was multiple times. Ben was notoriously upfront about his injuries, to a lot of medias ridicule. The San Fran game (if Kenny didnt have a concussion then I don't know what all these other guys are going out for), the rib injury vs Jax and then playing the next week and weeks afterwards on what is commonly a 3 week injury at least these days. Just two examples. I think its his own fault and he was foolish for hiding it with all the scrutiny he had. On the opposite end not being the emergency QB in week 17 was also dumb and selfish. Lets just move on, whats done is done. Its like talking bout your ex girlfriend at this point. Talk to me about what Russ actually did last year, not statistically but how effective was he really vs what he did the previous year? I don't even know that I caught one Broncos game this past season in part because of the ugly mess that was Russ the previous season. It was almost sad, or was sad, what he showed in 2022. These guys both hold the ball which is pretty much every persons complaint in here about KP8, so we better get that Center upgrade that can hold up not just move. Gawd Cole was horrible this year.
  16. I honestly had contemplated even from the draft day videos and on other occasions that he seemed reluctant about the "award" of staying in Pittsburgh. I know not everybody gets to go where they want to go but there was always some hesitancy about it like perhaps he wanted to sprout his wings more in his mind. It is what it is. We move on. I am more excited about Fields than I am Wilson, not that I don't like Wilson, I used to think the things he did a few years ago were very appealing and with so little to work with with that Oline and even his receivers before Lockett & DK. I didnt know anything about his character so perhaps I was naive. I did want us to draft Fields in the 1st round because of the potential ability and where we were at at the time with Ben. I thought it would've been a good development plan to work with.
  17. The national media is disgusting about Tomlin its obnoxious tbh and so are many of the parroters among fans. At the same time there is a lot of dumb excessive Tomlin hate by fans as well. Like everything with me, if the scales are tipping one way too much i'm likely to push down on the other side, whether it be an individual opinion or a crowd. Same thing with prospects, I tend to rag on guys when they are getting too much hype, but then I tend to defend them when everybody is piling on, doesn't mean i'm gonna change my grade just bringing it back to reality. Theres always a balance on everything when it comes to perspectives and opinions.
  18. that value makes up a good bit for giving pickett away for nothing, Not saying wed get a haul for kenny in any kind of way but they shipped him out on the first train
  19. Im never really trying to hate on Tomlin, just that as much as you think he is picked on I think he is overblown and defended that much. He doesn't deserve either the love or the hate to the degree that he gets them is my opinion. We dont talk about it very much but the turnover this team suffered in basically 1 year was devastating. Losing Pouncey, Decastro, Foster and Al all at the same time to go along with Tuitt and then Ben whether capable or not was a big change to suffer to go along with losing that Pro Bowl Oline squad.
  20. You want all of the accolades for him but none of the smoke ? 17 year head coach that "loves this stuff " has his nose right in the fire which is bragged about endlessly in Mobile etc. He gets all the credit for the ingredients but only when they are good ? Dotson & Green were they Colberts fault ? Those were two very big pieces of the plan that have shown capable and successful elsewhere almost immediately. DB Head coach that has struggled to pick or develop cornerbacks his entire tenure. It is THE worst position the Steelers have struggled with almost to a baffling degree. My bigger thing especially this past year is allowing coaches and culture to operate with such poor lack of details and execution. It almost felt like Tomlin was on vacation when it came to concern with the details of his players and coaches. The things that are put on the owner are the decision to keep Ben. The owner gives a directive, the GM & the HC come up with a plan and solution of how to make it happen. Rooney is involved but I think people give him way too much credit for picking the drapes. Rooney gave a directive that they needed to get back to the run and it needed to happen asap. Colbert & Tomlins solution was to draft a bell cow RB in the first round at all costs. Rooney says ok make it work . Rooney doesnt scout out Najee and say I want this guy no matter what.
  21. I think its a two way street tbh. Kenny did put up with a lot and the Steelers and Tomlin gave him scraps to work with. The Oline, the Center, the OC and despite all the love for the weapons, they let him down often, blocking, route running and understanding assignments and just plain discipline of techniques. Perfect storm of a mess to which the head coach is entirely accountable, its his ship. That all said, Kenny had to persevere to be something special or for it to be meant to be. He didn't really show much heart or maturity in that at all, and perhaps thats where the entitlement shows or lack of love for the game, the role, or the organization itself. It did always feel like he accepted an award of being drafted in Pittsburgh that he reluctantly accepted or didn't really want. Almost like he would've rather dealt with anywhere else. His physical talent level was always going to be an uphill battle and his heart and desire would be the things to carry him over the hump. If that is lacking then you are getting more of an average QB. My biggest concern easily became the durability. His physical stature just seems to lend to him getting rag dolled more than most. He and Tua were the reasons for my cautionary red flags with Bryce Young. Short isnt as much of a concern as is the durability and propensity for concussion in todays concussion protocol era. Your best ability is availability. Some guys are just Glass Joe.
  22. It was a shocker when I saw it, but was too busy to even follow up til now. I'll say a few things that concerned me about Kenny, a couple I mentioned here before. 1. Injury prone, plays much smaller than his size. The hand & glove thing was and is stupid for a guy that never had issues regarding it. 2. I felt whether its warranted or not that his wedding timing had to be a distraction, I dont care that its a good time to do for veterans. KP* shouldve been ramping up during that time for a guy that had so many questions going in to the season. Even though they were together for a while the newlywed situation had to be a distraction to a degree. I would've rathered it happened in the spring. 3. His arm was adequate but not great. 4. The red flag that did pop up for me was when the media asked him if he picked up anything or learned anything observing the game from the sidelines. He said "Nothing" That made me cringe for a guy with all the questions. 5. The way he handled that situation made me figure he wasnt handling the current situation well. 6. I did wonder about the lack of aggression and command, the eagerness to fight. It seemed like he was thinking about other things or just doing the job at times whether it was cause his situation sucked and he couldn't get a break or for whatever reason. 7. The last and final questionable thing was the media reporting about Cam, the Team Captain essentially courting Russ. I did think he had a chance but I think his attitude and way he handled things wore out his welcome and Tomlins willingness to fight for him. Funny thing about going to Philly besides him being a lifelong fan and from New Jersey. I always kind of thought his ability was good enough like that of say Nick Foles run to win you a Super Bowl. He's capable , but he is not a thoroughbred. I don't think we did him any favors at all. He should be a solid #2 there. Id take him over many other 2nd's in this league any day. Just don't know that he can make it more than 5 games in a row. We've failed our share prospects recently that have gone to be successful. Waiting for the other shoe to drop. 1. You need a backup ...is it Tannehill or are we trading for Fields. It would be funny if Russ got kiboshed with a trade for Fields. So many skits and short vids could be made about this scenario over and over. 2. Spencer Rattler value is increasing and I was enamored with his play increasingly as much as the 4-6 guys. My 4-6 is different than others. I am intrigued by Jordan Travis but also see the concerns. 3. This is not your fathers Steelers or mine for that matter. The Patrick Queen signing quells my concern/nausea. I also was a fan of D Elliot coming out of Texas and wanted us to grab him that year. 4. We're making more noise than the Cleveland Browns in March.
  23. You still need depth at the position. Veteran depth ideally in a very immature room. Boyd competes, he has more dog in him than Allen Robinson. I would not want him at a high price but adding a piece from the competition doesn't hurt either. We regularly beat Baltimore but Cincy/Burrow has had our number most out of the 3 division teams when Joe is healthy.
