This is the worst Thanksgiving slate in a long time
rich homie replied to notthatbluestuff's topic in NFL General
The absolute refusal to even consider moving the Lions and Cowboys from Thanksgiving is another example of the staunch conservatism of a lot of NFL fans. Many people will feel compelled to stick with how things are, just because they've always been that way, even if change is objectively better. Felt this way too with the huge backlash from moving the XP back in 2015 as well, just for another example. -
The 2006 Colts has to be one of the greatest teams in history
rich homie replied to Championshiporbust's topic in NFL General
I think that team still holds the record for the worst run defense in NFL history? Not just by a Super Bowl winner but like ever out of all teams to play. -
NFL to have 3 game preseason, 17 game regular season for 2021
rich homie replied to biggie.'s topic in NFL News
The NFL is so far behind the times. You would think they should have realized by now that having players violently smash into each other for 16 out of 17 weeks and then do nothing for the next 8 months is not the best way to manage a season. -
Would Tim Tebow be in the NFL had he changed positions?
rich homie replied to biggie.'s topic in NFL General
What we saw from Tebow in his NFL career is the absolute best possible one he could have had. You replay his career 10,000 times in different ways and none of it reaches the success that he actually had imo. -
Wow. I had resigned myself to giving up our first or something. This is actually a decent deal.

I don't know what "most major soccer teams" means considering there are tens of thousands of professional soccer teams around the world, and probably hundreds of thousands of semi-pro/amateur teams within league pyramids. At least before the pandemic the vast majority of them have been skating on by just like every other business. Forced parity measures like the salary cap and revenue sharing only work in a closed, well controlled system. Consider how England, a mini-country slightly smaller than the state of Alabama, has over 100 full time professional soccer teams, as well as around 7000 other teams that play in the same league system. Compared to only 30/32 in the US, there's no way to enforce parity or revenue sharing in those kinds of situations.

I tend to find that outside of the United States (and Canada) pro sports are run just like any other business, in that they're regulated just by regular old laws instead of the rules they choose to impose on themselves as a league. For instance, if a player signs a contract with a team, that contract is binding for both parties. A team cannot just tear it up or ship it away without the players' consent like what happens all the time in the US. Similarly, leagues can't have arbitrary restrictions for young players based on when they graduated secondary school; the ability for 14-17 year olds to play professionally is regulated almost entirely by child labor laws. All these points essentially mean that owners just have much less power in sports outside of the US. Outside, owners and players are fighting the same labor vs management battle that everyone else is, whereas in the US the owners have complete control of almost every aspect of the battlefield.

Super Bowl LV: Kansas City Chiefs vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
rich homie replied to BayRaider's topic in NFL General
We're all seeing what's happening right? I'm just shocked how brazen it is this time. -
Could the Patriots have fivepeated by 2007?
rich homie replied to Championshiporbust's topic in NFL General
They could also have lost every single one of their Super Bowls too? Like what's the question? -
Official FF BSET - Bob's Burgers vs Community
rich homie replied to Deadpulse's topic in Entertainment
Community is an all-timer for me. Bob's Burgers is just decent background noise -
Belichick knew that if Peyton got the ball back, the game was over, regardless of whether it was at his own 20 or the Patriots. Genuinely don't think there is another QB in NFL history that could strike that much fear into him at the height of their powers.
-
I think what we saw from Rodgers 2015-2019 makes the answer Manning. Peyton was a top 2/3 QB in the league pretty much every single year of his career between his first and his last. The one year where he stopped playing at an MVP pace he hung it up. He's never had the dips that Rodgers went through.

Do the 2020 Bucs pose a greater threat to KC than the 2019 49ers did?
rich homie replied to dtait93's topic in NFL General
Are you implying that the Bucs players would choose to make bad plays because of their QB situation last year? There are some tangible benefits to defensive players when they have good QB play. The argument doesn't work here because Brady has not been playing well. Like when he threw three interceptions in 7 passes, and the Bucs defense held Rodgers to only 7 points off those turnovers; to turn around and try to make it seem like that was actually Brady's accomplishment is kind of laughable. -

rich homie replied to dtait93's topic in NFL General
I don't know why people keep mentioning "the Brady factor" like the Bucs didn't just win two games in a row with him throwing for 199 yards and then 3 interceptions. -
I think Favre had his best years before 2004 and Drew Brees is the biggest beneficiary of the emphasis on the passing game in NFL history.
-
For the Colts it looks like 2018 might be it. Just our first two picks alone have a combined 5x first team all pros and 1x second team all pro in their combined six years in the league.

Did you mean "Favre" and "Brett"?

Best QB prospects that weren't “generational”?
rich homie replied to pwny's topic in NFL Comparisons
That was my first thought. I think Stafford was as close to a "generational" pick as it got without being hailed as a first ballot HoF'er before he played a down. -
2020 AFC Championship - Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs
rich homie replied to DigInBoys's topic in NFL General
Any given Sunday and all but both of those teams feel more on par with the AFC's B tier among teams like Indy, Cleveland, Baltimore, etc. -

Anybody else get the feeling that this is "the real Super Bowl"? -
One team winning the division more often than not is not parity.
