Do you guys think we'll hit the ground running for the UDFAs ? I hope we do. A bonus if one or two of those can make the final roster .

Yes, my guess is Peters & co. already have a list of guys they think will go in round 7 and if they don't they plan to sign them as UDFA’s.

He completed 55% of his passes for 140 yards against Washington. Didn’t throw a TD pass. They still won 34-13. He had 8 games where he threw one or no TD passes. His only 300 yard game was against an awful Purdue team that had the 67th ranked defense in college football. The idea this guy is a top 5 pick is just ridiculous.

If we draft McCarthy without a trade back, I would probably vomit. He is the 4th best QB in the draft. Drafting him at #2 would not make me happy.

I know... I know... #TrustTheProcess #InPetersWeTrust... but I just feel that is a tremendous waste of a very valuable asset. Again, if you don't see any difference between Maye, Daniels and McCarthy, just trade back a few spots, even if you only net an additional 2 this year, it would be worth it IMO.

At best he's the 4th QB in the draft. I have Penix above him & McCarthy & Nix as equals

Other than LB, the free agent signings have been the equivalent of shuffling deck chairs. We cut our LT and don’t have one. We signed an old, often injured TE. Hopefully Dotson develops but if he doesn’t we have nothing outside of Terry as far as pass catchers go. I know we still have time left and there’s the draft coming but this team looks like it’s going to be terrible next season.

True but interior OL we really improved as well

We haven’t won the off-season since Cerrato has been gone. Picking McCarthy would be a pick that Rivera would make. Obvious better talent on the board and we reach for someone who has no business going at that point.

Honestly, there has been nothing that has happened outside of the Peters hire that has me excited about the offseason so far. The free agent signings have been uninspiring. The coach hiring was a total letdown and if we ultimately take McCarthy at 2 I’ll be extremely worried about the direction this team is headed.

Really? I've liked most of the free-agent signings. I like the approach of not overspending on guys with long-term deals before you have your young core established and have a QB and know what you are going to be long term. I like how many of the signings will help us develop a culture of how Quinn does things and how he develops a winning culture. We certainly got a hell of a lot better at LB which is a relief & the interior OL.

I agree with your points about McCarthy though.

If the pick is McCarthy I'd probably just turn my tv off and go to bed. I probably wouldn't even watch the rest of our picks in the draft. Sorry @ripsean21. I know he's your boy but the absolute heartbreak I would feel walking away from this all important off-season with Dan Quinn and JJ McCarthy after thoughts of Ben Johnson and Drake Maye would just be crushing. Maybe it will work out but I'd just start to think "here we go again".

If it's McCarthy, I'm just going to hope I'm wrong about him and he shocks me while developing into a top 5 QB. I don't see it in him, or in his ability at all but again, If he's the pick I hope I'm wrong.

How many times have we won the offseason just to continue losing? I get that it might not be what was wanted but that doesn’t mean it won’t be right. And especially after this offseason I don’t think anyone should hate whoever we pick because I think this staff has atleast shown competence since being hired. I’d love the pick. But I’d love Maye as well. Daniels I’d be slightly worried! But I’m going to believe in the process because so far every addition outside of Mariota has made calculated sense for what these coaches have shown on tape before

My concern about JJ is that he's never shown he can put a team on his shoulders and lead them to wins off his play alone through out a season. I've said for months, for that reason alone I wouldn't take him in the top 10. I think he has the skills to develop & leadership qualities to eventually become a Purdy type QB but, at #2 I want better than Purdy.

Purdy is a good QB but he's aided by an elite team around him with elite playmakers, a great OL & an elite D. He makes some great passes, but he also makes a lot of easy passes & then his playmakers do all the work. I think I saw a stat where his playmakers have the most yac of any playmakers in the league.

I think that's what McCarthy will be.

I think Daniels, Maye & especially Penix have shown they can carry teams & they will be carrying their teams more than McCarthy will be off their play alone in the NFL.

I was very stoked about Chase Young. The rest were unknowns to me. I do remember thinking it was weird to draft a slot WR and make him a RB. I was also high after the Gandy-Golden selection  as a big tall receiver with good body positioning.... that didn't end well.

I hear you, but I'm talking about after the 2020 season. After that season Chase looked like he could be on his way to living up to the pre-draft hype, Gibson played pretty well at his first year being a full-time RB/dual threat RB & WR, and Curl broke out and played great as a rookie 7th round SS/Buffalo Nickel. Without those 3, I don't think we end up 7-9 in 2020.

Gibson had 11 rushing TDs as a rookie.

  9. It's totally unbelievable that the Caps made the playoffs this year. Once Backstrom retired I didn't think they had it in them. I know they still have the ole’ faithful in Ovi, Oshie & Carlson but these young guys are really exciting to me and have stepped their game up. I love how Lindi has played in goal.

I’ll be shocked if they beat the Rangers but I expect it to be a good series.

Of course I can’t wait for April 25th but With all the changes to the roster and new coaches I can’t wait to see this team play. Very excited and encouraged because I think this team can make the playoffs. Maybe being too optimistic but I really like how they’re assembling this team so far (minus the backup QB).

I don't see us making the playoffs but I do think we’ll win 6 or 7 games. The only way I see us making the playoffs is if our OTs play way better than we think it will & our rookie QB has a good to great rookie year.

Four years later, not a single draft pick remains on the roster. The roster mismanagement by the entire Rivera-led Front Office was atrocious.

    https://www.commanders.com/news/redskins-2020-nfl-draft-picks

Chase Young - traded to SF 2023

Antonio Gibson - Signed with NE 2024 FA

Saahdiq Charles - Signed with TEN 2024 FA

    Antonio Gandy-Golden - Retired 2022

Keith Ismael - Released 2022 - injury settlement

Khaleke Hudson - Signed NO 2024 FA

Kamren Curl - Signed LAR 2024 FA

    James Smith-Williams - Signed ATL 2024 FA

That's crazy bc I remember thinking that was a great draft for us especially after 2020 when Chase, Gibson & Curl were so intrical to our team winning the division.

Whats baffling about this to me is that every analyst says "Jayden may be better right away, but Maye likely will be better in the future" and they're making this a selection for us for 1-2 years.

I know we all want to win, but I think taking the time to develop someone like Maye, who is the prototype, who has all the traits and features you would want in a guy for the future makes this better to me. I'm no analyst or scout, but why raise the floor for 2 years when you can raise the ceiling for 15?

Yep, I've been saying this a lot on the socials.

Rivera was interviewed at the airport & when he was asked he just said “smokescreen.” I think or something like that.

The whole Jayden Daniels thing & McCarthy stuff could entirely be a smokescreen bc they're going to take Maye but we won't know until next Thursday.

There's a lot of similarities to JD, but I think he lacks in the mental acumen portion compared to JD.

Based on what? I've never heard that Penix has issues with mental acumen.

Age & injury are the reason Penix isn't a top 5 pick.

Me and you have been lock step on our vision but I def think this QB class is premier. I think this class is actually the type of class they talked up the 21 class to be I actually believe this class is what people wanted that one to be. I think it’s closer to the Mayfield class where there are over half that will have legit playing impact too teams in a positive way
