  1. I hope you're right since he's our most likely draft pick. And I'm no professional scouts so it's just one average Joe's opinion. I just see more of a Kenny Pickett type prospect. Can succeed if in the right situation but conditions have to be near perfect for that to happen. He doesn't throw a great deep ball. A lot of his tape is 1st-to-2nd read within the progression. Maybe the competitiveness is enough but I just don't feel great about it.
  2. The earliest I'd be willing to take McCarthy is late 1st round. I just don't see him as someone who elevates his team. And I have concerns about Daniels as well. He's not a polished passer but perhaps can get there with the right coaching. He is worth the risk. I don't think McCarthy is.
  3. I'm with you philosophically. I just don't think McCarthy is the guy and I don't want to take him just because we need a QB.
  4. We do need a QB so the answer should probably be McCarthy if he's there at 6 but this is the type of approach that nets you out a bad roster over time. What has Hyatt done to convince you he's a #1 target? Run fast? He might be a #1, but we have no idea and the odds are that he's not. Even if he is and we drafted Nabers, having two #1s is a good thing! Look at Cincy, Miami, Philly, etc. The Giants have far too long sprinkled their assets across too many positions giving them no depth at any position. Obviously, missing on so many OL kills our ability to draft for depth but the idea that Hyatt should stop you from drafting a WR1 is wild.
  5. I'm totally with you on QB and I do like Slayton I don't mean to knock him but to me he's like a Michael Gallup type of role on the Cowboys ideally. Bump up to WR2 for a short period of time, more normally settle in as WR3 and get your 500 yards with some big plays. He's a WR2 in an average WR corp and a WR3 in a good WR corp
  6. To be honest, there's an argument to be made that these 3 WRs would be reserve players on most other teams. Slayton is arguably your WR3/4 on a good team. Can make some plays but is also easily cutable for other. Wan'Dale put some nice film together but he a dime-a-dozen type of player right now and anything related to Hyatt is strictly hope. The 3 WRs at the top of the draft are way cleaner prospects than any of the R2 WRs. Yes, R2 WRs frequently hit and you can end up with a WR1 but you can't go into it saying, "we can just get that in R2, no worries". I would go so far as to draft WR in R1 AND R2 if the board falls a certain way. Slayton is gone after next year anyway and I'm not going to assume Hyatt is a future WR2. QB is 1000% more important than WR and if the right guy is within reach, the Giants should do it. I'm just deathly scared of them drafting the 4th QB because they feel like they need to. Especially when one of their biggest needs is sitting right there with the WRs.
  7. I am not for drafting JJ McCarthy at #6 because we think we're smarter than everyone else, like we did with Daniel Jones. If you like him, gamble on trade back a bit then take him / risk missing on him. Drafting him a full round earlier than his consensus because Jim Harbaugh says so is a bad idea.
  8. Is it at all possible that Vrabel ends up as the DC? There's only one other HC job available. He overlapped with Daboll in NE as a player.
  9. Wink and Daboll are having a PR battle like nothing I can remember amongst coaches. Everything either of them has said publicly is to set up so they can't say to the fan base and press, "hey it wasn't me, it was that guy". Dabes comments today are nothing different. He "expects him back" so that when he's not back, it seems like Wink forced his way out. Wink was doing the same thing for weeks leading up to the end of the season. I suppose there is a SMALL chance that Wink just says, "hey, you want me back then significantly increase my pay" like I'll deal with your **** if the number is right. It just seems so unlikely based on what each of them are saying in their public comments.
  10. I didn't include it because I don't think they'll have the opportunity. There are too many QB needy teams ahead of them in the draft. I truly believe we're going to see Jones next year with the possibility of a 2nd-3rd round project. But you're right, it is a big debate!
  11. With the loss to the Saints, it's time to finally give up on the playoff pipedream and look forward. Here's a few off-season defining moments to debate: 1. Had Devito done enough to be QB2 next season? I don't think he's quite there yet but close. NO is the best defense he's faced and he couldn't do much but he didn't embarrass himself either. No turnovers again and is moving better in the pocket despite the sacks. If he can have another 1-2 good games, it helps a lot not having to pay for a backup QB. 2. There's two players that can give them sizable cap savings: Mark Glowinski and Darius Slayton. The former is an easy cut. Darius Slayton is more complicated. At the moment, I'm leaning toward cutting him. It's not his fault, I like him. But he's not good enough to elevate an offense and therefore, that money is needed elsewhere. 3. Saquon-Schoen Part II - I think it'll be much less dramatic this time, but it's just as unclear what's going to happen. You might assume the tag is automatic without an extension, but there is someone else that may need the tag... 4. What happens with Xavier McKinney? - McKinney has had a weird career with the NYG. He's a very good player but not as great as he may think. It's hard to imagine him giving a hometown discount. I'm not even sure he likes it here. With the safety position also offering a reasonable franchise tag, he may be more important to keep around than Saquon. It's really hard to say. 5. Big Fish Shopping - it's time to spend. Schoen can't afford budget 1 year deals again. We have needs at QB2 (maybe), WR1, WR 2/3, iOL, RT, EDGE2/3, CB1 and more if we don't re-sign some guys. There are top players at important positions. There are WR1s to be had. There are starting OL available. There are veteran EDGEs that can give us depth and push/surpass Azeez. Of course, not all of these guys will be available once FA starts but a good amount will be. 6. What is our CB situation next season - it's one of the most important positions on the field and there are a lot of question marks. Deonte Banks has had a pretty good rookie season, but you can't pencil him in as CB1. Adoree has had a bad walk year and is less and less likely to be back. CorDale Flott has potential but also make too many bad plays. I would love to get a CB1 in FA because their contract would roll off the books by the time you have to pay Banks anyway. 7. Which coordinators are back? - I really hope Wink is still here next season. I don't want to start over when we finally have some pieces in place on defense. I like Kafka but am fine with him leaving too. 8. What are we doing at the top of the draft? We are likely to have 3 picks in the top 50. Personally, I'm targeting WR with our top 10 pick. It's a strong WR class including at the top, and I'm not against drafting two of them this year. We need that alpha and even if we get on in FA, teams with two alphas are running the league.
  12. Just reading between the lines, it's hard to imagine we don't end up with one of the top 2 QBs in the draft. It's just a matter of if we have to trade up to get there. But Schoen getting a 2nd RD pick for Leonard Williams and scouting these two QBs immensely are obvious signs. If we really "win" ourselves out of reach, I think we're looking at a trade-back. We have so few guys signed to contracts for 2024 as of today. At a minimum, we need mid-term solutions at QB1/2, RB, WR1/2, G, T, EDGE and S. I think you're going to see a more offensive draft strategy because the defense has some foundational pieces at each level of the defense. Dex, Thibs, Okereke, McFadden and Banks are all locked in for at least the next few years. Even if McKinney and Adoree aren't re-signed (and as of today, I think neither are re-signed), it is easy to find veteran pieces that can start/contribute at those spots. The same can be said for OL and RB, but you absolutely need to hit on QB when needed, then WR and EDGE consistently. For next year's EDGE room specifically, I think they'd be better off spending some $$$ on an EDGE2, relegating Azeez to EDGE3 and maybe drafting a mid-round EDGE4 if the board falls that way.
  13. This is an overstatement. Banks has been very promising and looks like a good pick. He has not been lock-down enough to treat him as CB1 going into next season but he has shown that he may be able to get there and even if he doesn't, he is a very good CB2. JMS has missed significant time and has shown just as much good as bad. I don't see how you have any different opinion of him as when we drafted him. Not saying I'm down on him but to say really good pick is too complimentary at this stage. Hyatt is the most overhyped. Again, big play ability? Absolutely. But we're over halfway through the season and he hasn't shown any progression. He has 2-3 games work of stats in 10 games. Meanwhile, Tank Dell, Josh Downs and Puka Nacua all have significantly better production. You can argue this is from QB play, etc but you also can't say he's definitely a good draft pick. The other points I definitely agree with. The defense is not far off from being really, really good. Need another EDGE, CB and S and then obviously depth but Dexy, Thibs, Okereke, McFadden in a lesser role, Banks and Pinnock as the 2nd safety is a really nice core.
  14. With rumors that Adoree is unlikely to be traded today, it has me wondering if they see him as a re-sign candidate. I could see a scenario where they're willing to gamble that he doesn't command much on the open market and they bring him back. You do need a blend of youth and experience, and continuity is often undervalued in the NFL. Personally, I would rather re-sign Adoree than Xavier McKinney. CB is a more premium position and Adoree should not command top CB $$$ like McKinney will demand top S $$$. And personally, McKinney doesn't seem to have any loyalty to the giants. I'd rather move on form him despite him being a good young player.
  15. Good teams don't kick the FG on 4th and 1 when a 1st down means the other team never gets the ball back. The Eagles, Chiefs of the world would never do it. Daboll can try to explain it away all he wants but it's playing to not lose and that's what loser teams do. I don't know why the cycle keeps repeating itself but it's like every head coach we bring in boxes themselves into not believing in the roster and therefore playing ultra conservative / not to lose. It sends the opposite message he's probably verbally saying to players in meetings. Daboll has time to correct it but it's a slippery slope.
  16. I think McFadden is looking better because he's not being asked to do too much. Not a knock on him but it's using him more appropriately allows him to play faster. They've been a good 1-2 punch. I don't think it stops them from upgrading if it makes sense but it's not as big of a weakness as we were scared about.
  17. To me, the biggest story of this game is that Tyrod was able to push the ball down the field with some success. I don't think the O-line had a better day. I think Tyrod was just making quicker decisions that Jones. Maybe better anticipation. It kind of reinforced that while not great, we do have enough weapons to move the ball and score points if only our O-line could block. But it also is a red flag on Jones. Of course, some of that could be how Buffalo played us defensively but it stuck out to me. My last gripe is that I don't love the play-calling in the highest leverage situations. Forget about the end of the first half with the run. Why run a single-route concept with the game on the line from the 1-yd line when you have a mobile QB? At best, Waller is making a tough catch with momentum toward the backline. Give Tyrod more than one read and an ability to scramble.
  18. I'm going to test if watching drunk improves the experience at all. That is the only input I have.
  19. Putting this here since it’s not specific to a single game.. Daboll has to start answering for some personnel and game decisions. Why on earth does DJ not get taken out in a game that’s out of hand? They disrespect him so much but then pay him and then disrespect him some more. It makes no sense. Same thing with Waller. Why is Waller still in there and finally getting targets when the game is out of hand? Why is someone who so obviously can’t field punts fielding punts? Why is Sterling Shepard on this team? This team is not as talented as we were led to believe but the coaching does not put them in advantageous situations.
  20. What a disaster. The worst game Jones has had in a long time and it’s very concerning. He doesn’t see open receivers. I get the OL is bad but you have to hit plays when they’re there. Opposing defenses just sit on the underneath routes all night. Nobody catches the ball in space. Waller one target through three quarters. Just an absolute disaster.
  21. What makes this game so crucial is that we have not shown that we can upset the best teams, so we HAVE to get every win we can get against the teams that are within our tier. We can account for 7 losses against top teams. That only leaves us a buffer of 1 or 2 games against everyone else, including the Seahawks. How many years in a row can we just assume a sweep of the Commies? New Orleans is no slouch. And there's bound to be a loss to a team decidedly worse than us (was almost the Cardinals). I really hope I'm eating my words in a few weeks after we steal one from Buffalo or Miami but with all the success last year, it was never against top teams.
  22. In a weird, sick, demented way I'm excited for this game. With Kittle and McCaffery needing a ton of attention, we should see more of Isaiah Simmons. I want to see a bigger sample size with him out there. With Okereke and Simmons (hopefully) occupied with the RB and TE, Banks and Hawkins should be on the biggest island they've been on yet. I guess Wink could go back to a zone-heavy approach but I really hope not. KT should not be dropping back into coverage as much as he has been. Put some pressure on Purdy and go get aggressive. We may end up losing by 21+ that way but better than dying a slow death.
  23. WE ARE SO BACK BABY!! jk we are very, very much not back.. terrible game and not just on the players.. what happened to pressure breaks pipes? wink has these guys sitting back waiting to get beat.. i know we have rookie CBs but it's not like the CB room was any better last season when we were balls to the walls.. offensively let's see if they can repeat what they did in the 2nd half against better pass rushers.. if they can get DJ time, they will have success. Maybe not a top 10 offense but enough to put points on the board. but a huge if. a short week against a stud team could not be a worse combination. just keep everyone healthy and let's go get after the seahawks
  24. How long of a leash do you think Glowinski has? Not how long of a leash do you think he should have because I think we'd all answer that the same way but what is a realistic timeframe of Daboll benching him?
  25. This game is coming at the perfect time but it's hard to even be confident in this one right now. This season can get away from us really quickly. Absolutely have to beat the Cardinals and then win one of the 49er or Seahawk games and let's be honest: we stand no chance against the 9ers.
