  1. That has always been his strength. While I think signing Kevin Green would have been a great pick-up and he would have certainly added to the one on one development and pass rushing the way that Jerry Olsvsky helps with the ILB'ers. You can't take anything away from Keith Butler as a position coach. He is an A+ as a LB coach.
  2. This Steelers team has a tendency to let their foot off the gas when it looks like they have a clearer or easier pass. Hence you hear all of the playing down criticisms. The Steelers played poorly in four games that they should have run away with going 2-2 (barely beating Cowboys, Ravens JV Team and losing to WFT, and Bengals). With all due respect, I will wait until after the game is played and if they EARN the win to accept victory. It is not guaranteed as we well know in Steeler land!
  3. I am not suggesting that they abandon Connor as the feature RB. He is the teams best and most consistent rusher despite some of the issues/obstacles. I think in 2021, I would try to keep Connor to be a RB2 if the price is right. I believe that the team needs a RB1 and that RB is not currently on the Steelers roster. My statement was that they could use a jolt. They need someone who can run past some defenders and open up some lanes: Claypool, Ray Ray, and McFarland have the tools for a gadget or specialty play. Dobbs has the tools to do some QB sneaks and RPO stuff. Open some t
  4. Steelers swept the Ravens three games in 2008 as well, when the Steelers won the SB that year. The Ravens returned the favor in 2014 after they beat the Steelers in Baltimore and the Steelers beat them 43-23 in Pittsburgh. Flacco and company dominated in a game without Leveon Bell and the Ravens won 30-17 and then losing a close one to the Patriots the next week.
  5. Who do you think will win in the other wildcard weekend play-off games? AFC #2. Bills vs. #7 Colts - - Tougher game than many may think. The Bills look unbeatable at times. The Colts are a sneaky good team. I think the Bills are on a mission to avoid another one and done in the play-offs. Can the Colts defense slow down the high flying Bills offense? The Colts will try to pound the ball with their physical OL, wear down the Bills defense which could be susceptible to a power run game and try keep the ball from from Josh Allen, Stephon Diggs and the high powered Bills offense. This
  6. #3 12-4 Pittsburgh Steelers host the #6 11-5 Cleveland Browns It's Deja Vu all over again! This time the winner moves on and loser goes home! When: January 10,2021 (Sunday night) 8:15 pm Chase Claypool and other young players got a little more game time and experience against the Browns Sunday and came up clutch. It will take a more Varsity effort from the Steelers Varsity Team Defense to contain Nick Chubb and the Browns rushing attack. Steelers offense has been tip-toeing between extending drives and getting first downs and scoring TD's versus
  7. This is where position coaching really comes in. This is also why I believe that less practices with pads is sometimes bad (especially for younger players as you get simulate the same intensity and speed as you do in pads hitting rather than helmets and shorts wrapping). This disrupts timing and causes problems with being able to read blocks. This is all on Benny. Correct me if I am wrong in my Football 101 on pulls: The RB typically stays behind the pulling OL on pulls and sweeps. The opposing LB'ers are taught to go to the pulling OL's, butt and meet the RB before he gets going
  8. I have really been thinking about this one Dr. Kurgan. My question is why does it have to be one or the other? Why couldn't this team not be able to have an effective rushing attack with Big Ben at QB? I am not suggesting that the Steelers need to be as effective at running the ball back in the days of Cowher Power with Dirt Dawson and Barry Foster. You get up by 14 points and they will four yards and a cloud of dust you to death. I almost want to use the term offensive parity to essentially mean balance. How dangerous is this offense if they can run, pass and possess the cl
  9. Great points. I agree that history has shown that you can find good and great backs other than round one. That has proven to be even more true today with the success of so many non first round backs. If they are the BPA, I say take them regardless of position. At this point, even QB. I think it is that way based on personnel and ability. Add the right components and you can change that. I love a high powered offense, but if you can pound the heck out of a team and they can't stop you, you will 1). kill with the TOP 2). Wear down an opposing defense even if or especially if you
  10. Now why would anyone want any of our soft/cream-puff OL's? 😁 That is the second time this has happened. Wiz got scooped up pretty quickly by the Chiefs too.
  11. I couldn't argue that much. I might take the CB instead of the IOL at #3, but if they sign a veteran free agent CB, then that would be solid. I certainly have not studied where these players fit, but the boxes are pretty much checked. Solid.
  12. I would hope that they were drafting an LT high. I would also bring in a moderately priced free agent veteran. I am not as concerned with Banner. Yes he had surgery, but he is an OT and not someone who is going to rely on his knees as much as a CB, WR, RB or even OLB. Banner is a road-grader. I honestly don't know how good he is in pass protection because he hasn't played enough. I mentioned Hawkins because he is on the current roster only. I would hope they tried to upgrade the depth as well. No debate from me there. Very fair points, but you gamble on some thing
  13. I think it also comes down to who you can potentially match up to play against in the first round. The Steelers (Browns) and Bills (Dolphins) could both lose one and that keeps things as they are with the Bills leading the tie breaker and still being #2. I think they win tonight though and that puts them back at #2 with both the Bills and Steelers being 12-3 going into the final week. Both opponents need a win and both Steelers and Bills are already in. On one hand, the Steelers need their offense to do something for four quarters. Yet they need a rest as well. Play them a series or two a
  14. My draft/free agent priorities right now are: 1. IOL - - No push whatsoever from Steelers OL much of the year. 2. RB - - Love Conner but see him benefitting from being RB2 (Snell, McFarland, Samuels) simply back-ups. 3. CB -- Probably gonna lose one or two here with Haden, Hilton and Sutton. 4. Edge - - If they cannot keep Bud, this is a need for depth/rotation 5. Blocking TE - - who can catch (Heath Miller Mark Bruener type needed). 6. Punter - - Can we trade this for a ST Coach? Danny Smith is all over the place with ST's. Need a strong legged punter. Berry has
  15. Who : Steelers 12-3 vs. Browns 10-5 When: Sunday, January 3, 2021 @ 1 pm Where: First Energy Stadium Cleveland, Ohio Why or What's at stake: Play-off spot for the Browns and possible higher play-off seeding for the Steelers/ Can the offense get better as well. Dionte Johnson and the Steelers offense didn't let another game or ball slip through their grasp. Ben and Dionte hook up deep to bring the Steelers back against a tough Colts team. The NY Jets did to the Browns what they did to the Steelers the previous year in hanging an loss on
  16. I know you asked this of warfelg, but I have a feeling he will still be in Pittsburgh for a few years.
  17. Tough question. Tough to answer after an emotional loss or losses, I should say. I don't think that Ben was the issue against Baltimore and Washington. However, the past two games have made me reconsider some of the errors that I saw from him in the Washington and Baltimore games (missed open receivers and decision making). This team needs help. I know we are all emotional, but saw how this team was without Ben in 2019. They were 8-8 with solid defense. They are wasting a great defense even with the injuries. I would argue that the last four games would be different if the offense showe
  18. What can you say after your team fails to win against a 2-10 team, yet you are in the play-offs hunt from first to possibly a wildcard? In the immortal words of Mora, Mora, Mora! You know the rest......... Steelers 11-3 vs. Colts 10-4 News flash: The sky is falling on the 2020 Steelers season. During this ugly four game span the defense has come out pretty lights out in forcing three and outs and holding opposing teams offenses in check......... Only to see an offense come out dazed and confused.................. Another week, ano
  19. I If he is sitting due to injury, I'm all for that. Take the time, get healed and lets roll. But when our offense struggles and we don't seem to have answers and everything goes inconsistent from passing to play calling and we don't evolve and instead run the same plays over and over again -- it lights a fire in me to see your starting QB get a "DNP - Coaches decision" next to their name in practice with the only explanation of "He gets off every Wednesday" My friend I greatly respect your football acumen and dialogue. We just differ in philosophy and that's okay too
  20. I think that a lot of it has to do with your personal development curve. Some players get it early and their abilities and technique transfer early Von Miller came in and performed for Denver early as a rookie. I remember the same with Clay Mathews as well. Bud was a slow developer, but now that the light clicked on, we are seeing more consistency from him. He has always shoed a flash here or there, but then would disappear. His off season work with former Falcon Edge Chuck Smith has helped him as well. Highsmith looks like he is starting out ahead of where Bud was in terms of taking his tale
  21. Eventually the sacks will come. He has definitely exceeded expectations in his first year. He looks like he can become a very good player and quite typically follow the trend of the Steelers developing another well-rounded 3-4 OLB in an already great line of Steelers who played that position.
  22. Losing pisses us all off. Losing and not playing your best makes us downright irate! I get it! That has been the Steelers issue. They have not played a complete game 13 games into the season. Regardless of cause, reason, rationalization or explanation they have to fix it fast. If not, it will be one and done in the play-offs and the real anger and name calling will start.
  23. Who: 11 - 2 Steelers vs. 2-10-1 Bengals Where: Paul Brown Stadium Cincinnati, OH When: Monday, December 21, 2020 @ 8:15 pm Key Bengals Offensive Players: QB Brandon Allen, RB Giovani Bernard, WR Tyler Boyd, WR Tee Higgins, WR AJ Green Key Bengals Defensive Players: S Jessie Bates III, CB William Jackson III, DE Carl Lawson, DT Geno Atkins It has been a December, NOT to remember in Steelers Nation Steelers are definitely trending in the wrong direction in December with a 1-2 record in the month. The Steelers are playing like a very tired vet
  24. The communication is definitely out of sync. They need to get everyone playing and singing on the same sheet/tune. Pouncey and Connor are now both off the list. Pouncey was just activated. Connor, I believe, actually came off either the night of the WFT game or a day or two after it. Vince Williams is now the only Steeler on the Covid-19 list. However, DE Chris Wormley and WR Chase Claypool have missed practice time due to illness. Hopefully it is just cold or flu. No word that either has tested positive, so no news is good news thus far. https://steelersdepot.com/2020/12/steele
