  1. Mid-FA Period Mock Draft (Jets Trade)

I have to say this is very confusing for the Texans. 3a - I’m good here. We definitely need more help at Tackle. 3b - We have a very good young NT in DJ Reader. We have great DT depth. Can’t see any reason we would ever draft a NT. 3c - Cole is good but why would we draft him? Nick Martin is the best part of our Line at C in his third year. We just signed two more Guards in FA. Don’t see this being a pick. Another OT, maybe. Overall our needs in order are now: LT - Davenport May develop but may not CB1 - JJo is a stop gap TE - Need a blocker like Dalton Schultz RT OLB - Merciless entering final year of deal RB - Foreman’s health questionable and Lamar Miller will be released next year when he’s due $7.5M I would guess we use a later round pick on one who can block and play ST to QB2 : probably Matt Moore coming in, but if not Kyle Allen or Logan Woodside with a 6th makes sense.
  2. Good draft but just a heads up from a Texans fan. We have about $65M in cap space. Needs at LT/RT/LG/CB/Slot CB/SS and our new GM said we will be VERY active in FA. I'm guessing we go after a Safety, LT and a LG prior to the draft. Also someone at (ESPN?) had us as the 2nd most desirable landing spot for free agents this year. No income tax, young franchise QB with Foreman/Fuller/Miller/DHop to put up points and talent all over the Defense (albeit big holes in the secondary)
  3. *Free Agency + Mock Draft* (V-Day Mock)

Glad you got Houston picking up Jimmy G. I don't think we go after him, b/c we need a real Pass Blocker. We have two pass catching TEs and we are about to lose our young Blocker/Catcher to retirement due to concussions. I think we will wait until the draft for our blocking TE around late 3rd or early 4th. I'm mainly glad b/c with Houston not having a 1st round pick, a lot of Mock Free Agency posts I see show no pickups by Houston. We just freed up more space releasing Cushing, and our GM said we will be VERY active in FA. I see us grabbing at least one of the Top 3 CBs on the market and making a solid run at a LG other than Norwell.
  4. Clowney Extension

I really don't think he gets over $17M. I know that is still high, but I think that's what he gets. Watt's contract was a few years ago and unfortunately contracts are rising. I have a feeling he gets 5 years frontloaded with the 5th year being easy for us to get out of. The real question to me, is will Watt restructure? Texans have no leverage to make him, but they can still try. He's made a fortune already and another fortune in endorsements. It's not like it would kill him to take a small pay reduction based on two years of very little production. But frankly from a player standpoint he busted his *** all offseason and was then hurt on the job, so....I wouldn't.
  5. I'm very interested in bringing back Ellington. He's our #3 we've always wanted in that he can fill in as a Possession receiver well, in Fuller's spot with his speed (not that he's Fuller fast, noone is) and is a great Slot WR. I see unfairly on here that he will get a small two year deal b/c he was a nobody. Here's the thing, he was drafted by the 49ers and did a few things, but with horrific QB play he never developed. He spends one half season with us and is looking like an animal. In the regular season we got exactly what we saw in Training Camp which is rare with our WRs. And the best part....he's only 26!! I really think he gets a 4 year deal somewhere due to his age and versatility alone. I think we should capitalize on how he played with Watson and give him a fair deal and lock up our third WR finally. Let Braxton and Co fight it out for the other two spots. I would love to have a Trio of weapons at WR locked up for 3-4 years with Watson to grow with. Kenny Stills last year was 25 and signed a 4 year/ $32M contract. Robert Woods was 25 and got 5 years/$39M. What are your thoughts?
  6. Schedule help....

Anyone know when the schedulers release which games are home/away? I’m trying to plan a huge Tailgate for the Labor Day weekend (Preseason week 4) game, but wondering how long until we know if that’s a Home game or not.
  7. Texans off-season thread

He will save Some money (salaries are now divided and taxed by the State each game is played in now, so they pay State Income Tax on away games). The point I'm making is : - He knows their Defense. - He's in California and Houston (while I love it) is not California. He - We may have a Franchise QB, but so do they. Yes we have Watt/Clowney, but they have a much better secondary and Aaron Donald. And Gurley. It's a wash - Ok, maybe we have $, but we have a TON of holes, and Clowney will make quite a dent. They do too, and we aren't going to break the bank. And shouldn't. He's solid, but not elite. If he was, they would just Franchise him.
  8. Texans off-season thread

PFF's analytics can be SO terrible though. I get it though, you have to use something. It just fails to take a lot of major information into consideration. Wasn't it PFF that had Lamar Miller as the 34th best RB this year? It doesn't factor in our terrible O-line, or that with Watson he was a fantastic RB.
  9. Texans off-season thread

I gotta say I like a lot of this, good thought put in. A few thoughts I would add are: - I think Derek Newton will be a very solid RG. Not RT, but RG. He played LG for a few years when we played tough interior D-lines like KC and played well. I think coming off of the injury he would be a very solid RG, and I think he has shown real heart to rehab how he has and he will play tough. - Love the Jerod Evans pickup. I second this and would do this immediately. I like him during the draft and still like him now to compliment Watson. - I don't think we get Solder. I've even heard he may retire if he's not a Patriot next year. For this reason, I think trading for Veldheer from the Cards would be a great one year rental/prove it deal. We have the cap, they have the depth, and if healthy he is a very solid LT day one. - Don't know if we need him, but I think a very underrated CB is Aaron Colvin and Jax can't keep him with their other FAs. - I believe Mancz is an RFA, so we don't have to resign him yet. - Unpopular but for the Price and Depth, I would absolutely resign Alfred Blue and XSF. Foreman could not see the field in 2018 (a 33% chance he never does). Our backup to Lamar Miller right now is Jordan Todman. Blue is our best Special Teamer, and believe it or not was the #1 Pass Blocking RB in 2016 (I haven't seen this years stats yet). He's serviceable and cheap and I think would be a huge value resigning for a cheap 2 year deal. XSF is out of necessity. He's a Pulling Guard and there aren't a lot out there. When he had a remotely decent LT next to him he played well and I think whether it's Solder/Veldheer/someone else that LT is our highest priority and XSF will have a capable guy on both sides. I think he plays well enough to knock out that resigning leaving a Vet Swing Tackle as our next highest priority. - I like where your head is at with Joyner, but I just don't think we get him or Trumaine Johnson. I want him, don't get me wrong, but they're in Los Angeles, on a team with a Franchise QB, and the Rams have plenty of money this offseason to sign them both and Sammy Watkins. They have over $45M in Cap space, and that's before purging contracts of underperforming players. - If CJF retires, I think an interesting player to look at is Crockett Gilmore. He's the same size as CJF and drafted in the same round. He played for an underperforming Ravens team and was asked to block a lot. He is a good blocker, has the right size and will be a bargain player. I think he could be that "out of nowhere player" that kills it with DeShaun Watson. - I like packaging KJax with a 3rd comp for a 2nd. Well worth it for another team who is CB needy.
  10. I like the Texans draft a lot. Here is what I've said of others if it helps you in later drafts. __________________________________________ I like a lot of this. For the Texans though, they have already stated (which is unlike them) that with no 1st or 2nd rounders they are planning on making big splashes in FA. They are expected to release Brian Cushing b/c they have 3 great MLBs and RG Jeff Allen who has been terrible. This will bring the Texans to $70M in Cap room. I don't see any way the Texans go into the draft without a LT. They just won't. The new GM announced yesterday his top priorities right now are an extension for Clowney (likely close to $20M, which will bring us back to $50M in Cap Space) and the O-line. Newton will likely play RG and Davenport RT and Nick Martin at C. I think you are right (and it's not popular) but the Texans will Resign LG Xavier Sua'Filo. He's a Pulling Guard which is hard to come by and important in our scheme. These moves would allow us to draft an OG in the late 3rd for depth and resign Chris Clark for OT depth. It allows us the freedom to not have to overspend in FA, and not be forced into a pick in the early 3rd. I have seen interesting thoughts from a few that we may trade a 4th for Jared Veldheer the LT for the Cards. The Cards have depth at OT and Veldheer is a one year rental coming off a season ending injury. No way we pay more than an early 4th, but an interesting thought. The new GM Gaine is a disciple of Rick Smith and Smith's main principal via draft if BPA, so he tries to bring in value FA's to fill all major holes Prior to the draft. Besides LT, our next biggest need is in our Secondary. Jonathan Joseph is gone, Kareem Jackson is mediocre and Kevin Johnson struggled but shows signs. I think we bring in a Top Tier CB and let JJo walk. I LOVE the addition of Kenny Vaccaro to the Texans. I really hope that happens, and I believe we have the room. It all comes down to if he wants to leave New Orleans. The Saints have $30M in space and Brees I'm guessing will make a team friendly deal around $18-22M for one year. Leaves room for them to keep KV if he wants to stay, but he's a Texas boy who went to UT, so there's hope! I would say our Top need for Future multi round drafts IF we grab a LT and CB are : TE (CJ Fiedorowicz likely to retire), OL, DB. In that order. With our early 3rd rounder though, I think if someone falls we may surprise people and grab a top RB. People will say we have Lamar Miller and D'Onta Foreman who looked studly last year, but his BEST CASE scenario is playing Week 10 of next year. Lamar Miller is due over $7M in 2019, so I think he's released then. That means between now and 2020 we will have 2 RBs for 6 games...and that's best case. Only 1/3 RBs can come back to full form after a ruptured Achilles, so we may need an RB now! Also Alfred Blue is gone. Great draft and hope people can use this info.
  11. 2018 Mock 1st w/ Trades/Mini FA

I posted this on a few others and wanted to include it for people like you willing to put the time into FA on top of Draft rounds (glad you're doing it!!). The biggest $ on my mind is why everyone seems to have the Texans sitting on over $70 in Cap Space (after likely releases of Cushing and Jared Allen who are not needed and due way too much). After trading our 1st and 2nd the Texans were very vocal (with McNair on stage) that they will make big splashes in FA this year. Clowney will get extended, but still leaves over $50M. A starting LT will be easy to bring in to protect DeShaun Watson and a Top CB is very likely to be something we overpay for with Jonathan Joseph walking. Here is what I said previously: ---------------------- I like a lot of this. 12. First, you did a ton of work, and THANK YOU, it's fun to see these and you did a great job. The Texans draft is VERY good. The only thing is in Round 3 I may go Chubb or Michel, and I have attached a post below I did for someone else. The only real friendly knock I would give is you seem to have the Texans who have been vocal that they will make splashes in FA sitting on their $70M in Cap space for some reason. I don't see them NOT signing a LT and CB1 prior to the draft. Here is what I said below: _______________________________ For the Texans though, they have already stated (which is unlike them) that with no 1st or 2nd rounders they are planning on making big splashes in FA.
