  1. Chargers Corey Liuget Out For Season

    RIP our run D
  2. Chargers Regular/Pre Season thread

Yeah, we can win them, but it won't be easy. We have the pass rush and secondary that we could pull off a Giants/Ravens type run. But, really, I think this season is the prelude to the 2019-2020 window. Right now we have a 2 game lead in the wild card race. If we go 3-2 over the next five, we should be able to rest our starters in Week 17.

If one area of our team was to be weak, I'd want it to be the run defense. Every year there's a few teams that get into the playoffs despite awful run defenses, and they still manage to win games there.
  4. Week 11 GDT

Still have a 2 game lead in the WC race
  5. Week 11 GDT

Oh, for sure. Only Spanos would have given McCoy a fourth year.
  6. Week 11 GDT

Whiz was here for two years (total) under McCoy. That second year saw Gordon make the huge step forward from his rookie season, and the biggest reason had to be that we were no longer completely predictable on offense. Under Reich, the way we lined up telegraphed where we were going to run. So we saw defenders swarming the gap before the RB could even make it to the line of scrimmage on nearly every run play.
  7. Week 11 GDT

The passing game was never an issue with Reich. But, seeing the difference between him and Whiz, it was clear that he had no idea how to coordinate a run game.

Does this injury change what the Chargers do with Perryman this offseason? I think we've seen how key he's been to our run defense, but he just can't seem to stay on the field. He's now played 14, 12, 7, 9 games in each of his four years.

Think we'll run with two kickers? (like Badgley for FG/XP and someone else as a kickoff specialist)
  10. Week 9 GDT

I want Telesco to spend all of the Day 3 picks on ST, but then we might miss out on another Desmond King

I'm thinking this season plays out like 2013. 1. Narrow victory over the Chiefs backups in week 17 to secure a playoff spot (#5 seed) 2. Look good beating up on mediocre team in wild card round (winner of AFC South) 3. Get stomped by rival in divisional round (Chiefs)

Badgley now 10/10 on all kicks (3/3 FG, 7/7 XP)... maybe Kaser's holding really was the problem? It's a shame that he doesn't have the leg strength for kickoffs, though. Same problem we had with Nick Novak a few years ago.
  13. Patrick Peterson ask to be traded.

We don't need to sign Bosa next year. He's got this year + next on his rookie deal, then the 5th year option after that. That trade would give us a CB trio of Casey Hayward/Peterson/Desmond King ... and a pass rush duo of Ingram/Bosa ... all locked up through 2020. Plus Derwin James in the secondary. That's a pass defense that can legit help the Chargers win a Super Bowl with Rivers. The contract is reasonable at $11-12m per year, and we've got cap space to work with. I'd trade the Chargers 1st round pick, straight up.
  14. Chargers best case long term solution

Option C has to be the owners putting pressure on Spanos to sell. The lack of ticket sales is putting pressure on their bottom lines. There's gotta be tension building against Spanos.
  15. Chargers Offseason thread

My money would be on a RB. If Gordon goes down, we're still relying on Austin Ekeler to carry the entire running game.
