My answer:
1985 Bears and 1989 49ers (both teams were head and shoulders above the rest of the league, I don’t feel like either was lucky to avoid anyone)
Also the 1979 Steelers

The Rams definitely lucked out avoiding the dynastic Chiefs - instead getting to play a happy-to-be-there Bengals outfit. And they still barely won.
2021 Chiefs were good but not exactly a Death Star either. They had no pass rush, Stafford would’ve had all day against that defense. They made Gabe Davis look like Jerry Rice. The key to the game probably would’ve been whether OBJ still tears his ACL

The CFL leading receiver in 2022 (Dalton Schoen) was cut by the Chiefs after preseason. He wasn’t able to crack the 53 man roster
But he’s been a top 3 receiver ever since he came into the CFL
Chiefs would win very easily, with either set of rules and in any stadium

What do you mean survive? Still win a ring? Brady
Put up great stats? Rodgers and Stafford

They’d be very strong and they’d win the Super Bowl. I would love to watch it.

I would agree but since 1976 only two QBs ever went back after losing in their first start and since 2000 no QB has went back. That’s a very large sample size. And it’s easy to say once a QB lose that their team will be back. How many people had Hurts going back this season? How many had Burrow getting back after he lost? And as I mentioned McNabb went to 5 NFCCG so he had plenty of chances to get back but didn’t.
Im sure eventually someone will breakthrough. Goff should’ve done it this season. Up 17pts in the 2nd half and the Lions blew it. But the more the league has great QBs like Herbert, Lawrence, Lamar, Stroud, Allen, then Caleb, Jayden, and Maye next season harder it will be for guys like Burrow, Goff, and Hurts to get back and whomever else ends up on this list.
After McNabb made a Super Bowl, the Eagles only made one more NFCCG with him (2008). He lost his 1st three appearances

1993 Chiefs-Raiders at Arrowhead
Raiders had a lead on Buffalo late and a win would’ve sent them here the next week. Who would win?
Los Angeles proved they could hang with the powerful Bills, but Marty Schottenheimer always had the Raiders number…

Can Kelce just go away already? Sick of him being so damn good. I'm ready to start the Mahomes was carried by Kelce narrative.
Kelce couldn’t even win a divisional playoff game before Mahomes
Mahomes is just a franchise changing player
And Kelce is a hall of famer

Really? Let's take the 1988 season:
Comp: 53%
TD/INT: 3/3
Rating: 72Do you consider this a "great" year? This is Young playing on a dominant, Super Bowl winning team no less.
From 1987-1990, Steve Young had 23 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, with a passer rating of 102.1 on 324 attempts

The whole dumping champagne(?) on people after a game thing comes to mind first and foremost, but there's a long list.
It’s odd how the only people I see complaining about this are non-Chiefs fans

25 losses throughout an 7 year NFL career is an insanely high win %, and why I said he hasn't really faced adversity (a tough season on the whole) until this year, and this year in that instance, to me, he really showed how he can't handle losing. I don't have any reason to not like Mahomes. They don't have a rivalry with Baltimore, he's generally a likeable guy, but that one instance really just rubbed me the wrong way, especially since like I said they were just blatantly wrong in the first place.
The majority of his career they've been winning and winning easily. They've won 12 or more games every single year since he became the starter except this year lmao. My mind isn't gonna change on this situation, and I truly believe that he showed who he is when he's not constantly winning.
I agree, he can’t handle losing. Doesn’t tolerate it
He still always shakes the opponent’s hand after the game, but he despises losing. Hope he never changes

Saints were most disappointing
2005 was particularly disappointing for the Colts, but they wound up getting it in 2006

During their respective regular seasons, the 2001 Rams gave up fewer points, yards, and yards per play than the 1997 Packers.
2001 Rams were very good on both sides of the ball
Turnovers was their weakness, and ultimately their downfall in Super Bowl 36

For me it just kind of showed Patrick's true colors when things don't go his way. Life has been on easy mode basically in the NFL until this year where they're facing adversity and the second something didn't go his way he threw a temper tantrum about it. I lost some respect for him for that for sure, especially because they were blatantly wrong.
I’m pretty sure being down 10 points in the Super Bowl is “adversity.” Happened 3 times, he won twice (49ers, Eagles). Coming back in the playoffs isn’t easy
But even Eric Bienemy said Patrick is a “competitive p####”.

2001 Rams.
the 1997 Packers had no business being 14 point favorites. The 12-4 Broncos were elite and had the best point differential in the NFL that year
I think the 2001 Rams losing to a very pedestrian team (statistically) like the 2001 Patriots was a massive upset. The high powered Broncos winning against a very good, but not spectacular, Packers team was only an upset because of the past NFC>AFC dominance and a belief that Elway couldn’t perform in Super Bowls

I know you're not serious because I've been making a thread on the subject literally every year since 2020 and the majority answer was always "NO" until this year lol.
Also, are you suggesting that Swift has NO BEARING WHATSOEVER on people disliking the Chiefs? Because that's clearly false.
This is a site with pretty well-reasoned football fans. If you went to social media you’d see the hate for KC was already pretty high, even before Super Bowl 57

This thread is going to be mayhem... either the Bills win, meaning they're advancing to the AFC Championship against Lamar and the Ravens, meaning they eliminated a Chiefs team that finally seems to be in a sort of villain status (I guess because of Taylor Swift or something) OR the Chiefs win, meaning Mahomes ended Buffalo's season yet again and he's on to his 6th straight AFC title game and it's just going to be pandemonium...
Chiefs have been villains since like 2020
Has nothing to do with Taylor Swift.

Depends on what you consider “the hump”
I’m not sure if the Moon Oilers were young but they never made a conference championship game
There were some good Jaguar teams from the 90s and mid 2000s who never made a Super Bowl

I’m picking the Ravens. I think it’ll be very close

The last time these teams met, the Chiefs didn’t have their starting LT or RB. I also don’t expect Toney or Moore to see the field on Sunday

Man... I know Montana was at the end of his career, but he still out dueled Elway and Young and faced off against Kelly and Marino going 2-1 in the playoffs for you guys with 2 huge 4q comebacks. His other loss (93) he was knocked out half way into the game and had a good shot at taking y'all to the Super Bowl vs. the Boys
Montana was at his peak in SF. He was nearly unmatched as a playoff performer, only Brady is in that category. Bradshaw was good too considering the era
But no Chief quarterback has been better in the playoffs than Mahomes. Dawson was great but Mahomes has been unreal
The Montana we got was impressive but past his prime

Some two times in the last 28 years? Not sure that's enough for his body to adapt to it. Pretty sure he'll be in the same boat as Tua and everyone else that wasn't born and raised in Bemidji MN
He adapted well enough to play well in those conditions
At first I was worried about drafting a QB from Texas but he’s the best playoff quarterback we’ve ever had. The cold never fazed him
It’ll be cold but Mahomes has handled freezing temperatures better than Tua has so far in their NFL career
How close is the rest of the league to Kansas City?

I think keeping it close is a Reid thing, not a Mahomes team. Our average point differential improved once we got Mahomes, but Reid still coached too many close games that we had been dominating for like the first 45 minutes (especially in 2020)
