  1. 2020 NFL Draft Thread

Gruden likes his offense as is. And wants the QBs to adjust to his system. It's one of the reasons that Gruden has never developed a QB on his own. And why I think it would be better for most rookie QBs to sit at least a year in Gruden's system (two years would be better IMO).

Smoke screens happen every year. But this is telling. Last draft, our pick was too high for the player we drafted. And this year's draft, it looks like there is a player or two that we are not drafting high enough for. Hence, the need to push QBs higher up boards. I seriously hope the Chargers and maybe Jags are stupid.

Actually it's not. Gruden runs a very complex version of the WCO that makes good use of the run game. If a rookie were to start for some reason, Gruden would have to simplify things and spoon feed the young QB to get him caught up. But you are not wrong about the pieces we have.

Brees used to carry his offense in college (over 500 attempts in 3 of 4 years). I remember wondering why pro scouts didn't think he was a 1st round pick. Obviously his height was the issue at the time. While Fromm needs his running game to be effective to move the ball (never over 400 attempts). No height issue but can't carry an offense. If the Saints draft him, they better make sure the ground game is solid for him.

QBs can credit two things for that: the rookie wage scale and teams being more willing to simplify or even change their offense to accommodate the rookie QB.

You judge QBs more leniently than I do. My Current Rankings: 1) Joe Burrow - Grade: Top 3 2) Tua - Grade: Top 10 3) Jordan Love - Grade: Early 2nd 4) Jacob Eason - Grade: 3rd round 5) Justin Herbert - Grade: 4th round 6) Jake Fromm - Grade: 5th round 7) Jalen Hurts - Grade: Would not draft ----- The top 2 QBs are obvious. I would not draft Jordan Love until the 2nd round. He has great talent and NFL GMs are going to draft him much higher based on his ceiling. I think he is a bit raw as a QB. Eason is the most aggravating QB in this class due to his inconsistency. Would have him ranked in the 1st round if it wasn't for that. Arguably the best natural thrower in this class. Justin Herbert's lack of accuracy and introvert personality SHOULD be turning scouts off. But he will be the most overdrafted QB in this class IMO. Jake Fromm is a game manager. I do not understand the Brees comparisons. He will be overdrafted too but shouldn't get drafted higher than late 1st. Jalen Hurts has the leadership intangibles but his passing skills need a lot of work. His showing at the senior bowl did not help.

    Thank you.

Just because I don't think a QB will get drafted, doesn't mean I wouldn't want one (a worthy one). Mayock has to do due diligence on all positions. So even though there may not be reports, he is looking.

The bolded is what I'm afraid of. If he succeeds, we are stuck with him for 10 years. We will never win a SB with him unless we have the 2000 Ravens defense. Would rather deal with a QB bust. At least then, we can move on and draft someone else.
  10. 2020 NFL Draft Thread

Yeah, Mayock has to look into all the prospects that he can, so he can be prepared. Just don't think he will draft a QB.

Smoke screen. They want to trick the Chargers in to thinking we will draft one.

Fromm is Andy Dalton / Alex Smith. Game manager with poor physical tools. Any team that drafts him is going to be in QB purgatory for ten years. I would rather keep Carr than draft him.

I missed it. Trying to get the highlights. Who looked good?

Kizer was drafted in the 2nd round. QBs get pushed up draft boards every year. NFL GMs are going to make those decisions. I want the Raiders to address the defense and/or a WR.

Don't know much about him. But he has a good number of sacks. I am thinking 3-4 edge, maybe?
