Round 5 Pick 148: S Marcus Allen 6’2 215

Intimidator.  Big hitter.  Solid tackler.  High football IQ.  Passionate player.  Has average speed and wil possibly be the Dime LB or even bulk up to full time MLB.  Aggressive downhill thumper who attacks rather than waiting on the ball carrier.  I love this Pick due to the fact of one layer gets hurt, it affects the scheme.  Well now you have 3 or 4 guys who all can play the same role.  Very very smart football by the Steelers!

Marcus Allen 6-2 215 4.60 in the 40 yard dash, 1.57 in the 10, and 2.67 in the 20.  Vertical jump was 37”, Broad Jump was 10’07”, 20 yard shuttle was 4.32, and 3 come was 7.13 seconds.  Derwin James ran a 1.50 10 yard split but had more deep speed.  Allen is explosive but seems more of a one speed guy.

when has there been a safety in NCAA convert to LB in NFL as a rookie ( or non rookie )  in the last few years ? There is a risk involved, and I can't expect the rookie to play much

Shaq Thompson.  Deone Bucannon.  Mark Barron.  Brian Urlacher.  Telvin Smith.  Deion Jones.  There's a growing list.

If this works, it could be similar speed to Shazier which is good as the D needs speed. It will come down to his reaction skills inside.

Shazier ran a 4.3.   This dude is a 4.6.  Nowhere near the same caliber of athlete or speed.

Unofficial 4.36 pro day.  Typically a tenth of a second faster than laser timed combine times.
