I have both a statement and a question.

First the statement, the prospect of matthew thomas really excites me and I hope he makes the roster.

The question, if he does make the roster, who doesnt as a result?

Matthew Thomas will make the roster.  Fort, Matakevich, Jelsey and Galambos are in trouble of not making the team.  I actually like all the OLBs the Steelers have on the roster.  Not big names but some exciting talent is at OLB.

Even Dupree?

Dupree is a 4 year one trick pony.  I don’t like him not getting any better. Add those Harrison comments he made last year and I see why he sucks.  We all have jobs/careers and there is much self development done in order for us to get better.  He blames his failures and lack of growth on a team mate.  Pathetic!

What is his one trick?  Sucking?

Not even trying to be a smart-arse.   I just dont really know what it is he does well.

Although, Im not sure he "blamed" Harrison for his failures....unless I missed something.   He still shouldve kept his mouth shut.

As Ive said before, AT BEST, I could see a Jason Worilds situation...having a slightly better contract year.

I hope Im wrong, though.   Despite my current disdain for Dupree, I would happily eat my words if he can somehow breakout like I thought he might do in 2018.   However, after 3 years of seeing little to no development, Im not optimistic.

Dupree speed off the edge is impressive but he lacks the ability to redirect if that speed is stopped.  Every good to great passrusher uses their hands to keep the other players’ hands off them.  You can’t block what you can’t touch; Dupree doesn’t seem to understand that.

Once Harrison signed with the Pats, Dupree basically called him a bad team mate for not helping/showing him how to be successful.  You’re a professional so figure it out!  It is well known, and documented, how much Harrison spends on training and taking care of his body.

Oh, I know he is very athletic, but I still dont see it translating to anything good on the field.     His ability to occasionally RUN AROUND blocks doesnt impress me.   I get more hung up on how often he fails to disengage from blockers who get their hands on him.   Its embarrassing.

And I didnt see that comment regarding Harrison.   I do remember him calling Harrison out, but I didnt recall him blaming Harrison for anything.

Either way, it does matter.    Harrison was a borderline HOF player and Dupree looks like a career backup....at best.

Absolutely no chance Matakevich doesn't make the roster. He's been one of our best special teams guys and will be our 3rd ILB for sure. Fort, Jelsey(who?), and Galambos are probably not making the team.

I see the ILB shaking out like:

Vince - Bostic - Matakevich - Thomas

I hope Thomas really busts his butt on ST because I think he might actually be the future at ILB if he puts it together.

his speed means nothing since he is slow off the snap - all means moot .  I wanted the FO to trade dupree and move on but the FO will fight every instinct and make every excuse to try to make their RD1 picks work. If for some reason dupree is sidelined (suspension, injured or benched) I don't expect any drop off in production, but that isn't saying much. However, I think in Adeniyi gets a chance , he could make some noise, but will he get the chance.

dupree's behaviour after Harrison left was unprofessional. Don't even bother trying to make a trade to a team that has a good coach, they won't want him.

couldn't have said it better. It's embarrassing watching a team that doesn't even think of seriously challenging such a starter.  Job security in the NFL is rare and usually for true franchise type players, not players such as this.

I'd like to see Henderson make the team over Justin Hunter. I kind of expected big things from Hunter but he's been disappointing. If Henderson can make an impact covering kicks as well as returning them I could see it. Hunter does not provide much in terms of ST and I doubt he will play much on offense. Henderson could be a fun gadget guy on offense eventually. Having Samuels and Henderson in there at the same time might be neat.

Is he teachable as a WR project?

Everyone is coachble.  How easy does he retain and apply the information taught is what separates players.  He spent 4-8 years or more and still struggles is a concern to me.  Yes there are coaches that teach easily and some guys are slow learners but sometimes guys should switch positions.

I'm sure I'm in the minority and understandably so, but honestly I don't think it'd be the worst thing to have a return specialist on the roster.  I hate seeing potential starters or impact players returning punts and kicks due to the danger involved.

Well the KR has pretty much been abolished but if he could make a "Devin Hester" type impact on PRs a case could be made. Of course he'd have to be MUCH MUCH better then the 2nd best PRr that is able to contribute in other ways. Then if he does become as good as Hester, teams can just kick it out of bounds. Now you have a useless player on the roster. Not poo pooing the idea. I just don't know how effective he could be as strictly a PR specialist.
