Mata’afa is barely bigger than Ben Gedeon. I’m also a big fan, and agree that he’s an incredibly interesting player. He’s unconventional, but really effective. It’s hard to know how to use him — I don’t think he’s athletic or long enough to survive as an edge rusher for Zimmer. He’s too small to play inside full time. And playing him off the LOS would kill his strength, which is that incredible quickness and leverage off the snap. I think Mata’afa would be best as a nickel pass rush specialist, lined up at DT. Get him in an A or B gap in a 3 point stance, and let him try to knife into the backfield before the play even gets started. Zimmer also likes to stunt the nickel DT (previously Robison), and Mata’afa is really good at stunts, because he runs such a tight arc with a low pad level. He should also be able to contribute on special teams, or take occasional rotation / depth snaps at DE. But he might dress mostly to play 10-15 plays per game in nickel and obvious passing situations, just to jump the snap and wreak havoc. Between Holmes and Aruna and Mata’afa, this is a very exciting group of new DL / pass rushers. How would Mata’Afa compare to Elvis Dumerville? vike daddy
Overview Holton Hill has the size, strength and athletic ability that teams covet at cornerback, but his maturity issues will force teams to have early conversations about whether or not he will be on their board. Hill made tremendous strides as a cover man this year and has the potential to take yet another big step forward once he trusts his footwork and becomes less grabby. His instincts and physicality in run support could allow teams to consider moving him to safety at some point. If Hill runs well at the Combine, that could override potential maturity issues. Sources Tell Us "He will fall further than he should because you can't trust him. He needed a clean, productive season to rehab the perception around him and I felt like he should have gone back to school. He can play. He's a Day 2 talent, but I doubt he goes there." -- NFC area scout https://www.nfl.com/prospects/holton-hill?id=32462018-0002-5601-0924-50e1467818a7
vike daddy
Hill joins a Vikings franchise that's only home to former All-Big 12 defensive lineman and member of the 2005 national championship squad Brian Robison, but Hill's defensive backs coach will be Jerry Gray. A College Football Hall of Fame defensive back, Gray is considered to be one of, if not the best defensive back in school history. Hill: “I’m extremely excited and honored to have the opportunity to go up to Minnesota and play for the Vikings. It’s a blessing and something I’ve always dreamed of to play in the NFL. To have such a good situation with my position coach being Coach Gray, who is a Texas legend, to be there with me every step of the way to help me develop and grow, it’s going to make it that much more special. I can’t wait to start this new journey of becoming a Viking.” https://247sports.com/college/texas/Bolt/Texas-Longhorns-Football-Holton-Hill-headed-to-Minnesota-Vikings-as-free-agent-in-2018-NFL-Draft-117769367
RpMc
For a tall corner, Hill is able to relatively easily sink his hips in and out of breaks and to make tackle in the strike zone. Very impressive athlete.

(Including the ones drafted/picked up) Well didn’t Spielman mention in his presser with Hughes he likes his ability to play corner back or safety? I don’t think he played it, but he probably could. I still think this team has a ton of faith in Sendejo and Ant.
RpMc
I think Sendejo is a fine player, I’m just thinking about cost.

Sure, except that he mostly lined up at DT and NT in college, and basically never off the LOS or outside the tackles.
