And to be fair, we don't win SB50 without DT, he was nails in that playoff run.   And he's been our most reliable WR since that extension.  He may no longer be worth the salary now, but that doesn't eliminate the greatness he's given us.    It's frustrating because he's dropped balls, but that comes with the territory - he's gotten a huge bad rap for being soft, when he's played every game, every season (sure he goes to the sidelines for some plays, but playing every game every season, that's an ironman feat that removes all doubt that he's not giving 100 percent each week).    Blaming his problems on his mom, that's overly reductionist - if anything, the wear and tear on his body is more to blame (as it's robbed him of that elite explosiveness and YAC home run ability he used to have).

The bolded is legit.  The SB50 stats is 13/23 for Peyton for 141yards..  CJ 90 yards rushing, Sanders 6 catches for 80 yards and DT 1 catch for 8 yards.  That offense was embarrassing itself for a year and a half.  Thank God we had the D and now it is back!

DT's size hurt him long term IMO. Guy's got such a big, wide frame --- a huge target to take a beating on. Similar story for Calvin Johnson and Dez Bryant. While guys like AJ and Julio are tall and well built but with a skinnier frame.

nah our defense won't be in the same atmosphere as that defense. But they could be good again if Chubb is legit.

Yea but Superbowl 48 DT was the only one who played well.  He earned his contract and letting a guy go who has been a model citizen and consummate professional is a bad look as far as bringing in other free agents.  Signing him was the right move, he just didn't age gracefully.  If we would've had competent QB play the last 2 years it would cast a better light on his entire career as well IMO

Yeah, that's fair - should have been clearer, he (and Sanders) didn't do much in SB50, but the few plays they made were all on them with PIT/NE & CAR.   Peyton was a corpse by then.   And he was an alpha in the other playoff years, no doubt.

Yeah so true about SB48.  If there was one game he could have actually left due to injury that was it.  He was the only guy who gave anything that game and he was actually hurt.  It's just a shame what happened to him after signing that contract.

Yup, DT's body type and play don't age nearly as well.  Dez is another (slightly different skill set, but same problem).   DT has declined, but I think we don't realize how much he still offers.  Still, he's too pricey now to keep with our cap situation, although I wouldn't be shocked to see Sanders go first.  One of them is going.

I think they were good for about a TD a game maybe two.  It always came on one of the first drives so it kept the opposing d's honest.  I mean they knew they were facing a pathetic offense but Peyton would show just enough life to keep the opposing d's honest.

Like the rest of you I’m still wondering why we didn’t draft an OT or IOL early. It’s a blatantly obvious position of need and without a major OL performance upgrade we’re going nowhere.

I’m pretty sure the answer lies with guys already on the roster. Here are the OT’s we never hear about.

Andreas Knappe: OT, 6’8”, 325lb, 26 yo UDFA from UC. Signed to the Colts PS Dec 4, 2017 after previous stops at Was. and Atl. Signed a reserve/future contract with Denver Jan 18, 2018.Interesting kid. Danish import that didn’t start playing football until he was 18. World class “team handball” (whatever that is) player. Not really much else to say. Started 2 years at U Conn.Whats unusual is Denver signing a 26 yo raw OT. Most teams wouldn’t waste a slot on a 26 yo project but we did. Must be something there.

Cyrus Kouandjio: OT, 6’7”, 322lb, 24 yo prospect from Alabama with an almost 36” arm length. Buffalo drafted him with the 12 pick (#44) in the 2014 draft. Signed with Denver Nov.8, 2017.Got all the physical tools but has never maximized them. Here’s a quote from WalterFootball’s scouting report. “If Kouandjio lands with a good offensive line coach and some talent around him, he could end up being a steal and a very good offensive lineman.”

Elijah Wilkinson: OT, 6’6”, 329lbs, 23 yo UDFA from U Mass. Signed with Denver May, 11, 2017.Started 33 games at RT in college. Fairly versatile and has played all OL positions except center. Was activated to the 53 man roster for the last 8 games of the season.

Anyway, not sure if any of these guys are the answer, same as our IOL PS players. They've all got potential, now it's time for our new OL Coaches to show what they've got. Hopefully they can develop a gem or two out of the bunch. They must think they can, otherwise we missed a great opportunity with this draft class.

Of all of them Cyrus seems the best...you cannot coach length.

This is courtesy of @TheRealMcCoy in the Draft Forum, but I thought this captured the point beautifully.  It's just a tool, but the smart FO's are using them to enhance their drafting & personnel evaluation.  No better argument.   Kubiak's influence, more analytics.  It's like a breath of fresh air here.
