Flux Draft Game (2018)

Recommended Posts

Each year I do this. Form a team of 25 with 1 player that was selected in round 1, 3 players that were selected in round 2, 5 players that were selected in round 3, 7 players that were selected in round 4, 5 players that were selected in round 5, 3 players that were selected in round 6, and 1 player from round 7. You may replace your 7th round choice with someone that went undrafted if you wish. You can do special teams, but it is not required.

Last year's game for reference.

Kinda tough this year because it feels like there were a lot of picks i didn't love in Rd4, where you build the meat of this team.  Plus, half that round was TEs.  So i leaned into it, just run two awesome TEs.  Ian Thomas as more of an inline guy, and Chris Herndon as a move guy who can play more or less as a jumbo WR/Slot guy anyway.  Just playing big boy ball with big arm Joshy Boucher.  B|

Offensively we play Bully Ball as evidenced by my Power blocking scheme linemen.  Mailata is just a guy i like but hes got some Massive size and Ball handling skills so i think we could work him in on occasion with the ball(its pretty tough to tackle a 340 pound guy).

QB: Kyle Lauletta(R4)

RB Saquan Barkley(R1)

WR: Anthony Miller(R2)

WR: Equanimeous St. Brown(R6)

WR: Desean Hamilton(R4)

TE: Chris Herndon(R4)

DE: Marquis Haynes(R4)

SLB: Lorenzo Carter(R3)

ILB: Josey Jewell(R4)

WLB: Shaquem Griffen(R5)

LCB: Nick Nelson(R4)

RCB: Anthony Averett(R4)

SCB: Parry Nickerson(R6)

FS: Justin Reid(R3)

SS: Ronnie Harrison(R3)

Bolded are my Starters.

Haynes is a pass rush specialist with Hubbard kicking inside taking Settle out.  on nickle depending on the matching Carter or Jewell will come out.

Any team without the best QB in recent memory is doing it wrong. Two backs for every situation. Athletes on the perimeter. Best OL I could construct, surprised myself with two Rams.

QB: Baker Mayfield r1
HB: Bo Scarbrough r7
3RB: Nyheim Hines r4
WR: Antonio Callaway r4
WR: Justin Watson r5
WR: Dylan Cantrell r6
TE: Mike Gisicki r2
LT: Joseph Noteboom r3
LG: Mason Cole r3
C: Brian Allen r4
RG: Scott Quessenberry r5
RT Greg Senat r6

Made to defend the pass. Will struggle against the run, but with this offense I can live with it. Sweat comes in the must-pass sub package. Struggled to find a nickel, so big Dane will be a hybrid.

DE: Maurice Hurst r5
NT: Sebastian Joseph r6
DE: Rasheem Green r3
ROLB: Lorenzo Carter r3
ILB: Genard Avery r5
ILB: Shaquem Griffin r5
LOLB: Harold Landry r2
RUSH: Josh Sweat r4
CB: Josh Jackson r2
CB: Avonte Maddox r4
CB/S: Dane Cruikshank r5
FS: Troy Apke r4
SS: Justin Reid r3

Offense--Old School High School Power Run/Play Action Pass

  1. QB--Luke Falk, Tenn (6)
  2. RB--John Kelly, Rams (6)
  3. FB--Nick Bawden, Lions (7)
  4. LT--Geron Christian, Wash (3)
  5. LG-Quentin Nelson, Colts (1)
  6. C-James Daniels, Chicago (2)
  7. RG-Will Hernandez, NYG (2)
  8. RT--Joe Noteboom, Rams (3)
  9. TE(y)--Dalton Schultz, Dallas (4)
  10. TE(x)--Will Dissly, Seattle (4)
  11. WR(z)--Justin Watson, Bucs (5)
  12. (Subpackage WRx)--Daurice Fountain, Colts (5)
  13. (Subpackage WRy)--Deon Cain, Colts (6)

Thoughts--Falk can work the short passes to Schultz and Watson in the base set, and also do some complex routes when we have to go in subpackage.  Bread and butter will be pounding the rock with Kelly behind GCG combo of 1+2 rounders.  No backup RB means that Kelly must tote the mail a lot.  If I had a 26th slot, I would have taken an UDFA like Wadley or Roc Thomas of Jax State.

Defense--Base 4-2-5 nickel

  1. DT--Nathan Shepherd, Jets (3)
  2. DT--BJ Hill, NYG (3)
  3. DE--Sam Hubbard, Bengals (3)
  4. DE--Andrew Brown, Bengals (5)
  5. MLB--Josey Jewell, Broncos (4)
  6. MLB--Micah Kizer, Rams (5)
  7. CB--Anthony Averett, Ravens (4)
  8. CB--Nick Nelson, Raiders (4)
  9. NB--Avonte Maddox, Eagles (4)
  10. S--Justin Reid, Texans (3)
  11. S--Kyzir White, Chargers (4)
  12. (Subpackage Goalline)--Tim Settle, Wash (5)

Thoughts--Stop the run.  High picks on Dline guys to stop the run, and filing backers to scrape and make tackles.  Back end has elite safties and good CB with a slot nickel that can come an blitz as needed.  Will get hit with the big pass but hopefully can play bend but don't break defense.

Taking a RB early in the first round is a waste of draft capital.

ask the Rams if they regret taking gurley or the Cowboys taking elliot or even the jags taking Fournette. gurantee you they dont regret it.  RBs are becoming more valued and Barkley is the best Back to probably come out since AP

Yes, we'd have regretted taking Gurley if it was at the expense of a franchise QB and we didn't have one.

i know i dont regret picking Fournette over watson.  i mean Between the defense and fournette thats what carried the jags to the playoffs and getting relatively good bortles.

Yea, the defense and Fournette had to carry the Jaguars because Bortles was mediocre. Combining a franchise QB with a top defense = Super Bowls.

you dont need a Franchise QB to win a Superbowl. History has proven that.

also to boot whos to say any of the qbs in this class are true franchise prospects. every single 1 has a flaw.
