what this draft means to ME

Three points:

1. Two steps in the NFL is an eternity. Chubb on the other side and the QB gets hit, often.

2. Drafting for need over ability is why Cleveland was 0-16 last year.

3. The Packers weren't within 4 steps of the QB on far too many rush situations. WE have no Myles Garrett or anything close to it.

3 is not accurate and very much the case to a degree for us as the Browns. Yes our PR lacked but CM was around the QB allot last year and missed on allot cause we can't cover to save our lives. How fast does the pass rush need to be. If folks paid attention to our past and any history for that matter the Packers 2010 champions had Frank Zombo opposite CM3 who was only in his second year. We had Jenkins who put on a nice inside rush but everyone hates on. What we did have though was Woodson, Collins, Williams and Peprah. Peps was the in the box safety and well sucked but the other 3 were all great and playing it at the time. What came first pass rush or coverage?

This draft means we're going to need to see Nick Perry and CM3 play upwards of 65ish % of the defensive snaps for all 16 games.  If either misses time we're going to have major issues on the edge given the terrible depth we have at the position.  Behind our starters we don't have an OLB on the roster who's constantly shown that he's anything better than a ST player.  Hopefully Kyler Fackrell and Vince Biegel are the quality contributors on defense that management is betting them too be.  They obviously feel like we've got a substantial amount of talent at the position given the draft.

Fackrell isn't awful. He'll fill in nicely.  A healthy Biegel in his second year will show improvement.  Pettine is confident he can scheme pressure and must be confident in the guys he has.  Who are we to doubt that.

Gilbert is better than both of them or at least he was last year when he got a chance to play. Something tells me Kendall Donnnerson isn't going to be the next coming of CMIII.

I'd be shocked if we don't add someone after June 1st cuts or b4.

The really thin areas are WR (if Adams goes down), QB (as we have already seen) and TE (without Graham). OLB, while in real need of another starter-quality guy, is actually rather better off than the above three.

What draft shows me is Gute is going to be a fine GM.  The Packers made the right choice.

Certainly showed that he's willing to wheel and deal.  What other teams now know is that if they are looking for a trading partner, you can call GB and have a conversation.  That is a good thing!
