bucsfan333
There has been a lot of talk about getting rid of it. But it sounds like it'll survive at least one more year.
TXsteeler
The way the league is going they will get rid of it soon enough.

bucsfan333
Once there's a way to replace the onside kick, it sounds like kickoffs are donezo. The NFL is already trying to make it more enticing for teams to take the ball at the 25 as it is. The next step is to just take the ball at the 25. Yeah, they want to make it safer...but they have literally no alternative for the onside kick. It's a low percentage play, but it's the only play that has hope for a team that's behind and out of TO's to kick off. Ironically, it's probably the most dangerous play, from a safety perspective. Tough spot for the league, I would be hard $ that fair catch to 25 yd line rule comes in. The fact that the Pats are the team that do this really well will no doubt get some reaction on the motivations lol.

Do you mean making it (marginally) safer so parents don't stop their kids from playing football, reducing the amount of kids playing football through to college, ultimately slowly killing off the NFL? LETSGOBROWNIES
The option for onside kicks is pretty simple imo, you either give the other team the ball at the 25 or you have the option to onside kick. They’d have to spell out what constitutes an onside kick (ball can’t travel further than x number of yards, etc), but that’s about it. Sure beats the hell out of the PAT-commercial-kickoff-commercial sequence that comes with every score.

I mean keeping it the aggressive, contact sport it's been for decades. The one the athletes willingly sign up to play and make millions of dollars to do so under their own volition. You sign a waiver, you take your chances.

So we wouldn't have the chance at the Saints-Colts SB second half kickoff with a surprise onside. This is why I'm not a fan of taking away the kickoff and making a team declare an onside. You are taking away strategy and surprise.

ianlewis16
Get rid of them already. Onside kick or have it at the 25. Done. I can live without kickoffs
