Does anybody else think Deshaun Watson is being crowned prematurely?

I never got the Luck Hype , he was crowned the GOAT / Next coming of Christ before he ever threw a pass in the NFL. He had talent sure , but so does everyone that is drafted . You just never know how that will in the NFL compared to college level.  At same time you can start to see what a QB will become or how good he can be within 2 -3 years with some. You have to also factor in the team they play for and the talent around them.

What's not to "get" with the Luck hype though?

The guy came in and took a mostly trash roster to the playoffs, and within a few PSI of knocking off the perennial favourite Patriots.  The garbage surrounding cast really caught up with him, especially on the the OLine, and as his health has failed...he's no longer looked at as the same QB he was.  But when healthy, he came in and did pretty much exactly what you'd optimistically hope for from a QB.

It's a valid lesson in not getting too high on a QB being the next "long-term star" before they actually get there.  Injury and all manner of other factors can always strike.  But as a player on the field, Luck had proven more than enough to suggest he'd be one of the next top QBs for a lot of years if he hadn't been catastrophically injured playing behind a porous OLine that got him killed to death.

Luck and RGIII both fizzled because of injuries...but in completely different ways.  RGIII had some knee injuries that sapped some of his mobility as a runner, and was no longer able to cope as an NFL passer.  It exposed the weaknesses that were already there, but masked by his running ability.  With Luck...his quarterbacking arm got destroyed.  That's not about a football passer being "figured out" when losing a peripheral skill like "running"...it's about him literally no longer being able to throw a full weight football because his arm is so janked up.

I'm not at all surprised with the Luck hype. Here was a QB with prototypical size, a great arm, could read defenses, could adjust everything pre snap, could diagnose blitzes, could react to blitzes, could make most throws, had wheels and strength to escape pocket and pick up yards with his legs, had a great throw-on-the-run, and was smart as hell. He was what the NFL dreams of.

If he's being crowned already, yes, it's too soon.  While he was good at Clemson his struggles with fumbling and some of his inaccuracy left question marks.  My fear is he's going to be another Cam Newton.  A guy who can run and sling it but never be a guy who you can rely on to put the pressure on his shoulders and help carry the team to a Lombardi.  He is good enough to get you wins, not good enough to win championships under the big lights, but we will soon find out one way or another.  Cam Newton looked like a star early on, he is rapidly falling out of the spot light.
