Am I crazy to not want Bell? He sat out an entire year, already has been suspended once so his next one will be even longer, he has been ridden practically into the ground by the Steelers and 3 of his last 4 seasons his touch totals were: 370-330-400 and the 1 in between was injury. He isn't going to sign for a 2-3 year deal, he wants a long one and we shouldn't pay it. I'm all for going after Haskins and 100% for not going after Foles but Bell isn't the answer.

i think u could get bell commited to a shorter 2-3 year deal if its like fully guranteed for above the tag amount.

this isnt Porn. height means very little.  at 6 foot 2 hes no smaller then guys Coughlin has had like Mark Brunell and David Garrard.   the most important thing to know about the qb is where is his release point.  i mean bortles is 6 foot 5 and he has more balls batted then any one in the league.

Think I read D-Roc was talking about Murray regarding height.

who cares how tall he is.  hes got great athletic abilities and has a great arm.   call it whatever u want but id pick him as my 2nd choice at qb and its more of a toss up/pick'em if murray didnt have the baseball concerns.

heres my take on our whole corner position.

Ramsey-keep.

Bouye-cut/trade after ramsey extension because paying atleast 30 million for 2 corners probably doesnt work well for the rest of the team.

Hayden-keep him until his guranteed money is low then cut. seemed like a good fit but i dont like spending 5 million on a guy who isnt being a big playmaker from the slot.

Meeks-keep as our future bouye replacement. he seemed really good in his 1 healthy game.

Herndon-probably a future slot corner for us.

FA: Patmon would be a good idea to resign this year but at that point your keeping 6 corners on the roster but his ability to play inside and out cant be understated.

i really dont think we need to spend a premium pick on corner at this time.  better off using it for a 2nd true edge guy, a DT, maybe ILB(white seems like a legit stud ILB built for the modern NFL but would likely mean we are getting rid of telvin and his terrible contract or taking jacobs out the lineup.  the best Idea for our 1st round pick is to get Haskins but i wouldnt be terribley upset if we picked Murray even tho its a huge gamble.

I think you're probably right, in that after this year a Jalen extension probably means moving on from Bouye.  Sucks, 'cause i'd really like to keep this top tier corner duo together as long as possible.  Just not sure how they can afford to field a whole team while paying two CBs that much.  The dead money on Bouye is easier to swallow at that point too.

So at some point (probably 2020, maybe 2021) we'll need to have a second legit CB to line up opposite Jalen (or vice versa if things to to **** with Jalen's negotiations).  Just don't really see it as something to spend a Top-10 pick on this year where we should still have that elite duo intact.  It'd be a Top-10 pick on a guy who might not even really see the field if guys stay healthy.  It's one thing spending on the future with a late 1st or a 3rd like Taven/Ronnie...a Top-10 pick though, ought to bring in a plug in starter imo.  So unless something happens with Jalen or Bouye for this season, i don't really get where it's "a need" as that mock commentary suggests.

I do think it'd be savvy to spend at least a pick somewhere on a guy to develop.  A handful of snaps here and there like Meeks doesn't give me much confidence.  We've had more than a few guys post some promising early results only to disappear completely.  Ya'll remember Demetrius McCray?  xD  But it seems more like a "depth/development" sort of need.  Especially on a team with a lot of other holes like this one.

I haven't gone as deep on CBs as some positions yet, and the combine will help sift through some wheat and chaff...but i've already come across a bundle littered through different value ranges that i like.  Seems like a good class to grab a guy.  Lots of good sized CBs who can play, and might be nice fits schematically.

It's kind of a shame that Hayden's dead money is prohibitive this year, 'cause that'd be some precious cap space they could free up by leaning on a stable of cheaper guys we have, and maybe a pick.  He's been pretty good when he plays, but don't really know that he's been worth the pricetag on the whole.

The guy out of Penn State. Amani Oruwariye kinda reminds me of Colvin a bit, and looks to me like he'd be an outstanding nickel corner for our scheme.  Would be sweet if we could replace Hayden's money with that, but since we can't...idk.

Julian Love at ND, and Trayvon Mullen at Clemson have stood out to me early too.  Even Kris Boyd who has some limitations, seems interesting as a later developmental project type.

Just seems like a lot of other positions should take clear precedence, unless something actually happens with trading one of our elite starting CB duo or something.

what if we used all this "foles money" and used it on Bell, trade fournette and w,e to go grab haskins. better offense am i right?

I can see why it got thrown out there as a thought.  Bell can be one of the best and most versatile backs in the league.  If you're gonna spend huge on a RB, might as well make it a good one.  Honestly...he's by far the best offensive "weapon" set to hit the market this year.  But i don't really like the idea.

It's just way too much to invest in a RB.

-It's not a position noted for longevity.

-It's also a position where you can find "decent or better" guys under all sorts of rocks.

-It's a spot where you can often get as much or more "return on investment" out of spending that premium picks/money on building a monster OLine.  That way, you can trot all sorts of different backs out there and get good results, which also means less stake invested in one specific guy at a RB position that consistently gets beat up.  In this day and age, i probably want a rotation of "good or better" guys in a stable, rather than one "elite" guy.  Especially if you factor in spending on a monster OLine vs a spottier one built with less premium assets.

Plus, while Bell brings a high-end receiving component as a running back...he's still not going to make our outside WRs and TE groups not suck.  Which is where the quality of those outside guys and not having an AB or whoever out there, probably hurts a guy like Bell's ability to be "elite" as a receiving back too.  I don't think you're going to just plug him in anywhere and get that same result as the Steelers situation.  The Steelers with Bell did a ton of "passing to set up the run".  If your receiving corps still isn't very good, trying to just feed a RB as a receiver all day instead is going to start to look like a real checkdown slogfest.

Build a good offense with a good OLine, multiple weapons, and a QB who can spread the ball around...and you can make a lot of RBs look pretty good.  The Patriots do it all the time.  The Chiefs kinda illustrated that when they barely skipped a beat losing Hunt.  Probably most telling...the Steelers showed they didn't really lose a whole massive ton with Bell sitting himself in timeout for the season.

I think people are being way too quick to give up on Fournette anyway.  2017, he was the horse that did a large share of carrying a pathetic offense to the playoffs.  Bolster the OLine, get another receiving weapon...and a QB who doesn't suck quite as hard as Bortles, and i think you've got a really solid starting RB there.  Obviously need to shore up depth at RB somewhere if Yeldon walks as FA and Hyde is cut as expected.  But the draft seems like the place to do that, not spending QB money on a RB in FA.

Yeah.  Have to assume that was the message.  I don't see anything remotely an "issue" with Haskins height, or where anyone other than that Stephen A Smith guy would get that from.  Or Jones/Lock or most of the next "tier" of guys even.  Rypien and maybe a few of the late round guys is the only one where it'd even be a valid discussion point imo.  Other than Kyler Murray of course...who is not just "short for a QB"...he's "short for an NFL player".  Well beyond the fringes of NFL QB height ranges.  He's into outlier among the outliers territory.

And it's a worthy concern imo.  The whole deal, beyond just height though.  All the stuff that comes along with that.

Another option. That's always a good thing, imo.

I’m all for it but now they are saying Kyler could go as early as 4 to the Raiders. Even though Rosen was drafted 1st round last yr Kingsbury has been on record saying he would take Murray number 1 overall.

Yeah...wonder what would happen with Rosen?

I'm still a fan.
