hes a guy who needs to be schemed into chances either vs guards/Centers or against TE's/RBs.  he rarely wins vs Right tackles unless they are like Marshall Newhouse bad

I would think that going up as a 4-3 OLB you'd be more often than not matched against TE's in the run game, and Seattle does a good job with creating mismatches with their pass rush.

fowlers not quick enough to be a 4-3 OLB.  Poz was fairly bad in coverage last year because of his Diminished Athleticism but Fowlers got no real quickness or experience going into coverage.

so more then likely your gonna end up rushing him every down from the spot which at some point a team will realize it and have their oline slant and let their RT take him on.

i Could see the browns going after one of these guys as a 3rd down pass rush specialist.

this makes sense if the browns have the cap space as they should.  Browns could add better  Edge rusher, I thought they would hav win the draft.

He took a decent step last year, and was put in a much better situation where he can be a rotational guy with lots of other quality rushers around to help isolate him in solid opportunities to get to the QB.  I don't know that he needs to be "schemed up" so much as you just want him rushing in obvious passing situations against the pass pro weaker RTs and Gs typical of the NFL.  If we're calling that "schemed up" then sure.  But last year he actually made good on a decent amount of those opportunities, and can be disruptive even when he's just crashing into RTs half the time trying to bullrush them.  He's not like Andre Branch bad in that regard.  And some team gave Andre Branch almost $10M per year or whatever it was.

They'd have been looking at $14M on Fowler though, and that's just way too much.  He might still get it on the open market, but it's not going to be a big overpay if he does.  A team like the Jaguars can't afford to be spending $14M on its 5th or 6th best DLineman.  Not with the raises coming to actually key players like Ngakoue and Jalen Ramsey.

He's a good player, think he should have no trouble finding another team.

Just because they declined the option, doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be back. They just didn’t want him back at a ridiculous 14 million$ which is understandable.

And given their 2019 cap situation, they are likely going to pursue a cap-friendly 2019 hit in any multi-year deal.

14 million is alot of Dough for a Backup who isnt as good as a pass rusher you think with his 8 sacks.  he has to be schemed into pressures and go from there.

it doesnt help we were a Projected 49 million over the cap before this move.

I agree with your post, but up you one with Kevin White.

5th year option would have been for just over $13 million. The guy has played only 5 games to date, and has less TD catches than Andy Dalton...

Arent we trying to make a run now? Definitely wouldnt want to deal him in conference

Jags definitely are but I was under the impression that Jags have plenty of good pass rushers and maybe could use a pick for next year to get a cheap replacement.

Fair enough but dealing him to a team in contention seems silly especially in the AFC

:o how ya gonna fix that?

We’re at 35 over now. The cap is gonna rise ~$5M. We’ll roll over $16M. We’ll be at less than $15 over just by filing paperwork. Then we’ll cut some aging vets who have their contracts structured to have outs this year. We’ll have 10M+ to play with once Free Agency rolls around if we want.

declining the option got us down to 35.  we have a few guys who have 0 Dead Cap whom we kinda have Replacements for.

Cutting Dareus saves us like 11 million. we dont really have a great replacement for him but we still have Abry Jones(he could be cut but at 4 million its okay) as well as Eli Anoku(he was a Waiver claim last year).

Barry Church can be replaced with Ronnie Harrison next year.

Jeremy Parnell can be replaced by Will Richardson(our 4th round pick).

that gets us 23 million Appx off the cap with 0 Dead Money.

then we have to make Decisions on Guys Like Calias Campbell and Malik Jackson but ideally i would like to keep both of them and buy an extra year for Taven Bryan to develop.
