Texans pick up 5th year option on CB Kevin Johnson

I think all of us can agree that Johnson was horrible last season - arguably the worst CB in the NFL per PFF. This being said, many of us wonder if it had more to do with the broken scheme deployed by Mike Vrabel, the collection of injuries suffered by Johnson - or both.

Given Johnson's injury history, I question this move - 5th year options come with zero guaranteed money, so you could cut Johnson next off-season with no cap hit, but the option can become fully guaranteed in the event of injury (which is pretty much standard for Johnson every season).

We'll see where this goes...

I consider this a prove it deal for him.  Make or break this upcoming season. If he isn't good then cut him.  I'm glad we brought Colvin and kind of resigned Joseph so he can get some competition.  Actually the reason we probably brought Joseph back is because Johnson hasn't proven himself yet to where he should be the starter.

We have some options in the secondary. We can move Honey badger into the slot and play Hal and Reid at safety. We can move Colvin in the slot or out wide. Johnson and Jackson can both be nickle and Dime backs. Lots of options

but we lack a true shut down corner. Bouye did that for us, and it allowed us to focus on the rest of the field. We need someone to step up and be that guy. Johnson did not know what he was doing last year, but our coaches felt he was worthy of the chance. Maybe he can still get to that potential, but its probably just another Rick Smith/ BOB not knowing that the heck they are doing moment.

I want to be excited for the potential of this team, but we will be out coached 90% of the time, and that is hard to overcome.
