Solid number choices.

49 is a hideous number, but I am sure he will change when something opens up. The Bears should really "un-retire" some numbers.

I don't hate 49, especially for an OLB, I think 45 is worse for an ILB

Someone please take 55 away from Grasu.

Wasting a sick LB number on a soon to be cut center sucks.

It’s just a number. If it was me I’d want a number I could make people remember all on my own anyway. I wouldn’t want to be the LB coming to the Chicago Bears wearing Lance Briggs’ jersey. I’d want a number that 15 years from now is one people only associate with me.

Yeah, I'm sure those player's ancestors would love that. Maybe we should start removing busts from Canton while we're at it.

That's not the point. It wouldn't be disrespectful. What's disrespectful are not being able to retire the numbers that deserve it (55, 54, 23) because there are already too many and retiring anymore would be impossible. Remember, Singletary's, Dent's and Hampton's numbers aren't retired yet due to this issue.

EDIT: I googled the idea and someone wrote an article about it a few backs back on WCG. Here it is: https://www.windycitygridiron.com/2018/4/17/17241820/its-time-for-the-bears-to-start-unretiring-numbers-halas-payton-grange-hewitt-nagurski-sayers-butkus

I doubt their ancestors will even know tbh

ancestor - a person, typically one more remote than a grandparent, from whom one is descended
