2019 Mock Drafts

Recommended Posts

Based on a mock i did 'round here...this is what i ended up with.  Obviously not going for "what Tom and Dave would do" here.  Just going for...trying to fix this team and come back strong, with some stuff for the future.

Started with a trade for Ryan Tannehill, who i think is a competent middling starting QB when healthy.  Wanted to make sure i wasn't painted into a corner drafting a QB at 7.  Traded a 6th rounder and swapped back a few picks in the 4th round for him, felt that was fair.  Really didn't want to get into the Nick Foles FA bidding market in this mock...which would've cost me $25M+ and i honestly wouldn't have got him because i wouldn't have bid that high initially.

Spent the rest of FA trying to pick and choose a few decent fringe starters to fill out the roster, and mostly focused on retaining depth at important spots.

FA:

Jesse James: not a gamebreaker, but he's a solid all-around TE who can do whatever you want out of the spot.  Locks down a no fuss 1/2 rung of your TE depth chart for years.

Tyler Kroft: same as above, basically.  Just a solid #2a/1b caliber TE in the right situation.  Got myself two starters there who are both better than anyone the Jaguars have had at TE since...back when Marcedes was still actually good.

Brent Urban: not a flashy player, but a guy i think could play some real snaps at DT and be a better run defender than Taven.  He played ~half the snaps in Baltimore, he can handle at least that in rotation and i think a 4-3 front is probably a better fit for him anyway.

Derrick Morgan: need a Dante Fowler replacement, and outside the draft, i think this is about as good as it gets.  Only a year removed from half a dozen+ sacks...he's a guy who can still get after it in the right role.  Give him the "easy" schemed up obvious pass rush scenarios of Fowler's role, and i think he's still got enough gas left in the tank to get home and finish a bundle of them.

Isaiah Crowell: just spending some bucks on a guy who can be a fantastic counterpunch to Fournette, but also carry a load if Fournette continues to be unreliable health-wise.  Nobody is getting hyped about Crowell as their starting RB, but he can do a little bit of everything brings something like the right tone, and you could do a lot worse as an RB2.  He can be a serviceable RB1 if he has to.

Gerald Hodges: don't really need another LBer, especially a SAM type...but he was cheap as heck and better than some of the other randoms we keep around as depth LBers.  Also probably a consideration that could save some extra money replacing Larentree McCrayCray as a STer if the cap gets tight.

Carlos Henderson: receiver i liked a lot in the draft who hasn't quite found it yet.  Either it works out, or it doesn't...but he's got all sorts of YAC ability and is at the very least, a real good PR/KR candidate.

Sylvester Williams: reclamation project type pickup.  He can be disruptive when motivated and insulated by better DLinemen in the past.  Hope to stoke that fire again and see what happens.

Tavon Austin: kinda a throwaway contract, just making sure i had a guy to return some kicks and be a "weapon" if nothing else materialized in the draft.  But hey...he's got a skillset.

Lil'Jordan did time out particularly slow, but he doesn't look tragically slow on tape, for the type of receiver he is.  And he'd certainly fit the bill as a big "forgiving" target for a QB like Foles to toss it up to.  He's basically a skinny TE playing WR.  Gary Jennings is probably better, but he's also kind of a "more of the same" as what we've got.  But either way.

I don't really get the hate for Little.  He's got some uneven bits of tape, but the good tape is really good and he's plenty athletic where it matters.  He's a better and smoother athlete than our current starting LT.  He moves very well for a big man like that.

I certainly don't think Dre'Mont Jones as a first round talent is that laughable.  I wouldn't bat an eye if he goes there.  Plenty of rankings and mocks have him in that range.  A bit of "one year wonder" to him, but he's disruptive, productive, and has a decent frame and athletic profile to build on as a pro.  After the first 15 or so picks, the 1st round is probably gonna turn into a bigtime crapshoot anyway.
