Getting Lee and ASJ back is nothing. Lee is a slot receiver that gets the production of a middle #2. ASJ is - on his career best season - a middling starting TE. Dede and Cole are a #3 and #4. And Chark is no better than a #5 right now.

Assuming everyone comes back from injury with no issues or hiccups, we still have no #1 WR and we have still have no depth to handle injuries, which is precisely why this season is in the toilet now.

our staff and Front Office dont value WRs that much. ie signing moncrief and lee for about what robinson got, that made it clear they dont like paying premium prices for wr production.  i think our wrs will grow some from our WR coach but until blake is gone and we have a QB who doesnt throw ducks or uncatchable passes we will have problems with drops.  ASJn its hard to say since the entire year hes been dogged by his groin injury.  next year will be a we will see but i do agree that our TE depth should be better but unfortunately our TE spot atleast has 2 guys locked in for the year while our OL has guys like Josh Wells(key Backup), AJ Cann(Starting RG), Tyler Shatley(Backup C/G) along with a potential cut of Parnell along with the unproven Will Richardson.

that makes us down 2 Tackles and 2 interior guys not to mention having to count on cam robinson coming back and being better then he was. we need to keep the QB up right and we need our RBs to stay healthy.

Dave gave a big contract to Allen Hurns. Coughlin gave big contracts to Jimmy Smith, Keenean McCardell and Plaxico Burress.

Caldwell has claimed he was big on the Julio Jones trade that Atlanta made in his final year working there. Coughlin has spent first rounders on R. Jay Soward, Hakeem Nicks, and Odell Beckham. It also leaked out of the building that if Bortles was taken, they were going to take a WR in the first round and trade up to get a QB at 32; they had a tentative trade with Atlanta to trade down, and one with Seattle to trade up.

Between Coughlin and Caldwell, since 2005, they've drafted Sinorice Moss, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham, Ramses Barden, Jerrel Jernigan, Reuben Randel, Marqise Lee, Allen Robinson, and D. J. Chark in the 2nd or 3rd round. On average, that's one every other year between the two of them.

They clearly do like drafting wide receivers in the first three rounds.

they might like drafting WRs early but they only really like them on rookie deals.  we resign lee to give us a potentially reliable vet wr and moncrief was a 1 year gamble cuz they were high on him with the analytics.   caldwell gave hurns that extension because 1) we had a ton of cash and 2) he looked like he was gonna keep playing good as a number 2 wr.

we probably arent drafting a WR early this draft.  we have Bigger needs to deal with then adding a WR early.

the biggest Need we have is QB and if 1 is of value i would take him round 1, followed by a RT if neither of those 2 are at good value i would look at probably going DL cuz this draft is stacked at DL and lets face it by 2 years our DL is gonna have some big changes because Dareus is likely gone unless hes taking a significant pay cut(sorry but 11 million for a 2 down guy is rich) along with jackson and campbell also being paid massive bucks. after that i would say we need 2-3 OL depending on who we resign(cann, Wells, Shatley) or keep(parnell).  Parnell has regressed alot and i wouldnt feel real comfortable keeping parnell on that contract when we need to start getting our cash together to keep ramsey, ngakoue, jack.

what im saying is we have bigger more pressing needs then adding a WR early. late rounds sure take a shot on someone by all means but im not gonna take some WR when 1) we want to be a Smash mouth team and 2) we lack quality OL.

if u look at their track record of drafting WRs that list is actually quite terrible.   ill give them robinson and lee cuz they both are starters but moss, manningham, randle were Jags at best and smith was good for a bit till he got hurt. barden and jernigan did 0 in the NFL.

You could be right that we don't value re-signing premium #1 WRs... but, I mean, we really haven't had an opportunity to test that theory yet. 1) Allen Robinson didn't want to come back and 2) he isn't worth elite money. Heck, looking at stats just now (and yes, stats don't tell the whole story), Dede Westbrook is outplaying him this year.

What does this have to do with drafting a receiver?

And also, of course he paid him because he thought he was going to produce. What does that have to do with anything?

Wide receiver is - at worst - the third biggest need on the team, and it’s still a massive need. Teams don’t draft players based on the need order. The third biggest need could easily be the first position addressed. For most of those picks brought up, Wide Receiver wasn’t the biggest need. Outside of Lee and Chark, Wide Receiver was never the prominent need when they targeted one early. Hell, all three times Coughlin has taken a WR in the first, there were far bigger needs on the team at the time. Didn’t stop him from doing it.

What does this have to do with whether or not they’ll draft a player? Them drafting a lot of crap doesn’t mean they’ll stop drafting there; it only means that they’re likely to be drafting more crap when they do.

Does the fact that Caldwell has drafted three trash QBs mean that he won’t take a QB again?

there is 0 room on the team for a guy like Turpin who was charged with assult with bodily harm to a family member and subsequently kicked of TCU's team not mention ive seen bigger bowel movement then him as hes 5 foot 8 maybe 160 pounds soaking wet.

I mean, we drafted Dede Westbrook so obviously we believe in second chances.

yes but why on earth would u draft a 5 foot 8 160 pound WR who has a known recent character issue IE happening this year while dedes were a few years before the draft and obviously hes grown up and learned from it.
