I suspect in some of these overstatements, the glut got relieved by injury. (Janis and Abby rookie year?) Still a pretty significant chance that injury rather than Gute will end up doing the needed trimming. Not that I recall.

packfanfb
Adams continuing to do it. Looney coming on. Fackrell and Biegel are beginning to look like twins.
craig
Yeah, Biegel has been kind of a standard assumption for 53-man predictions. But I wonder if he might not be a PS guy.

If Odom or Donnerson show anything over the final 3 weeks, you'd have to consider them too over Biegel.

IMO if they had truly seen him as a back at that point, they wouldn’t have carried 4 other backs on the roster.

GB viewed Monty more as a RB than WR at that point Special circumstances impact every year, though, some now as well. Cobb had injury issues last year. (And Adams too, given all the concussions) GB views Davis more as a ST specialist than as a WR (Note: Actually GB did NOT view Monty as more a RB than WR during camp 16. That only became a serious thing after all the other RB got hurt. I don't think he practice RB at all in camp that year?) Drafting three WR in a single draft is unusual. Allison and Cobb are both expiring, and neither looks to be sure bets to be worth extending. Having 3 rookie WR all look like they have significant NFL talent has never happened; much less 4, counting Kumerow. (I know I know, the argument is that this is just the same old unsophisticated song that was sung about Borel and Dupre and McCaffrey; but I think this group really is different. I know I never sang that song for those guys.) As in that year, when they knew they'd had WR problems and weren't sure how it would resolve, they kept volume, not knowing how it would work out. (Adams did, others didn't). I think that "quantity gives quality" approach will be applied again with MVS/Moore/EQ. So I'm reasoning that just as they kept 7 under some circumstances two years ago, the circumstances this year may be as or even more conducive? The one thing that stands out to me is that there are 3 "starting" WRs with Nelson, Cobb, and Adams. You have a former 3rd round pick in Ty Montgomery. And your "5-7" WRs all offer ST value. That's a significant difference than this year when we have 2 "starting" WRs in Cobb and Adams, a suspected starter in Allison, 3 developmental WRs, and a ST WR. He was forced into that role due to injuries to Lacy and Starks. They tried a few different guys out (one at cut-down from the Vikes) throughout the year but settled on Monty late in the season. If you compare the ceilings of Abby, Monty, Janis and Davis to Kumero, MVS, EQ and Moore it isn't hard to come to the conclusion that 7 WR would be the prudent decision to make this year. Cheech
I'm not going to post his next 15 tweets, but you should check them out. All about the first PS game. This guy knows his stuff because he knows the game well and studies the tape before making any knee-jerk comments. Good: Day, Burks, Josh Jackson, Spriggs Bad: Fackrell, House/Brice play, McCray, and a few others. https://twitter.com/The_Green_Gold/status/1028709654799544321

Jarrett Bush gave us defensive snaps in the past, so it wasn't a guy they had no intention of playing there. As for Janis, I think the upside that Janis had was tempting to keep around and his ST value was enough to justify that. Plus, we're talking about a BUNCH of returns as opposed to a handful of punt returns.
