you gotta be really bad if you cannot have a somewhat decent season in the Saints scheme and Brees throwing you the ball.

That's the problem, they weren't throwing him the ball.  He was an afterthought in the Saints' offense.

He had 13.5 yd/rec average, good for 5th among tight ends.  When he gets the ball he delivers.   Hard to be productive on 30 targets...

Take a closer look - almost all of his work happens when teams are laying off - garbage time accounted for all of his TD's, and even in the WAS comeback game, WAS's D was in prevent mode - and Fleener's 5 catches all came then.

He's a guy who can't block, won't block, and doesn't separate.  He doesn't run great routes, and he's not a ballfighter.  He gets open when D's are in zone, or worse, full prevent.   When he's in the game, you can't run to his side, so the D knows to cheat the other way for run, or just play pass.

And all of that is before we discuss the concussion risk.    Even at vet-min, he's probably a lost cause.    A team who needs a move TE (DAL?) makes the most sense, but even then, I agree that Mercedes Lewis would be a far better target.    The description below does not sound like a guy who's recovered from his latest concussion. This far out is a terrible sign.   Pass.

Doyle, Ebron and I'd go Erik Swoope ahead of Fleener.   Really don't see it there.

Slipped my mind Ebron was a colt, hell Fleener might as well call it a career at this point.

So all that talk about Fleener’s flaws is probably moot.  This isn’t good at all before you even get to what he doesn’t offer when healthy.

He’s a pretty unlikable guy, but this is something you really don’t wish on anybody. We’re nearing 7 months from the injury and he still isn’t cleared. That’s nearing the point that you wonder if the guy will ever get back to normal.
