#19 - OC Chase Roullier

Chase came in and started 7 games as a Rookie at Center, which is pretty awesome considering he was a 6th round pick (a 6th rounder we traded up for though).  In fact, the organization was so happy with his play that they didn't even make an effort to retain Spencer Long.  So Roullier is entering 2018 as the unquestioned starter at Center.  You can read a great breakdown of his play last year here:

http://redskinscapitalconnection.com/chase-roullier-the-present-and-future-at-center/

To summarize, Chase played really well in pass protection but needs to get stronger and play better in the run game.  I really feel like we landed a good prospect here with a late round pick, which is exciting because we never seem to do that.

Actually if you count Richardson I guess it would be 4.

Sure I count Richardson, he’s definitely going to be a starter but I can understand why you don’t have in your top 20 because he’s only had one year of real production. Of course, a lot of our players have only had one year of real production, including Doctson for example.

Doctson has yet to realize the potential he has as a first round prospect, but WRs do take longer to adjust to the NFL than most positions.  I'm hoping Doctson takes a big step in his 3rd season.  The biggest concern for me last year was the very low conversion rate on passes thrown his way.  Of the 78 times he was thrown to he only landed 35 receptions.  Obviously there are factors involved like bad throws, or the fact that he probably gets more contested balls thrown his way because he's bigger, but that's still a very low conversion rate.  All that said, I think he's overall the most physically gifted WR we have.  If he can step up he can be our legitimate top target in the passing game.

Guice ran for 1,200+ yards in back to back seasons in the SEC, which is no small feat.  He did this while having very little help from his QB, and a ton of 8 man boxes.  At 5'11" 224 lbs, Guice ran a solid 4.49 sec 40 at the combine and runs with speed and power.  I expect him to be the Redskins starting RB Week 1 and lead in carries for the season.

In a pretty crappy season for us last year, Ioannidis was a pleasant surprise.  His hand injury limited him some down the stretch but his impact was more than his numbers suggest.  He ended up with a solid 4.5 sacks, and provided pretty consistent pressure throughout the year.  He was most effective when we had Jon Allen on the other side, so I expect with him Allen and Payne out there he'll be able to do even more damage.  He's solid against the run too, and was considered a very good run defending prospect in his draft class.  I remember @Woz being very upset when we traded down (passing over a few NTs prospects) and selecting this guy.  I'm hoping Woz is happy with the end result.  I expect Ioannidis to be a solid starter for us on the Dline for several more years.

Oh Preston Smith, the best OLB in the league 3 games a year.  Too bad you provide absolutely nothing 13 games a year.  I can't remember such an inconsistent Redskin in my lifetime.  He reminds me a bit of Lavar Arrington in that he has great ability but plays completely out of control at times which takes him out of plays.  His two INTs in 2017 did show some hope that he can be more of a difference maker, but if this guy is going to earn an extension he needs to step up in a big way.  If he ever put it all together he'd be back in the top 5 of this list.  I'm not holding my breath that he will.

Hopefully if Allen stays healthy, that will free up Smith more to finally reach his potential.
