Preseason Game 1: Raiders v. Cardinals

Posted this in the TC thread but figured we should drum up separate convo here. RAIDER FOOTBALL IS BACK!!

Can't wait for this game tomorrow. Glad we aren't even thinking abut playing Mack, Coop, etc.

Guessing Lynch will get a series or two.

Excited to see a few things tomorrow

-Borders: been talk all camp. Can he translate it to the field.

-Lee/James: if they can stabilize the LB situation it will go a long way. Don't need to be studs, just not liabilities.

-WR battle: With Coop, Crab, Roberts, and Patterson as locks there is one, maybe two spots left between Holton, Jaydon, Brent, etc. I think Holton locks one down and if Brent keeps up his big plays he may force his way into us keeping 6 WR's (assuming he can play ST's)

-Interior DL: Vanderdoes and Hester figure to get a good amount of snaps, want to see if they can generate any type of push.

-Calhoun: he's healthy yes? Supposedly bulked up a good amount so interested to see if he's kept a good amount of his explosion and if we use him off the ball at all which I am against.

I'm very excited to see (hopeful) improvement from our young defensive guys:

Calhoun has reportedly been able to get to Carr (not saying much with our tackles, but we'll see), Hester, Vanderdoes, and Cowser have also been performing well from what I've read.

Young corners like Durden, McDonald, and Borders are guys to watch as well, as one of them could definitely provide quality depth if they show out.

Hopefully someone stands out in the linebacking core, namely Marquel Lee who I'm pinning my hopes on.

As far as offense, I'd like to see one of the young, new receivers on the roster step up and the young/new tackles hold up ok.

Looks pretty spot on, the only thing I would probably think is that GAIII will make the team, because of special teams and Hood will go on the practice squad to start.

The only thing that I could see happening different would be if one of the other WRs impresses enough for us to keep 6. KJ Brent & Mickens have been reportedly doing well.

I think Hood vs GAIII is even.  Hood has had some good plays in camp.  I know he's a 7th rounder but maybe we don't wanna risk losing him by stashing him.  Idk, I could see it go either way.  STs does need help though as mentioned

I'm keen on the Mickens vs Brent competition.  Completely different WRs but either might be worth a roster spot.  I think both would not clear waivers to the PS.  Really interested to see how they play in games.  Who knows, maybe even Holton is in this competition too.  If one thing's for sure we're only keeping 3 TEs which might free up a 7th WR spot.  Walford has improved, and Lee/Cook are safe.  Haven't heard anything about the others except Brown playing like crap

T.J Carrie going to show why he is a starting CB in this league.

Yeah, I agree.  Which is why I think he's gone after this year.  Even if he's cool with being the 3rd CB, someone will offer him more money than we will whether its to start or not.  We have too much money tied up at CB too even if we drop Smith.  I don't think we unload Amerson unless Carrie totally beasts this year.  Plus we have a slew of young CBs competing for the last 2 spots.  Borders, McDonald, Durden, etc.  Just mentioning all this even though most is obvious because CB was a glaring weakness a few years ago.
