Given that Morgan Jones has joined Fear The Walking Dead and CAL/Mexico are affected there, I think we can put to rest the idea that it's a local problem.

BleedTheClock
Welp looks like this show is over. Andrew Lincoln is leaving after season 9. No idea how this show continues with Rick leaving the show. There is no possible way to salvage the show once that happens. If they still had Carl and Negan together, MAYBE the show could survive. But putting Darryl as the lead would sink the ship. I like Darryl, but he's not a developed enough character to carry a show that needs a spark. The death of the show was trying to get fans interested in useless characters. Too much time spent on ancillary characters and side storylines that went nowhere. And then terrible writing choices like having multiple chances to kill Negan (from like 10 different people in "the group") to killing Carl. No idea why they decided to write Carl off. He was the 2nd most important character in The Walking Dead and I just wish his death was at least more profound than "oh, a random walker got him." Have a "big bad" take him out if you're insistent on getting him off the show. But instead he gets a meaningless death for shock value. I hate to be the jaded critic, but the writers on this show really do suck. It sounds weird to say, but there weren't many eye roll moments in the first few seasons of TWD. There are like 5-6 eye roll moments in each episode since Negan arrived. And Negan's great--it's the plot that surrounds everything else that isn't.

It’s like the writers just hyper focused on character development and nothing else for the show.
bucsfan333
Surprising everyone and killing off Carl was better than the usual 'focus on a character you never noticed for 45 minutes before they die' formula they usually use.

Killing Carl killed any chances of this franchise moving forward Also, after thinking and wondering, I figured out Simon was literally "Trevor" from GTA 5, I just wished TWD would have played a little more Trevor the character, that would have been awesome. BobbyPhil1781
I think what is ultimately going to kill this show (and this isn't to disagree w/ you guys w/ your opinions above) is that we already know what is going to happen and this isn't a secret. Hell, I bet the casual fan who just has a Facebook account knows this. If the element of surprise existed and Rick just gets killed off, I would be very focused on seeing where the show goes b/c the element of surprise gets me. I guess it's how I just operate. Now, I'll just be watching like "OK is this where Rick dies?"...... "Not that episode, maybe the next one" and that's going to be my entire focus.

Unless he doesn’t die and this whole plot is a stunt. That would be funny

BobbyPhil1781
It'll just be some flashback and he's only in the show for like 10 minutes.
