Do you manually put in every statistic and what not then? Jeez

Yupp. It's pretty tedious so that's why i do them in big bursts. Like I'll spend a weekend doing it and get in a groove, the take a week off.

Kanter is here to stay. Legit no one wants him. That contract sucks, I won't make that mistake again.

TRADE
RAPTORS RECEIVE   THUNDER RECEIVE
2024 1st   2021 2nd
SF TERRANCE FERGUSON 76 1/$3.9M   SF OG ANUNOBY 81 1/$3.9M

I had similar offers for 2022 picks, but I really wanted this 2024 pick from the Thunder. They have all their contracts expiring after the 2023 season and I think that team falls apart. I am hoping they re-sign OG to a bird deal and that will destroy their core going forward.

TRADE

PG PATTY MILLS 72 1/$13.9M   2023 2nd

This is more or less moving some picks around. I think having 4 picks in 2022 is too much, so I'm moving Pascal and his team option which I wasn't going to pick up and next years pick from Minnesota for another Spurs pick, this one in 2023, and Patty Mills on an expiring deal. They wanted a 2nd round pick too for whatever reason

If you're wondering why I have so many Spurs picks it's because I disabled the Stepien Rule before I started, the one where you can't trade away back to back 1st round picks, because I think it's a stupid rule

Nice to see 5 guys average double digit points, but going forward I'd like to see someone in the 20s like McKnight was last year. Not a lot of surprises. I thought that Bullard would have scored a bit more with the minutes I gave him, but this was a really bad team and he is still the 2nd option.

Playoff Note

The #1 seed Cavaliers beat the #7 seed Grizzlies 4-1 to win the 2021 NBA Finals. Lebron James was the Finals MVP with 28.5ppg, 7.2rpg, and 8.8apg. Another one for the King

I really like the formatting of your tables and the info you're including, particularly the end of year stats and the draft capital ones.  The salary breakdown one might become a lot more useful once your team is good and you've had to hand out some hefty second contracts

I appreciate that. I figured I'd start over the weekend so people could read on Monday and have a decent amount of content.

If there's anything else you think would be worth me including, let me know.

I didn't start the salary breakdown for a couple years because it really is irrelevant until you have players who will be with the team long term.

Just another note not specific to your comment, I will be including a top 25 player list starting next season since there is finally at least 1 CPU generated player in there (Jack King).

Notable Retirements

  • Tyson Chandler
  • Al Jefferson
  • Trevor Ariza
  • Rajon Rondo
  • Joakim Noah

League Meetings

Again, no new rules were passed this year

Draft Lottery

These are the top odds for the lottery:

  1. Clippers 25%
  2. Mavericks 19.9%
  3. Raptors 15.6%
  4. Kings 7.9%
  5. Suns 7.8% - via Heat
  6. Pelicans 7.8%
  7. Magic 7.8% - via Grizzlies
  8. Lakers 2.3%
  9. Blazers 2.2%
  10. Suns 1.1%

The Pelicans jumped all the way from 7 to win the lottery. The Mavs stayed at 2, the Clips dropped to 3, and I ended up with the 4th pick. That's great, I don't have to trade for the 4th pick now! Just a reminder, I can't have a op 3 pick in back to back years, and I had #1 last year.

Thankfully the Clippers suck, so I have the first pick in the 2nd round. The Spurs bone me again and give me another mid 20s pick. I can only count on myself when it comes to sucking.

This is another guard heavy draft, and that sucks. I am set at guard and could really use a small forward, but there's only 4 of them with 1st round grades, and three of them are 23 or 24 years old. The only one that is young, 21, has 76 speed. UGH

There are some really interesting SG prospects though, and I think I could get away with playing one of them out of position for a year. Both Monroe and Timmy White are 6'7. Both of them and Edmund Haynes I think are the players I am looking at at 4. I expect Timmy White to be gone.

Let's get this started

  • The Pelicans stay put and take Timmy White #1 overall. He's a really good scorer, and honestly the smart pick.
  • The Mavs take Leon Meyer #2, which means one of those two other guys will be there for me
  • The Clippers stay put too and take.... Rodney Monroe. Damnit.

There goes plan A and B. This is honestly one of the toughest decisions I've had to make with a draft pick. The deepest positions and best players are clearly all guards, but I have 3 guards who play. Here are my options

2 PG LUIS MANN 19 6002 6001 205 FRESNO STATE 75 B
7 PF EDMUND HAYNES 23 6010 7000 246 NORTHWESTERN 73 A
10 SG LEO ADAMS 20 6006 6011 217 GEORGETOWN 71 B-
12 SF CRAIG WESTPHAL 21 6008 6010 226 IOWA 72 A
15 SG ROBIN GENTRY 20 6005 6007 203 GEORGE WASH 70 B

Mann is 19. He's only 6'2, but he has the speed and shot I want at point. A for both mid and 3 shots, 91 speed. But I just drafted a PG last year #1, and I still have Frank Jackson who I have signed for 2 more years.
Edmund Haynes has the best potential left, but he's 23 and honestly isn't that great at anything after looking at all his stuff again.

Adams and Gentry are both young and have great shots. They both have speed 85+, and can play decent perimeter defense. They are too small to play at the 3, but they'd both come off the bench this year anyway. Both have B potential, which is such a bummer at 4 overall. These guys are clearly the most pro ready though

Finally we have Westphal. By now I think you guys realize I like fast players. SF is my favourite position to have a really good athlete. Westphal is pretty slow with 76 speed. He is pretty damn raw offensively, but he comes out of the box as a plus defender. He has the potential to develop, but again, he isn't going to do squat on offense for a couple years. I guess that isn't that much different from Anunoby though.

I hope that I don't regret drafting for need...

I passed on 2 players I liked more. Really disappointed the guys I loved didn't make it to me

So I'm going through, and we are at pick 16 and Robin Gentry, who was my second choice at #4 ovr, is still there. Let's see if the Grizzlies, who are up next, are willing to trade anything.

Yooooooo, I am actually stoked at this. I liked Gentry enough to almost draft him 10 spots ahead of his "draft ranking", but I'm able to pick him up by trading an expiring contract and a bench player in Malachi Richardson and moving up 7 spots from my next pick!

Gentry has a really developed offensive game already. He's a little undersized, and I already have a bench SG that I like already, but I'll find some minutes for Gentry.

  • The Grizzlies picked Leo Adams at 24! The other guard I liked. Good for them, that's who I would have picked too

On the clock at 2.1..... I didn't even notice until not that Jason Terry Jr. is in this class. As much as I want to take him, he's bad. The players here aren't great, but there's one clear guy I don't hate

Ozat has one year left overseas, so that should give him a little bit of time to develop. He has 6 badges which are mostly centered around playing in the post, which is a way to get some cheap baskets when usering, so maybe in a few years he can be a bench scorer.

This concludes the draft. I don't think I got any game changers, but a couple solid guys who will get minutes this year, and one hopeful starter by year 2

Solid.  I probably would have taken Haynes.

Yeah, going into the draft I was going to if the two guards went before 4, but Haynes is just kinda limited. Not fast, not strong, not good on offense or defense. If my roster was a little better then I probably would have, but I have no one to play the 3 other than Terrence Ross. i figure I can get a Haynes in almost every draft class outside of the top 5. I drafted that one for need, 100%

The Suns have 2 reps on this list, and they actually have 2 more who just missed the cut, including their 2018 draft pick Center **** Robinson, who has progressed to an elite defensive player. I think that team will be a threat this year, but probably still not enough to dethrone the Warriors

So I'm not tanking, but I am giving some young guys minutes. Arguably my best players have the most time, except for the rookie SF. 2k suggested I start him anyway so I agreed.

I am a bit heavier on starter minutes this year, and the bench emphasis is scoring. Both Gentry and Nate Green are getting minutes, so my bench will be undersized. I gave Gentry a few more minutes because I like his skill set a bit more, and it's only 2 more minutes. Junzhe Su is a weak player, but 10 minutes can't hurt too much.

I don't expect to make the playoffs this year, but I expect I'll have my best season of the last 3.

This rebuild has been going a little slower than usual, and that's because I haven't been able to nab an elite prospect. Well, here is elite prospect #2 of this league, Darius Robertson. Yes, I know I drafted 3 guards already and they all have a spot on the roster. Darius Robertson could be moved to the 3 spot very easily. He has the length, he has B perimeter D, 67 strength which is great for a perimeter player, 99 speed, 99 dunk... it goes on. He is an incredible prospect. I will do whatever it takes to get the #1 pick this year. I haven't been acquiring all these #1 picks for nothing

Contract Extensions

POSITION PLAYER OVR AGE TERM VALUE STATUS
PG FRANK JACKSON 79 23 2 23.98M NOT OFFERED
C ENES KANTER 84 28 2 20.42M NOT OFFERED
PG PATRICK MILLS 70 33 1 MIN NOT OFFERED

I went back and forth on the Frank Jackson offer. I still have him for next season, so I don't see this as pressing. I will re-evaluate next year.

Kanter and Mills are obvious choices to let go.
