Quarterfinal 3 sees two of the three worst teams to make this stage face off.

England has lacked creativity all tournament, scoring almost all their goals from set pieces and penalties, including their only goal against Colombia. They came out of their last game with a number of their players receiving knocks, including Jamie Vardy who could not take a penalty in the shootout as scheduled because of an injury.

Sweden will be the fresher of the two sides, having beaten Switzerland 1-0 in regulation time thanks to a goal from star playmaker Emil Forsberg.  The Swedes will be hoping that that goal is a sign of things to come and that he can lead them to victory.

  • Swedish right back Mikael Lustig is suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards
  • Walker, Henderson, Lingard and Loftus-Cheek are all one booking away from missing the semi-finals should England make it
  • Victor Claesson and Albin Ekdal face missing a semi-final with another yellow card

Prediction

I fully expect England to have the majority of the ball with Sweden all too happy to sit back and defend before attacking on the counter.  The Three Lions will need to be far more creative in midfield and not rely on beating a solid, organised Swedish defense at set pieces.  Hopefully there is far less diving in this game than there was in the last one featuring the English side.

1-1 at full time, Sweden wins in ET

Loving the negativity ;) This will be a decent test for England, but Sweden aren't as good as Colombia. It will be very dissappointing to go out at this stage.

Very.

If this was a qualifier or friendly we'd be expecting to win. It's only the pressure of a QF which is causing us sleepless nights.

No changes so Alli, Young and Sterling start again.

Still not convinced they offer us the best chance of victory but I'll give Southgate the benefit of doubt.

Lingard should have been replaced. I’m shocked there are no changes. The attack was very bad vs Colombia.
