My OCD would drive me crazy with funky scores like 25-1 or 16-11.

What could be cool - if you split the uprights on a kickoff, the touchback comes out to the 15 instead of the 25.

That was my idea even before reading that. I like it.

I'm not a fan of that.  But, how about we do like Aussie Rules Football and add in another set of goal posts outside of the current ones, so that you still get a point if the kicker can't get it in the smaller one? :)  Just kidding.

I already have FS2 scheduled to Tivo the Western/Port Adelaide game that comes on Friday night at midnight (east coast time). :)

God, I miss watching Aussie Rules football on ESPN back in the 80s.  I was a big Carlton Blues fan then.

I was making fun of your team's offense, Admiral Oblivious.

Thank you for the promotion. Our offense will make fun of itself, mostly by scoring 9 points a game if they're lucky.

It is practically impossible to compare stats today with past generations. The game has changed so much, that today's stats would be meaningless when compared with past players. An example would be WR's. Most of today's WR's couldn't have even played in the 60's, 70's and 80's when head shots were still allowed. It took real guts to receive a ball in the middle of the field as you could count on a Safety trying to take your head off when he tackled you. I am not against the rule changes to protect WR's, it is just solid common sense that we do not want concussions to occur like they did in the past, but that does not change the fact that a WR today does not have to fear for his head and can boldly go about just worrying about catching the ball. A WR from the 60's, 70's and 80's would love to play today's game. They were truly brave men.

The point I am making, is that there have been so many rule changes in the NFL that the game is hardly the game it used to be. When is enough is enough and we just play football. The NFL is starting to lose us old timers, I for one, am sick of rule changes, the game simply does not resemble football as I grew up watching. I am all for player protection rules, but what is the necessity to change the game from how it has always been played. I've come to hate rule changes, brought in to convince a TV audience that it is a better game with the new rules. Some day, the NFL will wonder what happened to all their older fans who cannot even recognize that it is still football being played and not some joke called football. Suppose baseball followed suit with the NFL and for safety sake decided that a pitcher could not throw a ball faster than 80 miles per hour and we got to see 15 to 20 home runs a game. I know I would not watch another game, but young fans simply do not realize how much football has changed over the years. I say enough is enough. Leave the game alone, please!!!

Hate to be negative about this but I highly doubt it.

I think this is the best idea i've heard so far. A super simple change that rewards kicking skill but doesn't change the score of the game.

Also something like this would definitely start to create more specialist positions which I'm not entirely sure I like.

I do like this idea as well.  It would make teams strategize as to whether they need to carry a kick-off specialist AND a place kicker.

They already have to strategize enough as it is in order to keep up with replacements for injuries at much more important positions. There are already some teams that only carry 2 active QB's just to keep a roster spot open for emergencies. All that you would be doing with this option here is taking away ANOTHER TWO spots from the active roster. And for what....a place kicker and a whole 10 yards more of field position to start a drive? Hell, teams already get that on almost every kick/punt return now as it is for "holding".

That don't sound like a very good trade off to me. The only "upside" to this would be that Goodell and co would probably love it because it would add more offense. And we know how much they absolutely love their 100 point games.

IMO, there have already been WAY too many rule changes on special teams in the last 7-8 years that it's almost reaching the point of irrelevancy (hyperbole). And it all started with banning the wedge rule. From there it just spiraled out of control.  I personally don't wanna see it get watered down even more.
