I did forget the bruised ribs in camp, but I know last year's playing time was not unique for him. He started 8 games last year (due to injury) , started 8 in his rookie season (due to injury), and started 6 in 2016 (due to injury). In his first two years, he was still active every game as well. This is the first time his playing time is expected to be different.

But in 2016 he played 612 snaps in 15 games, 743 snaps in 2015 in 15 games, while playing 595 snaps last year in only 8.5 games. So he was playing drastically more snaps per game last year compared to his first two seasons in the league. So he went from playing 40-50 snaps per game in his first two years to around 70 + last year. Now, maybe that is irrelevant but worth noting IMO.

I know edge defenders don't grow on trees, but we have to be close if not the worst team heading into camp from a pass rush standpoint. We have nothing. Even if the potential on the secondary pans out, their jobs are going to be a lot harder with opposing quarterbacks being able to read a book in the pocket.

Granted, there wasn't really anything the 49ers could have done this offseason. Well, maybe take a chance on Harold Landry in the second, but nope.

"Smith was an unexpected inclusion. Lynch said something came up with his lower leg in the past week, and Smith let them know about it. It sounds like he is mostly recovered from it, but the team is playing it cautious."

$800K for a spare leg during camp?  THat seems like a lot.

Jeff Locke is a left-footed punter and was signed to be a camp leg to help returners practice fielding punts off of both a left- and right-footed punter. This is pretty standard practice for most teams.

Fred Warner gets more reps now.

According to Shanahan, there is a camp battle for the punter job?????
