Deadpulse
Going to continue this line of threads... let's get it! @dhunt2402 @Hunter2_1 @TomRalph @I_GET_SAX @1ForTheThumb @DoleINGout @Troy Brown @Yin-Yang @AlNFL19 @nextsuperstar1 @Starless @LD696 @ChazStandard @jofos @Elky @SBLIII @Spooky @bluemushrooms @The Third Rider @Nex_Gen @goldfishwars @mission27 @mcmurtry86 @redsoxsrule1437 @everlong @iothar @tonyto36 @atmer @PatriotsWin! @Pats#1 @lancerman @GoldenboyDB12 @biggbrd @ICB @Iron_man @InRodWeRust So this battle is intrinsically different than the RB battle as that is for a spot in what is almost assuredly a rotation of RBs. Here we are looking for a defacto starter and for the most part know who is making the roster and who isnt. So here is the depth chart as it stood during the first day of TC (7/26/18) 1st String: Trent Brown 2nd String: Isaiah Wynn 3rd String: LaAdrian Waddle It is very telling to me that Wynn is already running with the second unit when we had someone in the system for a few years already on the team. However, I still don't think he touches a starting role unless injuries strike. This is Trent Brown's position to lose, and IMO, he has a strangle hold on it despite only having day 1 in the books. To me, its not so much that Brown is leaps and bounds better than Wynn. To me there are two big reasons why we wont see Wynn start as long as Brown (and others) are healthy: 1. Trent Brown remains young at 25 years, but comes in with experience. It's this unique combination that gives him the edge here. 2. Wynn has so much versatility. Even if he does impress enough to be competition to Brown, I still think the coaching staff will see he offers the most value as a 2nd string OL who can come in and play almost any position save to Center. With Trent Brown serving on a 1 year deal, I think he holds onto the starting role for this year with eyes on Wynn gaining experience at the pro level and moving in for the starting role next season. DoleINGout
Sounded like Brown is the front runner from day one of training camp yesterday. Apparently he is massive, even compared to the rest of the offensive linemen. Which doesn't necessarily translate, but it does add some anticipation and excitement to the situation. Hopefully he can man down the tackle spot successfully all season but I think it was also mentioned on the radio that there will be a committee almost like when Matt Light/Nate Solder and Sebastian Vollmer were being put at tight end and whatnot almost a decade ago. DoleINGout
On Wynn- I think he can play center too. FWIW.
Soko
This is probably the toughest positional battle to predict IMO. I know the team really like Waddle, while the fans are probably leaning towards Wynn. Brown probably has the most/best NFL experience but he’s switching sides. Tough call. Gun to my head I’d pick Trent Brown, but I have zero confidence in that prediction.
InRodWeRust
I feel that this is really a crap shoot especially with Dante coaching. Who knows how fast Wynn will pick up on the offense and improve his technique. If I'm forced to guess an order then here it is: 1. Trent Brown - At least played some left tackle in the NFL and was a starter. 2. LaAdrian Waddle - Only really played Right Tackle but at least has experience in the Patriots offense. I don't feel comfortable with him starting. 3. Isaiah Wynn - At least played some left tackle in college. I think they will sub him in here and there this year to give him some experience before they make him a starter.
J-ALL-DAY
This shouldn't even be a question. Brown should be penciled in as the starting LT. I thought Wynn was going to play LG? What happened to that?

Nex_Gen
I feel like Brown locks down the LT job and starts there all season. I could see Wynn being the immediate plug and play/swing guy at most of the other 4 spots and ends up starting here and there with injuries/shuffling around. With that said, Wynn was the best LT in CFB on tape last season. I think the guy ends up being able to play anywhere on the line long term. Absolutely love the guy's prospects.... TomRalph
Trent Brown better have the LT spot locked down. I hate Wynn as an OT prospect, but if he turns into Zack Martin as an OT to OG conversion, that'll be nice.

He's short (er) , therefore he can't be a good OT. That's the only thing people can point to, but they conveniently ignore that he has comparable arm length to other tackles. Believe I remember reading he has the same arm length as Matt Light.

Just a hair shorter. But his arm length is very comparable to lots of other good tackles. I’m no OL specialist, but if two players have the same reach, I don’t see how the extra height is an advantage. If anything it gives them worse leverage/pad level IYAM. I guess it means they could more easily carry the weight but at ~315lbs before the draft, I don’t think it’s a big deal. I’d be happy with him as a guard and Brown as a tackle. I’d be happy with Wynn as a tackle and Brown as a backup. Trust Scar.
The Third Rider
I don’t think any spot is really locked, Trent might start at LT but if he struggles they will shuffle them around. You might even see shuffles in preseason.

I think his rookie season, it's not going to have a huge impact. They'll plug and play him where needed. I think they'll go Brown at LT for this season, and if Thuney struggles, they'll play Wynn at guard. If not, he'll be used to fill in -should there be injuries- and as a swing tackle in big packages. Your last point is why I never worry about the OL when it comes to the Patriots. Trust in the old man; he's the goat.

Yeah, it may be a little bit stupid in terms of reasoning, but I always want height and length with OT's. I just can't not worry about a 6'2" OT
