titansNvolsR#1
Don’t think Reid ever had a chance. Seems like an easy out to say they couldn’t make it work due to flights/Vaccaro interest. The conspiracy theorist in me makes me think it was just a way for the nfl to say they tried signing him but it didn’t work out.

And if I was filing a collusion case against a company that I think was actively trying to keep me unemployed, I would scoff at the idea of “you need to drive 11 hours right now for a workout”. And look at that, they signed a lesser player right away because all of a sudden his market just took off. ...right.

How many months was Vaccaro on the FA market for? But we're supposed to believe that his market just happened to heat up in that 24 hour period? When I say time crunch, I'm not even referring to a heated up market, I'm referring to the fact that the preseason is days away and the Titans didn't have a single strong safety on the roster. Every day, every practice is pretty significant when you're working in a new starter that has spent zero time in the locker room or in the system. 45 minutes ago, Yin-Yang said: And if I was filing a collusion case against a company that I think was actively trying to keep me unemployed, I would scoff at the idea of “you need to drive 11 hours right now for a workout”. They signed a lesser player because he showed up and they had a spot that desperately needed to be filled. I have no idea if his market took off. But if there was even the smallest indication Vaccaro was going to be brought in for a workout for another team, you can't just sit back and wait for Reid to finally make his way into town. Reid, or his agent, is fully capable of looking at a forecast. He doesn't want to drive 11 hours? Fine. Look at the weather. He's on the east coast, something tells me that he could've found an airport within three hours that still had flights operating to Nashville either Friday or Saturday morning. If, on Friday after his first flight was canceled, he didn't check the weather and make any sort of effort to find an alternate route on Saturday beyond hoping that the storms went away, then screw it. Sign the best player of the three guys that bothered to make it into town in a 48 hour window. Actually, as I post more on the subject, I'm getting more frustrated by the lack of effort. Rent a car, get a driver, drive to a different airport, hell, book plane tickets at two different airports and get a feel for the weather on Saturday morning. Guy has made over $10 million in his career, he can probably afford to have a few different options. If he has to eat the cost on one of them, that sucks, but he'll live. If you believe teams are looking for a reason not to sign you (which yeah, they obviously are), don't hand them the easiest reason imaginable by not ensuring you're available for a workout. And I'm also not stupid, I recognize the obvious chance that the Titans were never going to sign him in the first place. It might be a hard pitch to some of the southern fans. But man, don't give them such an easy out. At least force them to try to justify signing the lesser player.

It's not his job to jump through a bunch of hoops because teams are doing something that might rise to the level of illegal. Further, if the Titans were looking for an excuse not to sign him, what do you think his conclusion is after all this? "Even if I went out of my way to get there, they wouldn't have signed me anyways. It was all for show."

It's August. Teams can't afford to work around his schedule.

A team with playoff aspirations had a fifth-round pick practicing as the starting strong safety in August. They were bringing in four strong safeties for workouts on Friday and had one signed by Saturday morning. I feel like that's a pretty strong indication that they felt it was a rather pressing need. There hasn't been one preseason game played yet.

If the Titans had signed Vaccaro on Friday night, yeah, go ahead and complain. Not making sure you have an alternate plan for Saturday and then failing to make it again for the exact same reason as Friday isn't quite as acceptable. Who expects flights to be cancelled on back to back days? The Titans are the one who make the travel arrangements. They couldn't wait until Sunday? What was so pressing? Having your starting strong safety go down a month before the start of the regular season and needing to get a free agent with no experience in the system acclimated just strikes me as pretty obviously pressing. At that point, pretty much every practice is important for a guy that is coming off the street and stepping immediately into a starting role. Force the Titans to work out four players and choose the second best option. Then I can complain right alongside everyone else about the nonsense involved. If you're given two days to get to Nashville, get to Nashville. It's 2018. You're wealthy. It's not a tough ask.

titans0021
I understand the argument that the Titans didn't put forth a full effort to get him worked out. Obviously they could've waited. But I struggle to see an argument for them someone being responsible for not waiting for him to get to town to make a move and fill a gigantic hole on the roster. Book your own flight. Force them to deal with the backlash. I've heard of a number of players driving out of their way to make sure they hit a deadline for a team.
