Khalil Mack

Our Mac has to at the very least kick the tired on this one and try and get creative. We have to valuable commodities as it stands: 1) Teddy Bridgewater and 2) 2019 1st round pick (at least what we are willing to trade ie we aren't going to trade Adams, or Williams)

We are still rebuilding around a young nucleus and it looks to finally be starting to implement a new culture, so trading our first round pick doesn't seem like the ideal scenario, though it could be argued that we are absolutely targeting that same position, well come back to that.

Teddy Bridgewater presents an interesting situation. We know the Raiders have Carr, so offering them Teddy Bridgewater would get Mac hung up on, however, I think entertaining a 3 team trade could at least make the Raiders open to dialogue. Let's just use the Jaguars as an EXAMPLE. The Jaguars are hypothetically looking to upgrade the position from Blake Bortles. Jets probably wont get a 1st round pick for him but most likely a 2nd and maybe a conditional 6th as a sweetener. The Jets can now offer their 2019 2nd, along with the Jags 2nd and 6th along with either a player or lets just say a 2020 conditional pick and that could be plenty of compensation for the Raiders to really re-tool that depleted defense.

The advantage here for the Jets is the not only the need for the position, a player they are looking to trade, but they have by far the lowest salary cap in the league going into 2019 with really only Leonard Williams to pay in the next two years. Khalil Mack gives us the best pass rusher weve had since Gastineu and maybe one the most dominate defenders the Jets have had ever, with still another 80 million in cap space to plug the rest of the holes on the team going forward. Just an interesting thought. What are you boys willing to give up for Mack, if anything?

Thought we trade our 2019 2nd already for Darnold.

As for Mack it's a pipe dream.  I have a hard time giving up multiple firsts and playing him 100+ million.  We have so many holes.

Fowler for Teddy would be nice though.

You are right. Totally forgot. Whatever still glad we got Darnold haha. Mack would be such a huge acquisition. Makes our defense above average to easily top 5.

You won't be hearing me complaining if Darnold pans out.

I think I would take a pass on Mack unless we got him to sign a long term deal with us plus it did not cost us a lot. I think we are looking at 2 first round picks plus for him. He already has 40.5 sacks in his young career. I just don't see us a pass rusher away from a SB. I would look at Brandon Graham, Fowler or even a guy that has success as a pass rush but is old and got cut on final cuts.

He’s quite frankly the only thing we’re missing on defense. But in a rebuild... I’m sure giving up more high picks isn’t on the top of Maccs list. Especially with some potential hitting FA at OLB in 2019. Trust me I’d love Mack on this team, but I just see it far fetched. I see a trade for Fowler or Ray more realistic.

Think we wait till someone gets Cut tbh and go for a more Pass Rush specialist until we address the position next offseason.

I'd imagine a LT will be a bigger need than edge come Round 1 of the draft. Luckily for us... its a loaded OT draft in Round 1. I'd rather see us sign Fowler or Ray as a FA and than draft a LT.

Yeah that’s more of what I was getting at. I don’t think we’ll be picking top5, probably more in the 10-13 range I’d love to Grab The OT from OleMiss Little.

I have us at 6-7 wins so that likely puts us in the 8-13 range like you said.  The OT class looks to have 3 first round prospects which is nice for us since LT is a major need.

Much rather draft a LT and go all in on Lawrence from DAL then trade multiple high end assets for Mack (as much as I'd love to have him.

Just by adding a stud LT and OG to our line and adding a rusher like Lawrence we could be serious playoff contenders assuming Darnold progresses.  We aren't that far off and with our cap space we should be playoff contenders next year.
