Teddy Bridgewater

Nice trade. $500k turned into a 3rd round pick. The 6 means nothing to me. They HAVE to try to get Mack for 1st and 3rd and if not Fowler for the 3rd or even Kearse and a 5th or something. Jets will be decent if they can land a rusher. The defense will keeo them in striking distance against just about any opponent, especislly if its Mack. Mack makes the defense top 7 at worst.

Some people can't ever just be happy.  We likely dodged a 90M dollar bullet with Cousins and possibly ended up with a better, younger cheaper option.  We then proceed to take a flyer on a injured QB who played well enough in PS to land us a day 2 pick.  We paid like 1M to move from our 6th to the Saints 3rd.

Sure in a perfect world a QB goes down and we get a 1st but we got a good pick.  Arguing anything other than solid move is just asinine.

I was so anti-Mack because I didn't want to give up a 1st plus more to land him.  At this point I'd throw out our 1st and our 3rd and see if they bite.

This is pretty much it here. Nice write up.

I’m all for 1st and 3rd for Mack. After that, We can that throw the kitchen sink at OL for the next two years.

I would do either of those trades.  I just don't think Jags want to lose the rusher (they are probably thinking SB this year and they need Fowler).

Plus I think the Raiders will call his bluff and see if he holds on regular season games.

Sucks but I don't think we land either.  I'll be praying though.

I look at the Bradford trade a few years ago and think that Teddy is better than Sam Bradford and Sam was just as bad if not worse on the injury. I not mad at the trade I just think we could have picked up a better deal than this. I don't think we land either Mack or Fowler either. I think we have our eyes on someone else. Might be Ray or some other guy.

I can see that.  Vikings were in panic and screamed for qb help.  Today, there are no team that seeks for starting qb.  Just take what the best offer for Jets that time.   Who knows Saints could flip Bridgewater to a team who wants starting qb immediately for 1st or 2nd round pick by week 8.  That would come back and bite a few of us but not me.

Bradford before traded tore his knee and missed a season but the year before that he threw for 14 TDs in 1/2 a season. To put that into perspective with Teddy... he did that in a whole season and then missed 2 complete seasons. So Bradford’s value when he was healthy was quite a bit higher than that of Bradford. Some on here talk about Teddy like we had a pro bowler here that’s 25yrs old. Im a big Teddy fan and wish nothing but the best for him. But fact is is he’s a guy that hasn’t taken a meaningful snap in over 2 years really and looked good in preseason but nothing incredible. To think we were going to get some high pick for him was kidding ourselves. This is the appropriate value for him. Yes I’d love to have turned this into an edge rusher... but this value will do. I actually would have requested Kikaha for Teddy. Maybe we did... and they said no. But I don’t trust Macc at all drafting an edge so I want us to get one via trade or FA. I thought Teddy could have helped that. And maybe he still does. A 3rd for Fowler would be great. But I think it will take more. Time will tell. I just still can’t see ya going into the season with Martin and Copeland as our pass rushing specialists.

we didn't trust Macc drafting qbs. Now look who we have got.

It will be a very long time before we have the 3rd pick again.... Hopefully

Macc made the trade for that.  that got me wondered about what if Jets were sitting on 10th-16th pick. Settle down with Rosen or Allen or trade 2 or 3 1st round picks away to just get Darnold?  Just glad it never happened.

And Hopefully. Yup!

Well if I would've told you that we bought a third rounder for 500K you would laugh.

Jets did a good job of allowing Bridgewater showcasing himself to let teams become interested in him. If Darnold didn't look the part, he would've gotten starts to showcase himself even more. All sides won on this deal. Saints got their potential long term starter after Brees retires for a third, Jets recouped some of the assets they traded to get Darnold who showed he's ready to start and Bridgewater lands in a nice spot for him potentially long term.

I agree totally.

This was the time to sell Teddy.  Most starting QBs are sitting this week.  And barring a trade we would have needed to carry 3 QBs and thus loosing a player at another position and weakening our depth.  I trust that Mac worked the phones and felt with all things considered this was the best move for the organization. Grew to like TB while he was here.  Don't recall ever seeing a shot of him during the 3 preseason games when he was not smiling and looked genuinely happy to be competing and playing football.  How can't you root for that type of guy?   Best wishes to him and let the Sam Darnold era officially start!!!

I'm not upset by the return, though I do think the jets played it safer than I would have preferred. I feel like Teddy could have garnered more with a few starts under his belt, or if a starter goes down in the next few weeks but a third rounder isn't bad for someone we signed this offseason.

It seems like I am the only person who is upset about trading Bridgewater for only a third round pick, Where are you going to get a young QB with proven talent, and great character for only giving up a third round pick? I just felt we could have held out a little longer before trading him. We needed that second round pick real bad. Now we have to hit a home rum in the FA market next year, we have the money, but can Mac pull the trigger for two top stars.

He’s not played in over two years though so realistically it’s a good trade. Like most on here have said it suits all parties.
