Roster Prediction

Recommended Posts

QB -  Ben Roethlisberger / Landry Jones / Mason Rudolph

RB - Le'Veon Bell / James Connor / Fitzgerald Touissant

FB - Roosevelt Nix

TE - Vance McDonald / Jesse James / Jaylen Samuels (only way I see him making roster)

WR - Antonio Brown / Damoun Patterson

WR - Juju Smith-Schuster / James Washington / DHB

LT - Allejandro Villeneauva / Chuckwuma Okarafor

LG - Ramon Foster / B.J. Finney

C - Maurkice Pouncey (B.J. Finney)

RG - David DeCastro /

RT - Marcus Gilbert

* On the Oline I have a feeling someone will be added that is not currently on the roster.  The depth behind those listed is atrocious.

DE - Stephon Tuitt / Tyson Alualu

DT - (this is how the Steelers lists them as per d/c) Cameron Heyward / LT Walton

NT - Javon Hargrave / Dan McCullers

LOLB - Bud Dupree / Anthony Chickillo

LILB - John Bostic / Matthew Thomas

RILB - Vince Williams / Tyler Matakevich

ROLB - TJ Watt / Keion Adams / Ola Adeniyi

RCB - Artie Burns / Cameron Sutton / Brian Allen

LCB - Joe Haden / Mike Hilton

SS - Terrell Edmunds / Sean Davis

FS - Morgan Burnett / Nat Behre / Jordan Dangerfield

K - Chris Boswell

P - Matt Wile

LS - Kameron Cannaday

( I didn't count them tbh so if someone wants to let me know if i need to adjust it to 53, I will do so)

You have 48 if I counted right.

Im not sure Patterson makes it tbh. Don’t get me wrong, he’s looked pretty good. But he also doesn’t play ST. They seem to like Hunter also. Tucker has looked great on ST.

Feiler is making the team. So is Grimble. Walton most likely is as well.

I think they'll keep Feiler. It seems like they really like him.

Agree, he has played well enough , but if they keep 4 qb's, 5 OLB's etc, it might come down to them not having the same number of OL as usual.

sign ILB -  N. Bowman  , I don't like our ILB situation but I doubt we have any cap space left for signing Bowman or do we?

The new punter should be , berry is done

how do injuries affect the roster? I would think Foster  and possibly Watt would be on PUP, does this free up a roster spot?

Offense (25):

QB (3): Ben, Landry, Mason

RB (4): Bell, Connor, Fitz, Samuels

FB (1): Nix

WR (6): AB, JuJu, Washington, Patterson, Hunter, DHB

TE (3): McDonald, James, Grimble

OL (8): Villy, Foster, Pouncey, Decastro, Gilbert, Finney, Okarafor, Feiler

Defense (25):

DL (6): Hayward, Tuitt, Hargrave, Big Dan, Alualu, Walton

OLB (5): Watt, Dupree, Chicki, Adams, Adeniyi

ILB (4): Williams, Bostic, Matakevic, Thomas

S (5): Burnett, Davis, Edmunds, Burhe, Dangerfield

ST (3):

K: Boswell

P: Anyone else

LS: Cannaday

Thoughts:

- Personally, I hate keeping 6 receivers, but I think Ben is going to want Hunter. He loves that type of receiver and realistically he is the most different of the rest of the group. Problem is he becomes an inactive with no special teams value if Washington is the #3 and Patterson and DHB can be gunners.

- Would love to see us ship Landry for something and make Mason the backup and keep Dobbs. Not because I like Dobbs that much, but I do hate Landry and we could save some cash, get a future asset, and realistically we are not going to win a bunch if we are missing Ben anyway -- so what does it matter if its Landry or Mason backing up? The difference is negligible to me.

- Like Fitzgerald over Ridley for special teams purposes. He has also looked strong in the preseason games so far. Also, Ridley isn't going anywhere if we need to make a call.

- Bumped Brian Allen off the roster. He was pretty bad on defense and his special teams on my roster can be covered by Dangerfield and Patterson.

- Might be a bit of hindsight seeing as Patterson and Washington have been pretty good, but still no clue why we brought back Rogers if he was going to be on PUP this long.

- Would really like to add another Vet OT to the roster as the swing guy. Would eliminate Hunter, Dangerfield, Adeniyi, Samuels, or Thomas in that order.

- Two draft picks - Allen and Frazier dont make the roster, though probably stick with the PS

- Gameday inactive (if we are healthy): Mason, Samuels, Hunter, Okarafor/Feiler, Adeniyi, Walton, Thomas.

Those ILBs (Bostic/Red/VW) are disgusting. Any QB/OC worth a crap will lick their chops and exploit those 3 slugs. They have got to find a way to get Thomas up to speed and/or add a ILB that can run and cover.

its going to get ugly

We play Brees, Brady, Rivers and Ryan this yr. Raiders, Chiefs and Bengals passing games could be problems too

Now that you gave your opinion of those, what do you think of CB burns , and both of our safeties?  Is it just me or will this   be the year we are in the bottom half or worse bottom third in pass D? The schedule doesn't look easy like last year either, something to consider.  We had a very easy schedule and our stats were mostly influenced in a favourable way as a result. The team did almost nothing to improve the D, and I expect it to reflect this as the season goes on. Once a team exploits these weaknesses (pick a few?), others will follow.

@August4th I agree 100%, and then this is considering full health for us. What if we have a few injuries, just suppose Heyward or Tuitt, or Haden, Watt, I mean this could be the year they finally wake up and decide to address these issues on D next offseason, I said  "maybe ".

This will make for an interesting season. I have thought perhaps we will play more nickel, but what variation of the nickel? Will new players be an improvement over last year, such as Burnett, Edmunds as well as existing players burns, dupree and whoever  is the NT.  I can't recall there being this much uncertainty on D during the tomlin era. I have no idea what they will do scheme wise (a bit but not enough) and while I am pessimistic about some starters, the reserves that could replace them are unknowns and question marks . One thing is for  sure, I can't stand watching  lousy defence

( I didn't count them tbh so if someone wants to let me know if i need to adjust it to 53, I will do so)

is there a chance they opt for:

RB bell, connor and samuels

TE james, mcdonalds  (but samuels is the 3rd TE. RB so he take 2 spots )

This leaves an extra roster spot and also with samuels playing TE and RB and also gets him more snaps.  Almost comparable to the OL that can play anywhere on the line. Speaking of the OL, we could add another player there with the player saved, but then again we could add another receiver tooO.o

@jebrick would you say the marcus allen pick was a waste especially if he goes to the PS and  since they could have drafted a pic many here wanted such as NT Settle?
