Travis Frederick Out until further notice

This is the type of thing that should make people stop thinking of him as Travis Frederick the football player and START thinking about him as Travis Frederick THE PERSON.

Obviously I hope he can play again, but first and foremost, I just hope this doesnt affect his life outside of football.

Truly sad, but it seems like they got it early and it isnt a severe case....so hopefully he makes a full recovery.

Wasn't this the same disease that Mark Schlereth dealt with?  I know he did end up coming back (and that he was a pretty undersized guard to begin with), but he'd said it took him close to a year before he really felt like himself again in terms of feeling in his extremities.

Just heard Mark Schlereth talk about this on Golic and Wingo. That was a terrifying story. Here's to hoping for a full recovery.

Its wicked.
The one small upside is that these guys have access to the very best medical care on the planet and the health care coverage/cash to pay for it, so the prognosis is better than for many others facing a similar situation

Not making light of or a joke but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Jerry is flying him around to or them to Dallas the best specialists in the nation.

Losing Fredrick "on the field" for any significant time is catastrophic to their season.  The relationship between QB/OC can't be quantified enough. Then add the Play calling he does at the LOS? Massive!

If he retired today.. Would Dallas have to pay him the guranteed part of his contract? Or will that clear the cap space! And whatever insurance policy they got covers it?

Similar to the bosh-heat situation.

They'd be on the hook for sure, because Frederick wouldn't be voluntarily retiring, but being forced to because of injury (should he be the extremely rare case to not recover fully).  And given it's not a pre-existing condition, almost certain any insurance would cover.   That only deals with the cash portion, though - the cap hit is still there no matter what management-wise.

Having said all of that - the prognosis for a full recovery is outstanding.  This isn't a Shazier-type situation.   The odds are tremendously in Frederick's favor, just a matter of how long it takes (and on that count, the season is by no means a lock to return - this can take enough time 2018 is done for sure).   Given there's a very small chance the recovery's not complete to elite athletic levels, though, all we can do is wait it out & hope for good news (and the sooner the better the chances for full recovery).   First, it will be discharge from hospital to home (independent life), and then cleared for exercise/athletic abilities (to regain lost muscle strength/bulk).   How long it takes for both goes a long way in determining the timeline for recovery and odds of an atypical course more than anything else we can speculate on at this stage (and even if we had all the info today, the clinical course would still be most reliable, although more info would certainly shed light on likely odds - just not the same as being certain, everyone's path to recovery is different).
