The guys from yesteryear would of had the opportunity to play ball full time, which would of given them conditioning advantages. 

Also with the way the game has changed and the lower level of value placed on running backs, some of them would change positions.

Bo Jackson and Jim Brown would both be QBs. They both had an arm and the determination to be the best. I think they would of been rare athletes for the position but would be between Vick and newton as players.

He's a terrible human being, but I have to go with O.J. Simpson if we're talking prime running back years. O.J. from 1972-1976 was absolutely unstoppable on some pretty terrible Bills teams with inconsistent blocking. In those 5 years, he was a 1st team All-Pro in each season including his 1973 year where he rushed for over 2,000 yards in only 14 regular season games. With as dominant as he was, the Bills still missed the playoffs that year. 

If O.J. would have been on the Steelers instead of Franco Harris during the 1970's, this wouldn't even be a discussion.
