2018 Eagles/Their 2nd Rnd Pick Watch

Shout out to @BwickRedux  for starting the Texans watch thread.

The Texans pick will be an interesting one to watch as their offense could be trash or do just enough to win games after their defense shuts opposing teams down. It feels like the Texans pick could be anywhere from pick 5 to 25.  Obviously, that variance would make a big difference in terms of the talent the Browns could secure.

Along those lines, I figured I'd start the "Eagles watch," thread although their pick is likely not going to yield us anything exciting in the 2nd round, and it may amount to basically an early 3rd round pick given that their record will probably be in the 22-27.

Carson Wentz will ball out this year causing the Tony Grossi and hot take browns fan to do the "We messed up by passing on him" shtick.

They are stacked everywhere. Could be argued that Wentz has the best pair of tackles in the league with Jason Peters and Lane Johnson. They make the whole team run. WR is solid with big pay potential with Alshon Jeffrey, Torrey Smith, and a supposedly surging Nelson Alghor and Mack Hollins (one of my favorite college WR from last year). Legarrette Blount and Darren Sproles are potent playmakers (potent potables for 200 Alex). Ertz and Celek at TE make the offense a sleeping giant pick in my mind.

Defensively the eagles are no joke.

They have strong depth and star potential in the DE/ pass rush room: Derek Barnett (who has been showing up with sacks in preseason), all underrated first team star Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry, and veteran specialist Chris Long.

Run stuffing sack specialist from the interior lineman position: Fletcher Cox, Timmy Jernigan, and Beau Allen.

Solid sideline to sideline backers in Jordan Hicks, Mychal Kendricks, and Nigel Bradham.

They just acquired Ronald Darby from the bills as their starting CB to go along with a surging rookie Rasul Douglas.

Malcolm Jenkins who is one of the more underrated safeties of this era holds the whole thing together from the back end.

Wiith Zeke Elliot out and the youth in the division....I can't see them winning less than 9 games, especially because I think that Wentz takes a major leap and contends for a top 12 position among the QBs (1. Brady, 2. Rodgers, 3. Brees, 4. Phillip Rivers, 5. Ben Roethlisberger, 6.Matt Ryan, 7. Cam Newton, 8. Russell Wilson, 9. Matthew Stafford, 10. Andrew Luck, 11. Derek Carr, 12. Carson Wentz).....13. Jameis Winston, 15. Marcus Mariota,  16. Dak Prescott, 17. Eli Manning, etc...

I must rate Roethlisberger a little higher than you.

Also, I don't like the Eagles offense nearly as much as you do, I'd predict 7-9.

Great Call Thomas....lol...I suppress all things Ben Roethlisberger and the merciless beatings he's done to us every year; therefore, no wonder why I forgot to add him to the list. I edited my list. Big Ben is number 5 just behind Phillip Rivers in my opinion. Also forgot Cam.

So, wentz would be a top 12 QB by end of the year to me.......

They went 7-9 last year without a lead back like Blount and a true WR1 like Alshon; and they got an elite pass rusher like Barnett and CB1 in Ronald Darby...I could be over-hyping their offense but if Wentz takes a step in development I don't know man...

For our sake, I hope you're right Thomas......a top 14 pick could do the brownies some good.

I get the Benesia, we've all been there.

Blount isn't a very good back, serviceable sometimes, great occasionally and terrible at times. Alshon needs to stay on the field, Matthews would be a better #1 if only he could catch so I will say that is improvement, if he stays healthy. If Wentz does what you expect you will be right. He came out of the gate like the GOAT and then...well not very impressive. He has the talent but we'll see if the drop off was something defenses were doing or his situation. You've talked me into predicting a better record for them I will say 7-8-1.

7-8-1 it is then...lol

I can feel a small case of Benesia coming week 1; every time I start to come down with it in the first quarter; then I can remember nothing and to my surprise I awake in a bed filled with shame, empty bottles in brown paper bags, and half eaten taco bell.

You're right...it really does come down to whether Wentz takes a step forward or regresses.

I was a Goff over Wentz guy and was a fan of the trade down, but it's just hard for me to believe Wentz won't take that step especially since he saw....(wait for it)....Tom House and his QB whisperers....

Nah but seriously...by all acounts Wentz works at the game diligently so if he regresses or his mechanics go the way of Bortles then Wentz was "who we thought they were...he was who we thought they were...now if you want to crown 'em then crown his azz but Wentz was who we thought they were...and we let 'em off the hook."
