Broncofan
Last minute confirmation still pending, although Renck says it's a done deal.. Few thoughts: 1. This gives Yiadom much-needed time to develop - he's not ready. The disheartening (but expected) part is that obviously Langley is nowhere close to being ready - for Yiadom, this is expected, for Langley, this is the pitfall of taking insane-physical-tools/little-to-no-actual-football skills guys Elway's fallen in love with pre-2018 drafts. 2. This probably also signals that Brock may not be ready for full #3 duties, either, as he's still dinged up. 3. If this is instead of getting a vet QB FA, sign me up. Vet 3rd QB is not how we should be spending our $, or allocating our roster resources. If Keenum goes down, no vet is helping us contend. 4. Roster-wise, Pacman's ability to return punts tells me that McKenzie could be toast on this team - and from a roster perspective, while he's cheap, I'd much rather have a 3rd CB who can return punts occupy a spot than a guy with no WR skills beyond gadget players and such a low IQ (let alone the fumbling issues). Looking like another wasted 2017 pick (and again, 5th rounder never bothered me, more than we spent a Day 2 pick AND a 5th on the same type of player with huge bust potential - and that's what we are seeing with both so far, even with it only being Year 2, given the roster bubble status for both McKenzie & C-Henderson). Cut bait on Lynch, and McKenzie/Henderson by waiving them, and if some go unclaimed, great - practice squad it is. Just don't give up actual assets to waivers for those guys, use Pacman's return abilities to close the book on McKenzie, if we need the roster space for guys like Dylan Thomas & Jeff Holland. 5. My only quibble, and it's more of a philosophical one - Elway said character was #1 priority in the draft and influenced the decisions - and the draft reflects this. This FA signing is based on need, and it completely ignores character - Pacman is not a good dude at all. This isn't even a Q after his extensive history. But he can play. That's fine in a vacuum - but if you are saying character matters that much beforehand...well, this does show, winning matters more. Nothing wrong with that, it's a balance, but please don't use character as a reason to not make moves, either, if you're going to do this. I know some will say he's a minor piece - and that's fair. But you can't really justify character as the main driver to some decisions, and then ignore it for others when necessity forces your hand. Still, philosophical issues aside, all in all, glad 3rd CB was addressed with little risk and no-long term commitment. EDIT: Whoops, saw it's in the TC thread, oh well, figured it deserved a topic on its own lol.
jsthomp2007
I would totally celebrate T--bone Tuesdays at Shotgun Willies with Pacman any day....or, Tuesday
BroncoBruin
Pretty tough to keep 11 DBs. Is this going to cost Dymonte Thomas a roster spot? Can't imagine Langley doesn't make the team, as a second year Day 2 pick.
1234567
Well, looks like Talib doesn't have to worry about not having any dogs on the team lol. Pacman just laid out a guy at the airport a month or so back ?

Can't imagine Langley doesn't make the team, as a second year Day 2 pick. I haven't done the 53-man roster projections, but if we keep 1 fewer WR with McKenzie cut, and we only go 2-QB's, I'd be all for 11 DB's if those 2 moves can make that happen, and still let us keep Lindsay/Holland on the 53-man roster. Dymonte Thomas is more of a hybrid anyways. I think Shamarko Thomas gets cut for sure, so Jewell can get his 47 jersey back lol. The other part about 2018's rule changes is that ST's now emphasize speed and block/tackle ability, because players can't get running starts either way. So we need more DB's on ST's. I think we go with 2 QB's, and don't need a WR-specialist to be a KR (and we put both C-Henderson & McKenzie on waivers, if they clear, then fine, practice squad it is). The new model of good ST play is to be secondary-heavy.
Royal_VT
Lol Mike Klis tweeted something along the lines of this risky signing means Elway believes our roster is close to competing. Is there a Klis-hating Fan Club I can join?

Hopefully we can cut him once we're out of the playoff picture. Klis is the team's mouthpiece, so it's a tough role to have nowadays. Thing is, Elway's got to please the impulsive crowd - at the very least, if this means we cut McKenzie, and we're less likely to get a vet 3rd QB - sign me up. But yeah, the contention part is an illusion - all PR, when hope springs eternal. But it's also Elway's MO to not give up completely on the year - at least this way, it's a minimal cost, and as long as we don't waive a future piece to keep Pacman in the lineup, all good. But if Elway ever says character is the main driver to the decisions they make - let's be real and say winning is what matters more, and character's a nice reason to use as window dressing. I have no problem with that, but using character when explaining passing on other guys, let's just accept that winning matters most. Nothing wrong with that, but better to be upfront. This "roster is close to competing" things he keeps telling himself is robbing him from making decisions that would benefit the team for the future like a QB. I mean, he had one of his buddies shoot up a strip club which paralyzed a dude right? It's not your standard legal issue. champ11
I think drafting guys like Shane Ray and Bradley Roby is a great market inefficiency to take advantage of. But there is a reason why Jones' employer has been the Cincinnati Bengals for like a decade. They were the team that wanted to take advantage of the Jones type of inefficiency of a dude that would be untouchable due to legal issues with a lot of teams. IDK, I make a lot of compromises as an NFL fan and it's just getting old man.
