UofMfan909
I think that the NFL is going to lose a significant chunk of popularity over the next 20 years. I don't think the NBA can 1:1 replace fans moving on looking for a new primary sport. I think that it plus hockey and especially soccer will take more of the market share. Right now football is the obvious #1; not sure that will continue to be the case, but it will at least get a hell of a lot more evenly distributed. the lone star
The roughing the passer rules will kill the NFL.
Fresh Prince
Nba will never overtake the nfl atleast here in USA. Even if nfl loses 25% of its fans in the next 30 years it will still be more than triple what nba is in terms of ratings.
The Hitch
As others have said, because of the 82 game season, no. But also for me, the fact that nba is only really open to a minute fraction of the population (with rare exceptions, those over 6 ft 4) also holds it back. Tetsujin
Baseball, boxing, and horse-racing were the Big 3 in America until the 60's. Things change.

The upside of being a great soccer player is mega due to the fame and fortunes to be made in Europe. Barcelona, London, Rome... some pretty cool cities to live in too.
