The Lions have kicked off a new year by starting a search for a new head coach. The team announced on Monday morning that General Manager Bob Quinn informed Jim Caldwell that has been fired.

I understand that the GM wanted to hire his own coach, but it's a rather ridiculous move...to the Wayne Fontes level of shooting yourself in the foot.  The Pox will remain on the Lions' house for the next 30 years.

That is a rather favorable schedule for the Lions...considering the most difficult games are at home (although we don't know yet how the 49ers will perform).

Matt Patricia, the coach who carries a pencil behind his ear, while carrying a laminated play card...

Hope he delivers more defensive performances like that in our building!

I hope he leads the Lions to victories over the Packers twice yearly while laying down for the Vikings in both their yearly meetings.

The Lions have a hard decision to make on defensive end Ezekiel Ansah. Detroit has not used the franchise tag since 2012 with Cliff Avril, but it’s possible the Lions use it this year on Ansah, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

A $17.5 million commitment to Ansah is a lot of money, especially for a defensive end who had 14 sacks combined the past two seasons. But only seven NFL players had more than Ansah’s 12 sacks last season, and Ansah’s 12 sacks came in 14 games. The Lions also don’t have anybody to replace Ansah if he leaves.

The full slate of teams with genuine interest in cornerback Richard Sherman isn’t known. The Lions, we’re told, were definitely one of them. Per a league source, the Lions was strongly motivated to pursue Sherman, who signed with the 49ers only one day after being cut by the Seahawks.

I know he tore his achilles but I'm glad Sherman stayed in the NFCW.

Matt Patricia was coordinating the defense that didn’t need Malcolm Butler a little over month ago. Now, he’s coaching a team that appears to want Malcolm Butler for the future. According to Mike Giardi of NBC Sports Boston, the Lions are “quite interested” in the Patriots free agent cornerback.

Both are junk.

Well, it's not like they have had any success drafting RBs.
