But he'd be just as good as anyone we've had a LG this year right?

Not when he is injured.

Even so, if we need a backup, wouldn't it be better to see if Danny Isidora develops into something?

That is a consideration for when the Vikings would hypothetically think about it. Isidora looked better than I expected when pushed into action this year.  He still isn't good which isn't surprising for a backup. Lang would be a better backup IMO for 2019. It depends on how much the team wants to weight 2019 quality of backup versus development for 2020. If Isidora is improving reasonably the team might be wise to keep Isidora around.

The NFL is still a couple months away from releasing the full 2019 schedule, but bits and pieces are coming out.

One pice: The traditional Detroit and Dallas Thanksgiving games will be the Bears against the Lions and the Dolphins against the Cowboys, according to Sports Business Daily.

A year ago the Lions released tight end Eric Ebron, tried to trade for tight end Rob Gronkowski, and ended up with almost no production at all from the tight end position. This year they want to get better.

Lions General Manager Bob Quinn said told season-ticket holders that “the tight end position is definitely a priority for us” to upgrade this offseason. “This is a position of need,” Quinn said, via the Detroit Free Press. “We know that.”

Glover Quin said at the end of the 2018 season that he would spend time this offseason thinking about whether he’ll play in 2019 and that he wasn’t sure whether he’d play for someone other than the Lions. As it turns out, Quin will have to answer both of those questions. The Lions announced on Friday that they have released the veteran safety. Quin said farewell to Detroit in an Instagram post shortly before the announcement and the team released a statement thanking him for his “countless contributions” since joining the squad in 2013.

Quin’s future with the team was in some doubt because rookie Tracy Walker began to take some of his playing time over the course of the regular season. The move saves $6.25 million in cap space for 2019.

Kyle Van Noy was traded from the Lions to the Patriots during the 2016 season. New England went to the Super Bowl that season, and after the 2017 season, and after the 2018 season. Van Noy is enjoying himself. Van Noy said on Pardon My Take that by getting traded from Detroit to New England, he felt like he was moving from the pits of the league to the penthouse.

Van Noy:  “I’m gonna repeat what my friend said so I don’t get in trouble. He’s like ‘You went from the toilet bowl, to the Super Bowl.' Then when I got there, it was like, they had a plan for me. Then that plan got bigger with how I played. With that being said, I didn’t know that to begin with because I’d been in Detroit, where I was kind of told ‘We don’t know where to put you.’ And I’m like, ‘Why did you draft me?’ I had my own coach telling me ‘I don’t know where to put you."

Nevin Lawson has started 45 games at cornerback over the last three years for the Lions, but now he’s out. The Lions are cutting Lawson, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Although he was a starter, the decision to cut him is not a big surprise, as it will save the Lions almost $5 million in cap space. Cornerback is a position where the Lions would like to find an upgrade across the field from Darius Slay. Lawson has played his entire NFL career in Detroit, where he was drafted out of Utah State in the fourth round in 2014. Now he’ll hit free agency and see if he can start somewhere else.

Diana Russini of ESPN reports that Danny Amendola is in Detroit and taking a physical with the Lions’ medical staff. If all goes well, Amendola is expected to sign a contract to join the Lions for the 2019 season. Albert Breer of SI.com reports that the deal has a base salary of $4.5 million and could be worth as much as $5.75 million.
