Motor City MoJo: Detroit Lion updates

Recommended Posts

In the Lions’ 20-15 loss to the Steelers, they gained 482 yards of total offense but were limited to just five field goals. The Lions became the first team in NFL history to gain at least 475 yards of offense, not have multiple turnovers, and still score less than 20 points.

The Lions were also just the second team in NFL history to gain 480 yards, hold their opponents to less than 21 points, and lose. And they were just the third team in NFL history to gain more than 480 yards and fail to score a touchdown.

The Lions opened their practice week on Wednesday with right guard T.J. Lang on the field, but he won’t be there on Thursday.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell announced on Thursday morning that Lang has been placed in the concussion protocol. Lang was OK after the Lions beat the Packers on Monday Night Football and on Tuesday, but Caldwell said that he began experiencing symptoms of a concussion during Wednesday’s practice.

The Lions got left tackle Taylor Decker back at practice over a week ago and they said goodbye to a player they acquired in the wake of Decker’s offseason shoulder injury.

The team announced that they have waived tackle Greg Robinson with an injured designation.

"We reached out to Robinson's agent, but he said Robinson was too lazy to comment."  xD  Just kidding, that's my own addition to the article.

Ziggy Ansah‘s back issue continues to be an issue for the Lions. The star defensive end didn’t practice Friday and isn’t expected to play Sunday against the Bears.

That makes two weeks with no activity for Ansah. Lions coach Jim Caldwell declined to elaborate on whether it’s a long-term injury.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Dwight Freeney has been claimed off of waivers by the Lions. The move would give the Lions another player to use rushing the passer, something that Freeney showed he could still do by recording three sacks in four games with the Seahawks.

The Lions not only lost Thursday, they left they game battered, and needing reinforcements. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, safety Tavon Wilson needs shoulder surgery, and is out for the rest of the season.

That's karma for the non-call on the PI.  I didn't wish it for the rest of the season though.

The Lions will be in Tampa to face the Buccaneers next Sunday, but they’re not yet sure if Matthew Stafford will be at quarterback when their offense takes the field.

Stafford left last Sunday’s loss to the Ravens after having his right hand stepped on following an interception and X-rays taken after the game showed no signs of a broken bone. Stafford described having “burning nerve pain” on Sunday while coach Jim Caldwell said on Monday that the quarterback is “just sore,” which is enough to keep him from being certain about Stafford’s status.

The Lions haven’t released official injury designations for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers, but it appears you can pencil quarterback Matthew Stafford into the questionable category. Stafford hurt his right hand last Sunday and didn’t throw in practice on Wednesday before getting some tosses in on Thursday with a couple of his fingers taped up. That’s progress, but it’s not enough for coach Jim Caldwell to say that Stafford will be playing this weekend.

“We’ll see,” Caldwell said.
