Not that it matters since he won't be playing for the first 6 weeks of the season, but still this can't help for his development, especially after spending over half of the season last year in rehab.

So THAT's why Kwesi made the trade! 4D chess!

Lions tight end Shane Zylstra left Monday’s practice with a right leg injury after taking a low hit from teammate Khalil Dorse. It might have ended Zylstra’s season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports the Lions fear Zylstra has a “serious and significant knee injury” that will sideline him for six months. Zylstra will undergo further medical testing, but Rapoport adds that the Lions don’t have a lot of optimism.

The Lions have Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright and James Mitchell at the top of the depth chart at the position.

Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was able to get on the field for Monday’s padded practice, but his return from a hamstring injury hasn’t been a totally smooth one.

Williams showed well as a blocker, but dropped the first pass thrown his way and got into a scuffle with a teammate during an up-and-down day. After missing all of the offseason and 11 games as a rookie because of his recovery from a torn ACL, it’s understandable that the 2022 first-round pick is still finding his way but that process is complicated by the fact that Williams will miss the first six games of the season due to a gambling suspension.

After Monday’s practice, Williams acknowledged the choppy start to his NFL career but said he’s confident the work he’s putting in now is going to pay off down the line:

“Just work. That’s it, work. That’s all it takes is work and I’m going to work to be the best. One day it’s going to come.”

The Lions’ wait for cornerback Emmanuel Moseley to take the practice field will go on a little while longer.

Moseley is coming off of a torn ACL that has kept him from practicing at training camp and the team announced that he’s been placed on the physically unable to perform list on Wednesday. Moseley can come off the list at any point, but moving him to the PUP list keeps open the possibility that he could miss the first six weeks of the regular season.

Right away in Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s general managing career, the Vikings GM raised some eyebrows with his trades.

Many will remember that during the first round of the 2022 Draft, the Vikings opted to trade the 12th overall pick (Jameson Williams) and the 46th overall pick (Zach Pascal) to the Detroit Lions. In exchange, Minnesota grabbed Nos. 32, 34, and 66.

Williams, coming off an ACL surgery during the offseason, was essentially a non-factor for Detroit during his rookie season. He caught just one pass during the season which, of course, was a 41-yard touchdown reception against the Vikings.

Lions fans have been hoping that 2023 will be Williams’ breakout season in the NFL. But first and foremost, the wide receiver was suspended for the first six games of the regular season for his involvement in violating the league’s gambling policy. This means he will be on the sideline for at least 17 of his first 23 NFL games.

On Monday, a report came out that his practices have not been going well. Arye Pulli tweeted a list of happenings from Lions practice involving the second-year receiver:

  • Dropped two passes
  • Struggled in 1 on 1’s
  • Threw a punch at rookie CB Sterling Thomas after he forced an incompletion and started talking to Williams

Overall, these are not great signs for a player who was hailed as a great receiver coming out of the draft. On the flipside, the Vikings haven’t seen much production out of players who came as a direct result of that trade (Lewis Cine, Brian Asamoah). That being said, Asamoah is in the midst of a battle for the starting linebacker spot this season, and Cine seems to be progressing nicely from his leg fracture.
