Matt Wile held for the first three kicks when Bailey was good from 33, 39 and 42 yards. Chad Beebe replaced Wile later in practice for the final three attempts. Bailey was true from 44 and 46 yards before ending his day with a 50-yard attempt. https://www.vikings.com/news/vikings-kirk-cousins-stefon-diggs-connect-game-winning-td?sf217917502=1 I wonder how many were from the right hash... SteelKing728
There was a big emphasis on special teams Tuesday, especially with field goals. Kaare Vedvik attempted nine of them in the session, coming away with five successful attempts. Chad Beebe was the holder for each kick. https://www.vikings.com/news/3-observations-vikings-young-dbs-final-preseason-practice What to make of Vedvik... I wonder if the team will keep three kicking specialists just to save face. Or will they just deal with Vedvik's punting, which hopefully can be a lot better than he showed in his first preseason game with the Vikings. I really want to root for Vedvik since I have immediate family living in his childhood hometown, but I've seen little reason to be excited about him other than the fact he grew up in a place that I regularly visit and I want to see some of that population excited about the Vikings. I want the guy to be just decent so I can buy a Vedvik jersey but he is going to need to show he belongs before I make that investment. Five of nine in practice is not going to cut it. Not sure how you can trust a guy who came up short on a 54 yarder to be your long FG specialist. I don't see a point in needing a kickoff specialist in today's NFL either. Also, his punting hasn't out performed Wile in the least. Edited August 28, 2019 by Vikes_Bolts1228

He’ll be on the roster somehow, whether it’s kicker or punter.

It'd be stupid to keep an inferior player on the roster just because it cost you a 5th rounder. And right now, Vedvik is inferior to Bailey & Wile. A fifth round pick is a lot for a kicker, so they must have thought he was good. Nothing should be able to change your mind within this period of time. And if it can, you’re incompetent. If you can't do your job, you won't be on the team. It's not like he's a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd rounder. Keeping a player who didn't earn his spot just because they spent draft equity on him would be bad business. If he can come into the final pre-season game and have an impressive performance, then maybe it's cause enough to keep him on the roster. But if he's missing 34 yard field goals, coming up short on 54 yarders, going 5 for 9 in practice, and his punting isn't impressive....can't bring him to US Bank Stadium in a week. Why would you trade for a kicker who isn’t better than the one on the roster? It’s ridiculous. Who cares if he made it out of camp. That's what? Two weeks longer than Vedvik would be cut after the last game? Does it matter that much? Does that someone justify the 5th rounder on a kicker that he made it two weeks and cost the team a game that very well kept the team out of the playoffs? Will you be fine if he makes it to week 2 and then the Vikings cut him? And it'll make Spielman look even more incompetent if they keep him on the roster just because he cost a 5th rounder and he proceeds to cost the team a game if he misses a field goal or he leaves too much air under a punt and the Falcons' returner brings it back 65 for 6 because our nearest gunner was 15 yards away when he caught the punt. It's a 5th rounder. Not too big of a deal. Spielman can get that back in his first trade of the 2020 draft. He took a gamble and it's looking like a "L" right now. Maybe he'll correct his stride for the week 4 game and will go 3/3 on FGs and get some good punts. You're over-thinking this too much. If he can't beat out Wile & Bailey, he shouldn't get a roster spot. If he can, he should. Plain & simple. I just can't understand the logic of keeping an inferior player on a roster just because he cost a draft pick. This isn't JV football. SemperFeist
If the Carlson situation taught the organization anything, it should be that patience with young kickers is key. Edited August 28, 2019 by SemperFeist
